  1. Hello, I was granted a CR1 spouse visa during my interview 30th Nov. (it's going to be couriered to me in the next couple days, fingers crossed).

I'm intending to fly as soon as possible (and before Christmas), so do I need to get a ESTA form completed or anything else? I'm trying to make sure absolutely everything is ready to go. Is there any paperwork I need to have sorted other than a ESTA form or instead of?

Also, can anyone tell me about the interview once I arrive in the US? Is it a gruelling and intense interrogation? Will they go through my luggage? I will be taking Christmas presents and don't want them ripped open.

  2. Hi all, I have my interview (CR1) on the 30th (Tues) and will be travelling to London to stay overnight with a friend on the Monday. I've been told you can't take your phone in and I presume that will also include my overnight bag as well.

So do they have a locker service somewhere or a place to store this stuff?

  3. Had my medical last Weds at the Bentinck Mansion surgery.

Was no big deal. I had gone to my GP two weeks prior and ensured I got my MMR (I was one of the generation they didn't do DOB1976) and the Tetanus,Polio,Dip injection. Didn't cost me anything.

Arrived, met the receptionist who some folks claim wasn't very friendly, I found her perfectly fine. (I just smiled and was polite, folks find it difficult to be arsey if you're being charming).

Filled in the 2nd form they need, easy to do.

Jolly chap showed up, was jolly, took me for a chest x-ray and then I waited for about 30 mins before the Doctor came and collected me.

I had to smile as it was the 'highly attractive but surly' female doctor, from the Indian sub continent from her accent, I had read about in this thread.

She does come across as a bit abrupt, however again I remained calm and polite and smiled, she mellowed a fair bit and we were enjoying a light hearted conversation by the end of the exam. I just don't think she does small talk or is interested in being humorous, I know I made a couple of amusing comments and she just didn't seem to quite get them. She commented on my tattoo (which I'd had done 16 years ago and at a reputable artist) and then she commented on my weight at which point I mentioned that I am exercising regularly and in the process of losing weight. She mentioned my blood pressure and I apologised for drinking too much coffee and for being nervous about the exam. She took my blood, professionally and without pain of any sort.

About the blood pressure, she told me to lay off the coffee, I nodded and accepted the advice. Thanked her and shook her hand.

I had a cough and she took a look at my gear, she seemed content it was all there.

    Job done.

I went to the waiting room again, waited about 5 mins, then was called to reception and paid my £200 (now that hurt...)and went on my merry way.

My advice if you get this doctor is to remember:

She isn't your GP, you are not developing a long term professional relationship with her and so she has no personal investment to make with the people she meets.

Don't worry about that, just be friendly, relaxed and professional back, don't bother with too much small talk or trying to crack jokes to lighten the mood, just let her do her job and get on with it.

  4. Well, on the CR1 journey, getting close now and interview is booked for 30th November!!

I've been looking over flights as I want to be back with my bride before Christmas. One way is considerably more expensive than a return ticket... So I was all geared to buy a return ticket when a thought struck me, what if when I arrive the interview guys start onto me about buying a return, could it go against me?

This probably sounds bizarre and far-fetched but after all this time I'd hate to fall at the last on some bizarre technicality.

(I'm looking at booking a flight for the 11th, given the interview is on the 30th, is this too near?)

  5. I married my American wife this year at the beginning of Feb, she returned to the US and submitted the paperwork for permanent residency for me in late March.

We have not yet heard any further than USCIS confirmation of receipt of the initial forms.

My employers have learnt of my intention to leave the country, they have sent me an offer of 3 months pay to resign and are applying very large amounts of pressure on me to take the offer.

This offer is not redundancy and they are keen to not employ that term, for whatever reason.

If I take the offer and leave, then find myself up for interview at the embassy, will it go against me if I am currently status unemployed? I am very concerned this might hamper me being with my wife.

  6. Hello, new to the boards.

My American wife and I were recently (Feb 3rd) married over here in the UK. She has returned to the States and we've completed and submitted the I-130, now waiting for it to be processed by USCIS and transferred to NVC (which should be in the next couple of weeks by the forum updates we're reading).

I've been reading this http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/LingChe_NVC_ShortCut and found it very useful. I've just got to get my photos signed off to send off for a police cert. and then we'll have all the info ready for the next stages.

    Questions:

    1. How many copies of Birth Certificates should I apply to the Registrar for? I have 1 certified copy of an entry so far and if I am asking for more of them, don't want to keep doing it.

Similar with wedding cert, how many copies from the Registrar?

    2. How long should I leave it before going for a medical? Is it worth me going to my GP first and getting up to date immunisations done?

    3. Bank Loans, I have a loan with the Bank (Lloyds) that I am paying back over months, does anyone have experience with this? Will the bank allow me to continue payment from overseas?

    4. I have a computer I want to bring over with me, my wife and I skype and therefore I'd like to leave bringing it to the latest I can, what's the best way to send it? Mail it? Also a large box full of books, same question.

Many thanks to anyone who can offer assistance/advice.
