About the wait for interview date. The bangkok embassy has a backlog they say. The official statement is that it will take them 8 to 10 weeks to schedule an interview. I'm waiting for a little over 4 weeks myself now.
Thanks Jordi. FWIW, did you notice how last month's schedule was twice as large as this month's?
Regards.

Not to worry about CC debt; I have a lot but my income & assets offset that.
I don't think a credit check is part of the process.
I would contact the consulate about the 2nd question; be advised that BKK
would most likely have an unrest-related backlog that wasn't present last
October when we got packet4 in about 2 days. The backlog is probably not
focused on the packet4 returns but in other areas that demand manpower
on the part of the consulate staff.
I think that because they are doing other things they may be slacking off
on the packet4 returns (must be a huge backlog in interviews).
5 weeks does seem like a lot for that.
Hello, fellow New Yawker. I was unclear about the debt. Yes, I have a bit but my fiancee is thinking that they might hold it against her that she has some credit card debt. So, what do you say ThongD, can I tell her that she can rest assured?

Recent cases in BKK have taken longer than before because of the backlog due to events in the past few months. Your timeline isnt unusual at this point. I think there is still a link on the embassy web site where they display upcoming interview dates. Find it & use your case number to see if yours is schedualed. When it is you can then request a different date but will be subject to the existing schedual at that time.
Additionaly your fiance can buy a special pin number at the post office that will allow her X number of calls to a direct line inside the embassy. Its about 500 baht.
In my case for example we never recieved a P 3. The P 4 arrived at my address in Thailand after I was in the USA!
Yes, Ning. Thanks for your reply. Sure, we've noticed the upcoming-interview-dates pdf on the web site and to our dismay there are only 5 pages worth of cases for August versus 10 for July. Hmm, not enough manpower, resources, to handle as many interviews this month?

No scrutiny to overseas fiance(e) credit situation

Jon, Svetlana, thanks for your response. Couldn't be more cut and dried than that!

re: packet 3/interview date/packet 4 - call DOS Hotline (# in my profile), inquire for case status.
D, I'll put your advice to good use, thanks. Can I actually REQUEST that a specific date be set up for my fiancee to go to the embassy?

Hey Neilsy!
As long as your SO has enough efficient income right now to sponsor you on the Affidavit of Support I wouldn't worry!
Be, thank for your response. I'm petioning for my fiancee in the Land of Smiles. Looks like Payxibka is assuring me that I have no concerns in that regard.

Hello again, fellow filers. I'd love to allay fears that my dear Ann has right now. Do any of you good people have knowledge as to how much scrutiny is paid to outstanding credit card debt on the part of our overseas fiancee? Maybe a couple of grand, tops. Thanks for any light you can shed.
Separately, it's been 5 weeks now since Packet 3's been sent back and received. Should anything be read in, it seeming like quite a bit of time now for her to receive her Packet 4.

Fellow filers, oopsy on the ambiguity of my query. The debt (less than $2000) is on the part of my Thai fiancee, not myself. To what extent should she lose sleeping harping on this (non-?)issue?
-
Generally, only publicly enforceable debts would be considered, like tax liens or unpaid court ordered child support. Private debts, like credit cards, would not be considered. They don't run a credit check on the petitioner. Some consulates do pull a Lexis Nexis report on the petitioner for information on employment and prior residences, and that report may contain credit information if a credit report was recently requested by an employer, landlord, or insurance company. In other words, it's possible they may find out about some private debts (though not very likely), but there is no provision in either law or Department of State policy that requires or allows them to consider it.
For your other question, send an email to the consulate asking for confirmation that they received the response to packet 3 and whether they've scheduled an interview.
Thank you JVP for your extensive and, it seems like, sage advice! Ahh, but the debt is on the part of my fiancee. How much sleep should she lose thinking that this is cause for concern?
Continued happiness to you.

To be honest, I don't know for sure. However, I am compiling my packet with the I-134 and all of my financial information and nowhere does it ask about credit card debt, so, I'm assuming it doesn't matter.
Thank you MJ for your response. May your hopes turn in to reality. You know, I should have proofread for ambiguity! I'm concerned on the part of my Thai fiancee who has some small credi card debt. To what extent, if at all, is that looked at as a negative, I'm wondering. All the best to you.

And it is even more confusing. Yes, the link to the Bangkok Embassy Packet 3 does say basically that they want all forms sent back.
When I emailed the BKK Embasssy, the email reply was different. They want the original of DS-2001, DS-230 Part 1 and COPIES of all other forms and documents so that they know you have them prepared. Then bring the originals of all the forms and documents to the interview to be submitted. Their email says do not send any other originals of forms or documents as they can be lost in the mail.
Some of the form numbers mentioned by L&V are probably consulate specific. Bangkok does not have the DS-1076 but they do use a DS-2001.
Good luck
Thanks for getting back, Ning. Nice to meet you Audy_Rob. Just, got off the phone, sorry, Skype, with Ann and we worked out a bit of a battle plan. I had to remind her of that good ol American superstition of crossing one's fingers. So if all goes well, A_R, you should be getting word quite soon, yes? It does seems like what your response was was accurate but can't she send in originals of the 156, 156k and 157 sinice they're generated off of the website? Also, I can't recall but Ann seems to recall that her original birth certificate was sent in with the I-129f 4 and a half months ago, in which case she would only have a copy on hand to send off. It does say, guys, on page 3 what should be sent in copy form then on page 4 it mentions what originals should be sent. The whole thing is just so awkawardly written - yes I did see on some old Packet 3 link, maybe it is what you recall seeing Ning, where it was in both English and Thai that allthat need be sent back is the checklist itself and the DS=230. Speaking of the checklist, do those little boxes actually need to be checked off? (Reminds me of another expression that I taught my finacee - To be on the safe side.)
Rad tree sawatdee guys and gals.

Part of the P 3 is a checklist. On the checklist they indicate which documents are brought to the interview. Follow the procedure for the best result. You can download the P 3 instructions & forms to see what she got & must do. You must sign the 134 & provide some info as well that she will take along.
Thank you Ning. Than you L&V. According to the Packet 3 web site http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/k_packet3.html, she will need to include my Affidavit of Support as part of the package returned. Am I reading this right? I was under an impression that it simply needs to be brought along to the interview. I guess I need to get cracking on my end. Thanks again.

Hello everybody. Nice to meet you all. Neil from Forest Hills, New York. My finacee just got the scare of her life. After receiving our NOA2 on April 27th, the post man arrived at her home yesterday to hand her a letter. It was quite thin in size so she immediately thought the worst - that it could not be a packet of forms so therefore it must be some sort of denial letter!! Well, upon opening it and calling me we concluded that this must be "Packet" 3. So, off to the next step - getting the forms back to the embassy.
Question for you all, if I may, does the I-134, her birth certificate (translated into English from Thai), her name change certificate, and police certificate need to be sent back along with the downloaded 156, 156K, and 157 and DS-230 Part 1? Or do they need to be brought with her to the interview?
Thanks for any light you can shed.
