  1. got it. How to apply for a driver license if you are over 18

    If you are a visitor in California over 18 and have a valid driver license from your home state or country, you may drive in this state without getting a California driver license as long as your home state license remains valid.

    If you become a California resident, you must get a California driver license within 10 days. Residency is established by voting in a California election, paying resident tuition, filing for a homeowner’s property tax exemption, or any other privilege or benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents.

    To apply for an original driver license if you are over 18, you will need to do the following:

    * Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service)

    * Complete application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. Copies will not be accepted.)

    * Give a thumb print

    * Have your picture taken

    * Provide your social security number. It will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office.

    * Verify your birth date and legal presence If your current name no longer matches the name on your birth data/legal presence document, see “True Full Name” and “How to Change Your Name” for more information.

    * Provide your true full name

    * Pay the application fee

    * Pass a vision exam

    * Pass a traffic laws and sign test. There are 36 questions on the test. You have three chances to pass.(Sample Test)

    Note: To allow you sufficient time for testing DMV will not be administering written or audio exams after 4:30 p.m.

    You will then be issued a permit if you have never been licensed before. When you practice, you must have an accompanying adult who is 18 years of age or older, with a valid California license. This person must be close enough to you to take control of the vehicle if necessary. It is illegal for you to drive alone.

    If you have a license from another country, you will be required to take a driving test. If you have a license from another state, the driving test can be waived.

    To take your driving test, you will need to:

    * Make a driving test Appointment(s) . (Driving tests are not given without an appointment.) You may also call 1-800-777-0133 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, to make a driving test appointment.

    * Provide proof of financial responsibility

  2. Hi Guys,

    So far everything went really smoothly after POE on 12/22/10 at LAX we received SSN in less than 2 weeks and green card arrived few days later so kudos to Homeland Security. The California DMV is completely different story. We waited for hours to be told that her IR visa is expired then another hour to clarify that is not and after apologizing they misspelled her name on application.

    We were told that since she has a valid drivers license in Philippines , she only has to take written test and vision exam and pay $31 and wait for the license. then 10 min later we were told that she actually also need to take driving test exam. Some friend told me that they just took their out of state license and were issued a new one without any tests, so i am totally confused and after so many mistakes that happened in only two experiences at DMV i just cant trust anything they say.

    Anybody knows how to proceed? I would appreciate your help.. Thank you!

  4. The thing is she has a blue and green certificate with the seal. she took it in 2007 when she applied for passport and I think was also requirement for us to get married.

    so we have the blue and the green certificate issued in 2007 but we can not recall any stickers in passport? is just a matter of newer format or is something we need to aquire?

  5. Hi,

    We have the sposal visa in hand and we booked the ticket. According to my wife she took the CFO seminar when she applied for passport. Is it true that is required for leaving the country and one can not leave the country without it? does anyone know how certificate looks like? we would love to make sure she has the right one.

  6. So, we had the interview on dec 6th 2010, and we are waiting patiently :blink: for the visa... The CO told my wife that her "tracking" number for the visa is her casenumber, BUT what he failed to tell us was WHERE we can go to track it.. 2go customer service isnt very helpful. Anyone have an idea of how to track the Visa .. ?

    Hi,

    We had interview on 12/9 in manila and the same thing. 2go made her fill out the form and no tracking number was assigned, were just told to expect visa in a week or so. please let me know what happens,

    thanks,

    Damian

  7. Hello VJ community , I hope you guys are all doing well and your petitions are approved already or at least about to;) We went trough the NVC process relatively smoothly and interview for IR5 is scheduled for 12/9 at manila consulate.

    My wife went ahead and undergo the medical exam a week ago and passed it. The only thing, she did not have the immunization done, because i was visiting her last month and they advised her not to take the immunization in case of pregnancy. I am wondering if immunization is a must requirement to obtain visa or it can be done in US. Immunization costs are not an issue.

    My second question. According to the appointment letter, It seems that consulate have pretty much all of the documents that they need and nothing except the appointment letter seems to be required. Should we really have just what is required here?

    I was under impression that we have to bring as many evidence as possible and we just don't want to leave anything to coincidence and bring to interview as much paper backup as possible. I am counting days and I just cant afford something goes wrong for an obscure reason.

    below is an excerpt from the appointment letter. I wish everybody a very happy thanksgiving and speedy visa approvals!

  8. update: we received the bar coded DS 3032 form choice of agent and address ( ACL and PAOSF I-130 universal). I am reading on Loto's guide that you can send an e-mail format to NVC and that many have success with it. since will not necessarily suffice, should we FedEx a paper backup form after we sent an email from my wifes address?

    will double form DS 2032 confused them? I already submitted 88 dollar fee today and says is pending. god bless!

    loto hope your NOA2 comes soon your guide is great!

  9. newbie: my case was approved two weeks ago. i called few times and tonight they added case # to automated voice system. I called today and gave them mine and my wife's emails.

    It is very hard to get through the busy signal but if you use google voice you can redial every 2 secs and it never takes longer than 1-2 minutes

    get to automated voice or live agent

    best,

    Damian

  10. Thank you Darnell, Great Info!

    I keep calling NVC and is says all lines are busy due to large volume of calls. please wait for the next available line to get into AVS and then i get disconnected. ah well. it is 4 am right now on the east coast. maybe the system is down somehow. ill keep calling. i keep buzing them w my bluetooth. Ill get to them sooner or later.

  11. Newbie::))

    I called NVC this morning, got like 20 busy attempts then somehow got through, and asked same question you did: i was told that they receveived my file just recently and that i have to wait 6-8 weeks for the instructions to be mailed to me. seems like a lot of new stuff arrived since last night to NVC or they just say whatever.. I also emailed them to the famous NVCinquiry email, but no response yet.

    I will follow your advice Darnell and keep calling both NVC and DOS untill i get the case # . I have I -864EZ ready and filled out, 3 years of tax transcripts W-2s employment letter and and 6 latest paystubs. gotta be enough.

    tomorrow morning I will call again.

  12. thank you guys!

    it wasn't really a brilliant plant, i really had no plan i was just desperate. if anybody had a plan then it was the immigration officer i was caught by a complete surprise. i had nothing with me no time to recollect my thoughts and if had something to hide they would probably catch me.

    i find quite interesting that all of my interviewers in my immigration process were actually immigrants, they can probably smell the rat easier than anyone else at the same time they have the compassion to understand your hardship

    i appreciate all of your help, i am convinced that this country and its economy is losing absolutely nothing letting us in and help us develop in a a healthy environment build a strong family around us and contribute to this country at our best. it is our interest in the end anyway.

    goood luck and thank you! i will keep you posted about the further development. if I can be of any help to any of you please let me know, I am still figuring out how this forum works.

    best,

    Damian

  13. Hi Everybody:

    just to update you on my case. My case was transferred to SF Valley regional office and as soon as i got the letter from them i book an info pass online to go downtown and find out whats going on and when will be the interview. encouraged by Loto i shook off the unesiness and birocracy fobia and just went there by myself. as i arrived they made me wait few hours in room 101 and was watching cnn and play w my iphone. so they call me to the window around noon and tell me what alredy states the letter ive got. i tell them ill be leaving the country and i dont want to miss my interview and been waiting and so on..

    so they make a phone call and lady says you want to upstairs now? i say sure why not. i want another 2 hours there and was alredy afternoon had to call work to take whole day off. then an officer comes out and i go in and gee raise the hard swear tell nothing but truth and i was in the middle of interview..

    was not pleasant in any way. many questions dated like years ago go and forth some things i could even remember anymore clearly. why it was quite intense and exhausting they didn't really cross any lines and be insulting in anyway. the problem was apparently that i got married to quckly after the divorce was told at the end and my I-1330 got approved. ill never forget that day. was almost 4pm, didnt eat the whole day was sent home in the mid of the day to get more evidence etc..

    anyway, case was sent to NVC god bless. i am traveling to phils on 10/08 hope i can finish NVC part by then. shouldnt be a problem we have the original docs and i have a job taxes are paid.

    good luck to everyone of you, especially to LOTO!
