  1. Well what a journey it has been...

I had my initial interview(yep thats right INITIAL) at the new USCIS office in Long Island. It was not a great experience. Our officer began the interview by literally slamming down 2 letters on the desk and saying "You guys dont even live where you say you do". For some reason some of our mail was being returned by the post office even though the mail man goes there every day. Anyhow, we answered all of our questions correctly except for one. My wife forgot what my job was prior to meeting her. At the end the officer said she would like to do a 2nd interview aka the dreaded Stokes.

Two weeks later we had our interview at Federal Plaza. Well what an experience. We got there and checked in and our rooms for interview got switched twice then the top it off, the officer in charge of our case called in sick! After waiting for over an hour past the scheduled interview time, the supervisor found someone to do our interview. She was amazing! Extremely friendly and made us both comfortable.

We were separated and the interview was taped exactly as you would have read. The questions are exactly as they say, describe the room, side of the bed, colors of things etc.

Interviewer brought us back together and asked about one discrepancy with our answers, which was abt the position of the alarm clock... :bonk: Then that was it, she didnt say we were approved but ended by saying "I wish you lots of success".

My lawyer told us we aced it so opened my email today and saw the "CARD PRODUCTION" email

    Well thats it!

  2. So basically I called USCIS customer service yesterday just to see how come I had no updates on my cases since June 30 just to see what the response would be. I spoke to one of the nicest ladies ever and I woke up this morning at 7:30 am and there`s a text on my phone that says....

Application Type: I765 , APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION

Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production

On August 17, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a "green card") or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, employment authorization document, travel document, or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.

How long after did most persons cards arrive? I can finally drive....well legally now...

  3. Ooofff... I don't know.. you can try I guess?

Not sure what status you are adjusting from. F-1 and J-1 can usually get drivers licences.

Have you tried going to the dmv with your I-94 and NOAs?

DMVs don`t issue drivers license without an unexpired USCIS document anymore even though I've showed them receipt notices and all evidence of a legal presence.

  4. Got a silly question,if I filed my AOS on May 17th and case resumed processing on June 30, would my date of filing be considered June or May in USCIS terms?

My case got resumed processing on June 30 and its been 3 weeks and nothing. I know this forum has a good omen because I see ppl come on here and voila, PROGRESS! So hope the good vibes pass on to me.

Btw, the enthusiasm and helpfulness of everyone on this board is EXCELLENT!

  5. It just means that they are the ones who will be reviewing your case.

Most of us doing AOS have been transferred to NBC.

It is also known as the Missouri Service Center (in Lee's Summit, MO)

Oh ok great...how long does it normally take for an AOS case to go through NBC? Does cashing a check mean everything is ok? Sorry for all the questions...this forum is better than ANY lawyer!

  6. Bad news for me, I submitted my papers on May 27, got biometrics completed now my case is in "suspension" status! I moved and never changed my address with the bank so all the checks I deposited were sent back to my old address since I forgot to sign the back of them :bonk: . I got an "insufficient funds" notice on Friday and paid it the same day I got it to the Burlington Finance Office. Yesterday I got a "suspension" status case update... :(

USCIS customer service says it takes them about a week to get all info from Burlington so fingers crossed!

  7. First off what a great forum!

I was an F-1 student who recently got married to a US citizen and filed my I-130 and all relevant documents for the I-485 this week. Will I be able to obtain a drivers license in NY if I had a previous license that has not been expired for more than a year with proof that I am married to a US citizen and submitted my documents for residency and therefore in the country legally? I sent an email and they had mentioned I only need to bring my SS card, my expired license and proof of my name such as a birth certificate or passport.

My lawyer advised that its worth taking a shot...just not sure. Anyone had any experience with this?
