It depends where exactly you will have the oath and more importantly how many people (applicants) are attending. For an office such as LA where they normally have the number if attendees in thousands, it may take some time. Whereas for an office such as Dallas where the oath ceremony is conducted twice a week every week you will have 200-300 attendees.

My oath ceremony is on June 24 and my IO told me that I could bring family memebers or friends. She also said that it was going to take around 2 hours.

Just 2 people which should be ok but only I was asking if they can come in later after the applicant has been processed since that alone takes almost 2 hours with Houston's 1000-2000 applicants.

I am attending my oath ceremony on June 25th.

Does anybody know what we can bring in (phone, food, laptops, etc.)? Can family members come in later? I heard that it is long, like from 7am - 11am and I wouldn't wish to wake my baby early as well as interrupt his nap time.

@ taatabunny did you file under 3yrs rule? what about writing test, did you do any ?

Yes, and the English test is the writing test!

Here is my interview experience;

First, the Houston office is a busy one. We had to park along the road-side (under a nice shade from the trees) since no cars where being let to park in the available lot.

I took the whole family along with me and we got to the office 15 minutes prior to the appointment time. We passed through the security check and seems like phones can be taken in as long as you don't turn them on. Dropped off the appointment letter in the brown tray and within few minutes, I was called in for the interview.

Interview didn't take that long and the IO was nice. She asked me to raise my right hand to swear that I was telling the truth and only the truth then asked for passport, Alien card and driver's license. And then then civics and history questioning began:

1. Who wrote the declaration of independence?

2. Who is the commander in chief of the armed forces?

3. What are the 2 major political parties?

4. Which one does the current president belong to?

5. Name one state that boarders Mexico

6. Name 3 of the original 13 colonies

And the English test; Who votes congress? The people vote for congress.

After then, we went through my application file asking me almost all the questions in it. At a certain point, she asked me what we show loyalty to when we say the pledge of allegiance and what promise we make (making 8 questions i guess).

After all the questioning, I signed off the N-400 form and twice on some other form and I was recommended for approval. I was walked out to the waiting area and told to wait for the oath letter, which wait was approximately 45 minutes.

The next and final step is the oath ceremony, scheduled on the June 25th 2014.

our interview is on June 16... so nervous. interview is the same time with my husband. and the kids are coming to us. we don't have relatives to look after them. can we request the officer or anyone there to interview us after the other? by the way were going to be interviewed in Holtsville.

I am sure they can allow that. Explain to the immigration officer once you get there.

Has anyone gone through the Houston office recently? Please share your experiences about the interview and oath procedure.

If citizenship is based on marriage, is the spouse's presence so so important? What if for some reason the spouse can't make it, do they re-schedule the interview?

I thought to share my interview experience today. I arrived 15 mins before my interview. My husband was with me, we were told to go to a waiting room and there will be officer to call me for an interview. While waiting , I was about to read the book to review for the civic test, but my husband whispered to me that it is not good idea to show I am still studying on the day of my interview. He added, he think I must show to them that I am well prepared. Then, he meant "them" , he is pertaining to the cctv cameras all over the room!. So I just wait then, we are a bit bored, we can not do nothing because it is not allowed to use cellphone. We waited for 30 mins or 45?,( not paying attention with the time), then my name called. My husband is not allowed to go with me during the interview, which we are aware of.The IO greeted me , it takes me a while to answer back , probably I am starting to get nervous. At her room, she asked me to raise my right hand and swear in. Then, she asked my passport, drivers license and greencard. We proceed to the 10 questions, she stopped at 6th because she said I got all correct answers. After that, we handed me a paper and said to read one sentence written on it. It was a question "When is the President's day" ,after I read she said the answer and told me to write. Then, She said I passed. Then she asked me the questions from the applications. I basically answered what is being asked , such as yes and no. However, the IO had some side comments that helped me to feel a little bit calm. I signed the applications after the question and answer portions. Then she asked me to sign at the right side of my photos that I submitted with my application. She handed me a print out paper and congratulate me, that she is recommending me for approval. She asked me to wait at the waiting room to receive a letter of my schedule for OATH ceremony.Overall it took 2 hours experience. I am scheduled to gain 50 stars and 13 stripes - the Star-spangled banner in May 30 and I will have to give up 3 stars and one sun, the pearl of the orient seas.

Just wanted to break the silence So, in the process of getting acquainted with my new home and switching from British English (in Kenya, we call it the Queen's language) to American English...I've learnt from my fiancé that the word 'thrice' does not exist in American English...you say 'three times' and the pronunciation of 'squirrels' is so different from Kenyan pronunciation

Haha....Many words like rubbish (trash), torch (flashlight), lorry (truck), cheque (check) etc. are not applicable in the American vocabulary. Also, it took me time to pronounce the silent 't' in words like 'water' hence had lots of trouble asking for water at restaurants, hahaha!!!
