  1. Thanks all. That decides it then. It'll have to be tourist visas for all.

One more question though: How can we ensure that my wife and her parents get tourist visas valid for the duration of their stay? The VFS site and the staffer on the phone didn't give us much confidence that we can be guaranteed to be granted the length of stay desired. It's apparently decided at the time of interview, and again up for evaluation and the opinion of the officer at the port of entry in the US! Is it difficult to say whether they will all get to stay for the 2 or 3 months we're planning on?

    Thanks,

    Eddie

  2. Hi all,

I live in India with my Indian citizen wife. I've never taken her to the states and we now want to make a trip to the US together for a few months just to visit and stay with relatives and friends. We'll be leaving in around 3 months.

Does she have to take a tourist visa? Or is there an advantage to going for an immigrant visa? We don't have any plans currently to settle in the US. We just want the easiest and cheapest option to have my wife be able to come and go to the states with me for visits over the years.

Also her parents will be making the trip as well and staying with their other daughter (a US citizen) the whole time. (They both have expired green cards for whatever that's worth.) Is a tourist visa the only way to go for them?

    Thanks,

    Eddie
