  1. I was denied entry at POE once, too, and it took us over nine months to get our NOA2! I also had to go to the consulate once before the interview took place to have my fingerprints taken.

When I was denied entry, they also took my fingerprints and I'm fairly certain that's why we had a hit and the background check took forever! Since neither of us ever had trouble with the law I can't imagine what else it could have been.

Other than that, it had no negative impact on our visa process. Just be honest and you should be fine!

    Good luck!

  2. It's a touchy subject, I agree, but I think it depends on I) how you approach the topic with your partner and II) what happened before in your life.

It's not that crucial if you split up in your mid-twenties (financially, I mean), no big deal to get back on your feet after a divorce (again, only financially speaking), but as the OP said, what if you're in your late fourties, worked hard for your money and just can't make up for the financial loss any more? In a good relationship, I think this can be discussed without hard feelings coming up! (just my opinion, of course)

We discussed it and I never felt like my soon-to-be-husband  didn't trust me or planned on the end of our relationship already! Maybe it's a cultural thing, also, but a fair agreement protects both sides, and also takes the fact into consideration that the non-USC gave up life as he/she knew it and moved to the other side of the world to be with the person we love.

  3. Hello everybody!

I need advice on this: We are putting our paperwork for AOS together, and I had to realize that the A-number on our approval notice I-797C and the A-number printed on my K1 visa differ by one digit! (it's a 9 on the K1 and a 5 on the I-797C). On the I-94 the immigration officer put the number as on the I-797C!

Now which A-number do I put on the forms for AOS, or should I call USCIS about this before I hand in my papers? I would like to fix it before it gets one big huge mess...

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks

  4. I would like to call my sister, who lives in Shanghai, at least once per week.

So here is my question for those out there with a fiance(e), spouse, sweetheart, whatsoever in China: Which is the cheapest way to call?

Any advice would be appreciated (also by my fiance, who pays the phone bill at the moment :P )

  5. Make sure you can get it licensed in the US first!!!

My fiance bought a KTM 640 Adventure in Germany while I was still living there, and we were already in the process of shipping it when he found out he could not get it licensed here in WI!

Very frustrating, I had to sell it again and we lost quite a bit of money doing it in a hurry!

Sorry, I have no advice about shipping since we never got that far...

  6. Same here, we were told that our case has been moved into security checks about 5 months after we had filed, and it took another four months to get them done and finally have it approved!

I don't think it will really take another six months for you! Between 3 and 4 months seem to be more realistic! That was the time frame others were telling us about during that time, too. sjoefl01 is correct about that!

Anyway, our congressman here kept sending lettes to NSC every two or three weeks, and called them, also, to inquire about the status. Sorry to hear your congresswoman is not helping you much.

Hang in there, it can't be that much longer!

  7. During googling the topic I found conflicting information about whether I need a SSN to apply for a marriage license in Wisconsin or not...

I went to the SSA (in Eau Claire) last week, but was not in the system yet then (I entered on January 27th) so I plan on going there again this week. We are planning on getting married middle of March.

Anybody out there from WI who can help me with this? Would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Carla

  8. It took us over 9 months to get the NOA 2, and I really wasted that time with panicking instead of enjoying being with my family and friends!

Considering how fast and smooth everything went for us once we were out of NSC, I should have spent much less time worrying... but I guess this advice is wasted on everybody out there still waiting for NOA2...

Other than that, no complaints or regrets!

I shipped only really personal stuff, to have a little bit of "home" in my new home. Since my soon-to-be-husband has a complete household already, I didn't really need anything practical. I just packed my dishes (which I got from my Grandma) and some clothes and lots and lots of books (in German! :P ). We'll see what I'll miss in a few months....
