  1. There was someone on here who used Ohip and ended up with a big bill later. Once you become a US resident it's no longer available. We have members who still work in Canada and they can't use it, there is no wiggle room.

Thanks Ontarkie... I was hoping to hear some of these first hand experiences!

  2. Directing to a website versus first hand experience are very different things ...

But again, I do appreciate the assistance.

I was hoping to maybe hear from someone who may have had success with accomplishing OHIP whilst living PR in the US. It's nothing personal Montreal/Boston/Boiler

  3. hey it's cool... Relax.. I'm not gonna do anything stupid. Just asking questions to explore options. There are also exceptions for longer absences ..

    http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/longer_absences.aspx

and obviously calling them for answers is going to be most accurate. Was just wondering if any one had first hand experience with this vs educated guesses..

    Thanks for the replies tho!

  4. I guess my best bet is to call Ontario Health services to see what my options are... I'm not moving back to Canada but if I could become eligible again after spending 3 consecutive months there , I may be open to that.

Was just wondering if any Canucks have experienced this... :)

  5. I'm curious- I'm a Canadian citizen but now PR in the US. I left Canada in Jan 2010... would I still be eligible for OHIP in Ontario? I really miss my doctors and level of health care back home and would be willing to travel home ( to Canada) to see my doctors for general check ups... does anyone have any experience with this?

My family (parents/siblings) still reside in Canada so I have a family home there... if that has any bearing...

    Thanks!

  6. This is such good news-SO happy for my fellow timeline sister! Congrats-and have a pint of brew for me when you go home :)

Yeah! Thanks! Hope you will get yours soon too!!! And I will definitely have a drink for the both of us!

I posted this question elsewhere on visajourney. I am told that they will not stamp your passport as long as you have the automatic 1 year extension letter. If you are pass that date (i.e. 3 years from when you were considered a green card holder) then I would imagine you'll get the stamp on your passport without any problem. We are traveling in the second week of May and I am also hoping beyond hope that we get the GC.

    KP

    :help:

I dont understand this.. so... does this mean that we can travel with our 1 year extension letter (so long as it's still within the 1 year) as we wait for our 10yr CG to be produced and mailed out?

    Thanks for clarifying!

  7. Awesome!!! Got my "congratulations approved" letter in the mail yesterday! :). When I had checked the status of my application the other month, my case could not be found. I was expecting to be in limbo for awhile so this was an amazing surprise!

So question- if I travel out of country over the next month - will I require my new GC? Or can I travel using my old GC and the NOA1 letter? Advice is appreciated before I book my flight!!!

Hooray!.. and congrats to everyone this far!

  8. Silk- is that a serious question? Wow! Way to generalize and stereotype ... Yes, you are correct.. All Texans are racists. Segregation is still in place. There are no civil liberties. Being of visible ethnic descent myself, I experience racism everyday, but the irony is, now that I live in TX I am a full blown racist myself.. Pretty sure my husband married me so that I could be an indentured slave.

Wyld- not sure why I was given a Temp DL.. No difference to me so long as I can operate a vehicle :)

  9. Hey y'all - I am a September 2012 ROC filer and I noticed in the Sept Filers thread, there was discussion about drivers license expiring before ROC is processed.

Here in TX, I was issued a Temporary "Visitor" Drivers License. When I first received it 2+ years ago, they said I wont be issued a permanent license until I have citizenship.

Well, on my license I have an expiration date of 12/7/2017 but my "Temporary Visitor Status expiration" on my license is 12/7/2012 (same date as my GC expiration).

Can I use my NOA to renew my license? Do I even need to renew my license since there is also an expiration date of 12/7/2017? Do I need to wait until 12/7/12 or thereafter to renew my license?

I'm not sure what to do

packet received on 9/20/12 at 14:03 at VT location

When I go onto USCIS website and check my case status by entering the 13 digit receipt number, it says:

Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

  12. cheers.. thank you Singh82!! I did not make copies of bank statements, but I have a copy of the application from the bank that we completed when opening the account. With my AOS packet I had sent a letter from our bank. I did not want to be redundant. Anyhow, the application is what the bank processed and has on file, and it shows, our name, our address and the types of accounts we have as well as account numbers. I hope this will do...

  13. Hi September ROC filers! So I am getting set to mail our packet out. Window for ROC opened on Sept 7th but I just want to make sure I have everything in order before sending it off. I would really appreciate everyone's feedback.. will you please let me know if you think I have sufficient evidence???

    Included in my packet:

    Completed form I-751

Check for $590 (our checks are joint account and has both our names)

Copy of my permanent residence card front and back

Copy of our home mortgage refinance with both our names and signatures

Copy of greeting card sent to us from our mortgage broker

Copy of Xmas card sent to us from an old neighbor of mine in Canada

Copy of Medical Insurance with my hubby as member and I am spouse/dependent

Copy of our car insurance with both names

Copy of 2010 Income Tax (we don't have 2011 done yet)

    Copy of Joint bank info

Copy of our Joint phone bill

2 Affidavits (not notarized) but the letters are missing details of DOB and place of birth and I feel bad asking our friends to write them out and sign them again

Copies of travel itineraries of trips we have taken together

Pics - a whole whack of photos from various trips and family functions including hubby, my stepdaughter and me and our dogs!

Does this seem sufficient? Or do I need more? And I have only given 1 copy of each item (ie/ not a stack of car insurance copies from various months, not a stack of Xmas card, only 1 copy of a phone bill .. not various months.. etc..)

Thanks all.. I look forward to your replies!

Anyone? Comments? Suggestions? I would love to hear from some of you.. fellow Canadians? :help:
