  1. This wonderful site helped me to get my wife's visa, and now her (older) kids are here on their K2's. Background wise, the kids are 17 and 15 yrs. old, and they arrived (with us) last week, after we spend December in Colombia. Gina (my wife) has her green card w/ the 2 year status (issued in Oct. of 2011).

My question / concern with the AOS process for her kids is the 2 year *temporary* status, mainly because her daughter is ready to start university, and her son has one more year of *collegio*. Their english isn't good enough to go to school here, so the plan is/was to get their AoS, then have them return to finish their schooling in Colombia. Then, return in the future.

The fear I have is that they will be rejected @ the interview in 2 years, after they've had their status' adjusted, due to their passports showing they were here for the first 6-9 mos. then returned to Colombia. Part of the reason for our inquiry is that traveling / vacation visas from Colombia are (understandably) very hard to get.

Any insight or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance & GB this website.

  2. I really can't offer much (except this bump TTT), b/c I'm @ about the same stage as you - and working w/ Bogota as well.

I have read here that many filers do fax docs to the embassy, and they get confirmations somehow. And I do understand your potential concerns w/ the mail system in Colombia. I might suggest posting this (or getting it moved) to the Lat Am forum, and if possible posting it in both english and spanish.

I'd be interested in this info as well. And good luck w/ everything.

I'm heading to Cartagena next week to hang w/ my colombiana for 13 days  . (actually Tanganga - East of Santa Marta).

  3. First off, congratulations on the approval of your petition! If you have not already received your NOA2 in the mail, it should be arriving very soon!

At this point in time, USCIS considers your case "closed." They've done their part and your packet is on it's way to the NVC which will quickly forward it to the Columbian Embassy. I'm not really sure how to apply for a change of address abroad for your fiance. If you attempt to contact USCIS at this point, they won't know who you are.

my thoughts to you would be to email the Columbian Embassy with your question. The I-129F process is generally the longest. At this point things are going to be moving VERY quickly! I'm telling you to contact the Embassy in Columbia because this is where you are going to discover that every Embassy does things their own way. Some Embassies do it "this way" while others do things "that way."

From the very beginning of this entire process, Lizeth hasn't received a single piece of information from ANYBODY, and her interview is coming up in a couple of weeks at the Bolivian Embassy. Every single notice, letter, email, etc., has always come to me either through USPS or email. But that may not be the case in Columbia.

If you've not already done so, you can find contact information by clicking through the "Embassy Info" tab at the top of the VJ screen.

    My Next Advice For You

Because the pace is going to start picking up soon, you and your fiancee would do well to start getting things prepared for the next step. Againk if you've not already done so, visit the official Columbian Embassy's website. Research as much information as you possibly can about how their process works, what documents and forms are needed, etc. I tried to get a jump start on preparing for Lizeth's interview, but things are moving so quickly for us, that I wish there were 30 hours in a day!

Congratulations again! Good luck on your Visa Journey!

    Hey Eric.

Thanks for the info and advise. And best wishes for your interview on the 15th. You must be both excited and terrified @ the same time. Please do let me know how it goes.

And anyone dealing w/ the embassy in Colombia (Bogota) know how to inform them about a change of address (for her)?

Not sure why someone quoted your posts (avove) w/ no comment.

  4. I'm new to the forum, and if somebody can answer these questions, i would gladly appreciate it. First off, I'm petitioning a k-1 visa for my fiance in Colombia, I've already received my NOA 2 41 days after receiving my first NOA 1. my first question is:

    1. Does my fiance have to have any documents with an apostille seal when she goes to the interview at the embassy in Bogota, Colombia?

    2. I have my birth certificate from 2008 and i asked for it for marriage purposes because at the time i was thinking of marrying my fiance in Colombia, but decided not to, Can i Still take it to the interview or would i have to ask for a recent birth certificate of this year??

    3. In 2003 my fiance went with some family trying to get a tourist visa, and they got denied, does she have to take some document stating the she got denied a tourist visa in 2003?? or they"ll see in the system that she got denied a visa??

Thank you all for taking the time to read this, I'm just another guy who is in love and just wants to be happy, thanks :whistle:

    1. I'd post this in the LAT AM forum here, in english and spanish and I'm sure someone will help. I haven't heard of that, but we're at about the same stage of this process.

    2. I can't imagine you'd need a "new" birth cert. As long as the one you have is "official", it should be fine. It worked (or your passport) for the original filing.

Good luck, and PM me if you find out about #1 pls.

  5. I rec'd this email today

Seems faster than I thought (filed on 4/22 iirc).

Good news I think that they're not asking for RFE.

And finally, if my fiancee moved recently, and has a new address - I am assuming that I need to file that somewhere (so she can get the info delivered)

Thanks in advance! Very excited this is somewhat painless (so far :crossesfingers:)

  6. Thanks for the replies and information!

I was looking more for a site like dateinasia.com. One that you don't have to pay for sending and receiving messages and information. He is not to good on computers. Thanks for any further information!

If he's really serious about finding someone and getting married, I'd strongly suggest finding a reputable site and spending a little $. I would stay away from craigslist, but that's just me. If he's stressed about $50 for 6 mos of *membership*, what's he going to do when he needs to pay for phone calls, trips to meet down there, and prove he can financially support them if he wants to apply for her visa?
