  1. 6 months ago? Better be prepared for longer than that! I totally understand your frustration, I am still waiting on 10 year green card ROC from February 2013!!! The whole thing is a pain, but worth it if you are truly in love and wanting to marry that person. My K-1 wait felt like forever, but once I was here and once we were married we could look back and laugh at the experience. You could always go the other legal route with the marriage in your country then AOS, but I believe that takes even longer, you'll be asked more questions, and you cannot live in the same country til approved (same as now then!) Sorry, but I would stick to the legal route! I know there are tons of illegals here, but we aren't going to change that. At least you can stand with your head held high knowing you did the right thing...even if it takes time...good luck!

  2. we had same problem. got RFE last July so sent letters from parents and friends and pictures and plane tickets etc.

had interview last week, she said we are good? it was weird. the only thing missing was 2012 tax return but all others were there. You will probably get an interview. But they didn't ask us many questions at all, like I said, weird! Also I got 2 biometrics requests. It was almost like they lost some of our stuff. We don't have a mortgage together as hubby already had it years before we met and we don't want to pay the fees. But bank accounts, insurances, etc everything else is joint. So, they seemed satisfied at our interview...

    Good luck!

  3. Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share our experience of our interview, in order to help future couples.

We had our interview in Atlanta last week and it was not what I expected.

Our appointment time was 1:30PM but we did not get called until approximately 2:45PM. The immigration officer was very nice, which surprised me, and made us feel comfortable. Before we sat down she made us take an oath. Then, I thought we would be taken to separate rooms, but this didn't happen.

She asked us how we were, and what (if anything) had changed in the past 2-3 years since the marriage and 2-year green card. We spoke a little about our relationship etc. Then she said the reason you are here is because we didn't have enough financial evidence. The main thing she wanted was tax returns (she said in the original packet we sent 2010 and 2012 but not 2011?) so we showed those.

Then we showed some recent photos, our plane tickets from our trip to England at Christmas, and a booking receipt for an upcoming trip next month. She said she was happy with everything and doesn't see any issues. Told us a funny story about some drama that occurred with a couple earlier that day, and sent us on our way!

I was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. I was nervous because I have always felt uncomfortable in these situations due to stoic officers (especially at airports!) but this lady (wish I remembered her name) was wonderful. We were in the interview no more than 10 mins. She did not ask any of the questions I had read about such as what color is your husband's toothbrush, or any questions about our family. It seems as though we had enough evidence but they just needed to see that missing tax return...I was sure we had sent it last year but oh well it's done now!

Our file got sent back to USCIS then we have to wait 30-60 days for the card.

Hope this info can help someone out in the future...thanks :)

  4. thanks for all of these posts, very useful to us as we have been "selected" to interview next week :(

I know it will all be ok as we are very happily married, I wish these immigration officers would skip the interview and just come visit you at your home and stay a few days!

We don't have joint bank accounts b/c I didn't have an income for a long time when first married and then when I got a job it was an actual check so I went with my employer's bank in order to cash the check for free. We did set up a joint account a few months ago for joint expenses, but it hasn't been the whole time we were married.

The mortgage is still just his name as he had the house for years before we met, same for most bills.

But, we have tax returns, letters from family and friends, vacation pics and tickets for trips.

We also have separate healthcare b/c we both have insurance through work.

Hopefully will all be ok though!

  5. Hi everyone,

I have just received a notice for biometrics for my I-751 petition to remove conditions. However, I started this application for the removal in February 2013. I had my biometrics in March 2013. Then we heard nothing until a RFE in July 2013, which we sent back in September 2013. Still heard nothing weeks went by called USCIS constantly never getting through, asked people on here and finally went for infopass last month. Thye stamped my passport to give me authorization for another year and told me I would be getting a letter for an interview soon. So, this letter arrived on Frday and I'm thinkin it would be interview date but no, another request for biometrics. So, what happened to my application and my biometrics from last year??? lost? backed up in busy system? I really want some answers. Just curious is this common practice? I really don't see why I have to go again when this is for the same application. Would love to hear from anyone this has happened to.Thanks!

  6. sorry, I don't know about any of this! thanks for the advice though. it was my understanding that you had to be in the country for 5 years before you could become a citizen. Maybe it has changed or maybe I had false information.

I got married to my US citizen hubby in October 2010. So, yes we have been married for over 3 years. But, my original green card expired in March 2013, so we had not been married 3 years at that point.

So, you are saying I can apply for citizenship now? Or because it's after the time I cannot? Sorry, I know I probably sound dumb, but I do feel that correct info is hard to come by...

We went to USCIS for an infopass last week and they stamped my passport which is valid for work and travel for another year, and told us that we will be getting a letter to come for an interview, but they couldn't tell us when...

    thanks all!!!

  7. this happened to us in July 2013. We sent tax returns, joint bank statements, vacation tickets, and affidavit letters from parents and close friends. Still not enough and we are being asked to come and interview. It is ridiculous. I understand they must have a huge amount of fake cases, but it's very upsetting and frustrating. I wish these immigrations officers would just come live with us for a couple weeks to see we are really in a real, good faith marriage. I don't know what else we can send them to prove! Good luck with your case.

  8. Hello everyone,

    Looking for advice...

I applied for my removal of conditions I-751 in February 2013, and had biometrics in March 2013.

We then got a RFE in late July 2013 which we gathered all the evidence for and mailed back to them late August/early September 2013.

We are now still waiting and getting very anxious.

I have the letter that permits work and travel until February 25th, 2014 so time is running out and I am worried.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

  9. Hi everyone

I see some of you have a lot of evidence. We don't have joint accounts or anything and am worried they will see this as something to question. I sent off pictures of us with family at thanksgiving and christmas, and airplane tickets from our last vacation. But our accounts are separate mainly b/c I didn't have one at first obviously b/c of not being allowd to work. It wasn't something we ever thought of. The house is in his name b/c he already had it years before we met. Same way with the car. We have joint tax returns but that is it!

Anyone else in the same boat?

  10. Hi March filers!

    How time flies!

I have a question about travel...I have the notice that say one-year approval for work and travel etc but want to know if anyone has actually traveled. I want to go visit home in April but am worried about what will happen when I re-enter the US b/c the green card is expired. I read to take the notice letter and the expired green card, but just wanted to know if anyone experience this.

    Thanks!!

  11. Apologies in advance is this topic is already being discussed but I could not find it.

My Green Card expires in March 2013, but we are trying to get organized now. I see the USCIS form instructions say to file 90 days before the GC expiration, which would mean we would file in December/January. However, I wondered if we are able to do it now?

Also, how do I schedule the biometrics? Do they automatically schedule you once the forms have been received? Or do I need to call somewhere and schedule it? I really can't remember what I did last time...

    Thank you :)

  12. thanks! so you dont think i need to change my name on my ticket now then? i am having problems with it as we are using a family members buddy pass as they used to work for delta, they have to authorise all travellers names, and we are booked on a standby list to make things more complicated!!!i would hate to get to the airport and be told i cant fly!

  13. OK thanks, thats what i figured. I got a reply from the UK passport office yesterday, they said its fine to travel in your maiden name as long as your plane ticket is in the same name, oops, i booked my ticket in my new name!

just worried about getting back into the us, i guess they would ask for my green card at the POE not my passport anyways?!?!

  14. Hey, hope someone can help!

I am from the UK, living in the US with American hubby. My green card, drivers license, ss card etc are in my new married name. But my passport is in my maiden name. We are going to the UK on vacation in a couple weeks and am wondering if I need to change my passport to get back into the US on our return, or do I just show them my green card??? thanks!

  15. Hello all...

Hope everyone is good and having a good 2011 so far...

I have some questions about my AOS/EAD as looking at the timelines people are jumping ahead of me :(

I had my biometrics on 9th november 2010.

On 23rd november we got a rfe asking for more evidence of my husbands income and tax info.

We sent this all off in december. We have heard nothing at all...but I know they received it as we paid for certified mail and according to the tracking they got it on december 27th.

I have seen otehr people receive the EAD withing 60 days. I am desperate to get back to work!!!

I am wondering, should I be expecting a new NOA or will they just send the EAD when ready???

I assume I don't have to go for biometrics again?

ANy advice, who can I contact/call? It's driving me crazy.

    Thanks

  16. Hello Everyone,

I have some questions about the I-131 Advance Parole document.

I recently filed my I-485 Adjustment of Status, but at the time did not do the advance parole as we couldnt afford it.

Can I still file it even though the AOS has already started the process?

I am confused as on the uscis instructions it says you do not need to file if you are a K3 holder and if you have an AOS pending. And then I read somewhere that the $360 fee is waived if you have an AOS pending.

So...should I just mail in the form without any payment to them now???

Thank you in advance for clarification...
