There is no law against coming right back. My friend of Brazil came 6 months, left christmas, returned after 1 week and stayed 6 months, extended for 6 months (18 months total, less the 1 week at xmas), went back for 3 months, now here again. If they let you in, you are good to go...
Thanks for sharing your experience. It's been amazing how many varied responses we can get for the same question. I'd heard from many in the past that you could pretty much step out of the USA for a smoke break, then pop right back in. And tonight I've heard others say you probably have to stay out of the country longer than you visited the country. Squishy guidelines make me nervous.

You wouldn't find travel info on the USCIS site. It would be on the DOS travel site or on the US embassy website for your country.
Thanks, Inky. I will now begin searching the DOS and USA Embassy sites.

Rule of thumb is to stay out at least as long as you were in.
Thanks. I couldn't find any rules of thumb on the USCIS site. I am hoping somebody knows where the actual rules are listed on the USCIS site, because my search there turned up nil/nada/zippy.

Tourist visa, valid for 10 years
Enter USA from Europe
Stay in USA for 6 months
Granted extension for another 6 months
Return to Europe before extension stay ends
? How long before re-entry on tourist visa is permitted ?
Any help finding this info is appreciated (by me) and you have my pre-thanks.

At least a year.
Renewing could be interesting.
Her visa is good for 10 years, so is "renewing" the right word? And "at least one year"...sources?
Thanks!

We got the extension I539 approval last week, so she can stay another 6 months. Glad we didn't try the Mexico-Border-Hop.
Now we wonder how long she will need to stay out of North America before she can return, since her Visa is good for 10 years. Couldn't find that info on the USCIS site.

We have verified that she can enter Mexico without requiring anything more than her Romanian passport. When she returns into the USA after eating a few enchiladas in Mexico, she still has some days left before her Tourist Visa 6-month stay period is over. Her Tourist Visa is good for 10 years.
Would she be denied re-entry into the USA?
When she re-enters, does she get another 6 months in the USA?
If not, how long does she need to sit and drink tequila in Mexico before she can re-enter and get another 6 months?
Anybody know where the rules are on this (how long before you can re-enter?) on the USCIS page? I can't find it.
We're not trying to make her an illegal immigrant--we're just trying to buy a little more time before we can arrange a suitable living/healthcare situation for her back in Romania, because she is currently experiencing very bad health. If we boot her back to Bucharest now, my wife would have to return just to care for her.

I failed to mention that her visa is good for 10 years. Does this make any difference? It's not really an extension, I don't think.

Ok so what does it say?
I'd copy/paste it if I could, but the website doesn't allow me to copy text. There's a lot on the page and I'm not going to type it all here. I just did a Google search for "Tourist visa" & Extension, and it was the first or second hit

Strange. When I post the link, part of the link shows as "removed"

Thanks for all the speedy replies. I also found more clarification here:

My Romanian wife immigrated here last September with a CR-1 and she brought her mother, who has a tourist visa. Her mother can stay in the USA for 6 months before she has to leave the country. It has been our understanding that all her mother has to do is leave the USA and then she can come right back in. We were thinking of traveling to Arizona, entering Mexico, and then coming back in. Is this a problem, a Romanian citizen with a U.S. tourist visa, entering Mexico only to come right back into the country? Are there preparations we need to take before crossing into Mexico (and will Mexico even allow her into the country?).
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

My wife entered the USA on Sept 6 without any problems other than a delay at Chicago O'Hare. Her first order of business has been to clean/organize our home the way SHE likes. I thought she was supposed to get her green card in a few days, but they told her at POE that it would be about 2 or 3 months?

Hey all!
I MADE IT!!
POE last Wednesday through LAX - was pretty straight forwrd and easy. I was actually the only person in the 'New Immigrant' line at 10.30am - that's gotta be a first lol!
Anyway, I am home now and settling in. Hasn't quite sunk in yet that I don't have to leave anytime soon! Would have been nice though if Texas hadn't turned up the heat on the poor girl coming from winter in Australia lol! It was 107 here this past weekend! Thank god for air-con!!
Anyway - hope everyone else is well!

I am the petitioner for our case, and my wife's visa was approved at the consulate. I have since moved to a new address. How and who do I inform about her future U.S. mailing address so that she will receive her Social Security card & Green Card at the correct address?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Counting the days, for sure.

POE Aug 5 5h20pm : The funniest moment of the entire process, it took 5 minutes to have the passports stamped, the 4 IO were all so funny, we laughed a lot, and they wished us a warm gentle and successful life in the USA
FUN!!!
