  1. Anything over a few days, and you probably have been flagged for additional processing at the NVS. I am in the same situation with them. It seems to be a more in-depth background check, but there is no way to know for sure. You have to call and talk to a real person to find out if your in the "additional processing" status, since their automated system does not report on 'K' visas. They won't tell you anything more though. After waiting for the NOA2, now we have to wait another 2-5 weeks for the NVS. It's really frustrating.

Yeah, are you talking to a live person or just the automated system? My file was sent to the Embassy in like 21 days or something but, the whole time the automated system said that NVC hadn't received my case. It wasn't intil I talked to an operator on like July 10th the operator was like yes sir, we received your file on June 29th and are processing it. So, if I had never called I would have never known. My case was shipped to the Embassy on the 19th. I still haven't received anything in the mail or email about it being sent. Thank god I called. I even asked to speak to a supervisor just incase. it was sent the following day after I talked to a supervisor. I just told the supervisor hey, you operator can't tell me anything about why my case is taking over 20 days. The sup didnt give me any more info than the operator but, it shipped the next day after that.

It's been 20 days since I received my NOA2 and I am still waiting for NVC to receive my file from USCIS :(

  2. Does anyone know if NVC maybe send the package to the embassies on one day but, may only updat there systems on another day? My status changed on 19 July according to NVC. Thats the day the operator said the system was showing the case has been mailed. She didn't exactly say it had been mailed on that day. On the DHL tracking website the only thing shipped to Malawi was on July 11th, not the 19th and I haven't seen anything on their website for Malawi after that. Only for the 12th. If so, how long does it take the embassy to process it? if not, then why do I not see it on DHL?

  3. Yep, everyone here is spot on. My fiance is from SA and we met in Uganda, then we traveled to Malawi and that is where we have been dealing with the embassy and our petition is being sent. The hard part for us has been getting the Police report from SA, no one answers the phones numbers at the Police Station in Pretoria. We had a friend send it in for us and they are trying to help but, so far not so good. Especially since we sent it during the World Cup. So, I would definately send tht in as early as possible. They say 21 days till you get it back but we are way past that now and nothing heard. Don't know if you have been back to SA lately but, supposedly its getting pretty bad there as far as the race thing. That's what we've heard anyway and Brenda hasn't been back there for a year now. So, good luck and hope this helps!

  4. This is a very common question. Do some reading in the VJ Wiki (http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Travel_To_The_US_While_Visa_Process_Is_Pending) as well as the K1 forum to determine how you will proceed.

My fiance was able to come and visit the U.S. It seems to all depend on the Consular. We were both able to speak with him, explain what we wanted to do, and gave our word not to marry and try to loophole the system while she was here. The Consular heard us out and said he believed we wouldn't try anything funny and that he believed my fiance wouldn't attempt to live/stay in the U.S. as an illegal. She just looked him in the eye and said, dude, my family is here, everyone I know is here, and I only want to go so I can be with this man and see if we even still would feel the same living in the U.S. She told him, hey, if I don't like it there, even being with him, I am definately coming back. Why would I want to live illegally, on the run, unable to work, unable to drive, etc etc. So, it seems like if you can prove to the Consular you are not just some poor foreigner trying to make it to the States to run from a ####### life then, they have the power to say yes. One thing I will say, if you say you are only going for 90 days then only stay for 90 days. We asked for 90 days, received a 6 month stamp from immigration at the airport in D.C. and, when we returned to Malawi the Consular was unhappy that we stayed longer than what we said we would. He said we went against our word for the 90 days and should have called him. It seemed strange to me that he was upset since we/she did go back but, he said comunication was key. I, the petitioner, had to explain that I didn't realize sticking to the 90 days even though immigration gave us 6 months was such a big deal. I had to apologize and schmooze to get back on his good side. Right now we are hoping it doesn't hurt or come back to haunt us when she goes for the interview. Anyway, thats my story lol.....let me know if you have more questions....

  5. Check dhl site. I saw a package being shipped out of NVC office to Malawi on July 7th.

I suggest you call the consulate on Monday to verify.

Here is how you can find out.

    1. go to http://www.dhl.com/en/express/tracking/shippers_reference.html

    2. In Shipper´s Reference type "EXP 06 JUL 2010A" (without ")

    3. Date range for shipment - From 06/07/2010 Date range for shipment - To 10/07/2010

    4. Shipment Destination Malawi.

    Good luck.

Called today, it wasn't mine. Thanks for the heads up though on how to watch for it!

  7. Thanks everyone! I really hope all of you receive your approvals soon! The waiting game is so hard to play. I was physically with Brenda every day for 1 yr and 3 months. For the first time in my life I have felt real and true love and these last 71 days were extremely difficult! My grey hair count has doubled! I called Brenda in Malawi and they are 6 hrs ahead and she was asleep, don't think she fully grasped what I was saying lol. Now for wait part two, USEMB Malawi is small and not very busy so I'm hoping everything moves quickly from here. We have been struggling to get the police certificates from Uganda and South Africa. TIA (This Is Africa)! I guess from here I need to send her my financial paperwork and affidavit of support. I am asuming a scanned copy is ok. Any tips out there? I've also read some things about smoking pot and that even mentioning you smoked back in high school can hender things (which is crazy cus that was like 15 yrs ago). Any suggestions? Anything else I should be aware of after receiving NOA2?

  8. We didn't do anything fancy with our petition either. Everything was typed only because we thought that perhaps someone wouldn't be able to read the handwriting. :) then signed our names as we went through each item. My fiance stuck all documents in to a folder, in order and sent it off.

That makes me feel alittle better. Thanks for the response!Seeing you other April filers getting your NOA2's just adds to the mixture of emotions lol. Oh the ups and downs, gonna pour myself another lonely stiff one lol.

  9. Hello everyone, just found this forum lol. Our NOA1 was filed April 15th. After being physically together for over a year, I'm dying here in the states alone. Hope everything moves smooth and quickly. The only thing we have been struggling with right now is getting the police certificates. Africa can be a pain in "A" sometimes. My fiancee is from South Africa, we met while she was staying in Uganda for awhile helping her mother run her business. Now she has been working in Malawi. So, trying to get police certificates from SA, Uganda, and Malawi, ugh!!!! Wish our Consulars would except INTERPOL reports, they are easy to get.

  10. Hello all! Have a question with regards to K1 Visa police cerifications. Because Africa is Africa, we are having some trouble getting the certifications completed in the countries my Fiance has lived in in the past (Uganda and South Africa). The easiest way would be through Interpol in Malawi which is where she is now. Will the US Embassies except Interpol police checks vs. the local police check? Thanks in advance for your time!!

  11. Police Records

Police certificates may be obtained by writing to the Director of CID, P.O. Box 2973, Kampala. Requests must contain correspondence explaining the need for the certificate, fingerprints taken at a police station, and photocopies of pages 1-5 and 61 of the passport. It takes approximately two weeks to obtain the certificate. Fee: Ush 50,000.
