I called today the number on the letter and spoke to a real person. Basically they said that even though I would become a citizen later, at this date I am not a citizen and therefore not eligible. So i returned the letter stating I was not eligible. Better wait for the next letter rather than being accused of false claim to US citizenship. Thanks to all, your advice was very good indeed.

It says on the letter that they use voter registration OR DMV database to select potential jurors. Since I have a driver's license, my selection must have come from the DVM database.

I am trying to figure out how you got selected as they typically use the voter registration in your county to select potential juries. If you are really interested I would responsed that as of 08/25/2014 your are not eligible but as of 08/27/2014 you should be eligible as you will be come a USC and are interested in serving on the jury. Then see what they do. I would state very clearly that you are not yet a USC, but SHOULD be one by 08/27/2014.

No, it's the opposite, it would be a no brainer if I didn't want to go, I'd just send back the letter saying not eligible. In France we only have jurys for exceptionnal trials that make their way to the top courts. That difference makes me interested in the judicial process here and would like to attend at least once to see how it goes.

So let me rephrase my original question: Am I allowed to just wait or do I have to respond back saying not eligible?

They have aphone number on the letter that I will call and get their feeling about it but I wondered if people here already had to deal with a similar situation.

my understanding is you do not want to be part of that jury thing,right!! and as of now, you are not a us citizen yet ...So your answer to them is clear: NoT A us citizen.

first and foremost, I am not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, so if it not in the right place and you are a moderator, please move this topic to the correct place.

After researching the forums for a similar issue, I couldn't find anything so here is the situation:

- My situation: I am an LPR. I had my naturalization interview on 07/07/2014 and it was approved. I received my appointment letter for the Oath ceremony for 08/27/2014. So I am NOT a US citizen yet.

- What the jury summons says: "report on 09/09/2014"

I see 2 ways of looking at the situation:

1) If everything goes according to plan, I will be a US citizen on 09/09/2014 and therefore should report for jury duty.

2) As of the day I received the letter (08/15/2014), I am not a US citizen and therefore disqualified from performing jury duty.

The letter states that I have 10 days to respond if not qualified. Should I send the letter back saying I don't qualify since I won't be a US citizen within the 10 day window or should I just wait and report on 09/09/2014. The problem I see with waiting is if something happens (cannot attend oath ceremony for instance, or ...) and I don't become a US citizen on 08/27/2014, then it is too late to send the letter back.

Any advise welcome

My oath ceremony is coming soon and I have a question about the dress code for the GUESTS. I know they says no jeans, shorts or flip flops for the citizen to be but I can't find anything about the guests dress code. I live in San Diego, CA so the usual casual wear often includes shorts and flip flops; is this acceptable for the guests to wear these at the ceremony?

My second question is related to the time at which the guests should be there. I read somewhere that the actual ceremony usually starts at 10:00am but they ask me to be there at 08:00am. Can my guest arrive at 10:00am? Do they let people in even if the ceremony has already started?

oui il faut informer l'USCIS. Vu que tu n'a pas de paperasse en cours tu dois juste remplir le formulaire AR-11 en ligne ou l'imprimer et l'envoyer et c'est tout.

courage a ceux qui sont dans l'attente ! A l epoque ou j ai fais mon k1 c'est le CSC qui trainait des pattes, comme toi Yohann a l epoque ou on a envoye les papiers les NOA2 arrivaient en meme pas 3 mois, et peu de temps apres ca mettait 8 mois !! Je peux te dire que ca m'a degoute de tout ce process et que je hais profondement tout ce qui a un rapport avec homeland security et l immigration americaine !

Pour ma part j'ai eu ma carte verte en mars, donc j ai un peu plus d un an de repis avec USCIS. Je ne pense pas demander la nationalite Americaine par contre... je ferai juste un renouvellement de GC tous les 10 ans. Ca m interresse pas, je me sens pas Americaine, trop de difference de mentalite et de mode de vie...

En ce moment je suis dans la paperasse avec le consulat de france pour faire (enfin) regulariser mon mariage sur les resgistres d etat civil et la naissance de ma fille. ca me manquait pas tout ca !

Sinon une petite question. On emmenage dans notre maison dans 2/3 semaines environ. Je ne suis plus dans la paperasse USCIS pour le moment mais je dois quand meme les informer de ma nouvelle adresse? Comment je fais?

On a une timeline très similaire et pour moi l'oath ceremony sera le 27 août prochain à San Diego.

Quand j'ai commence le process (K1) on en etait toujours au topic French/American Couples - Part One !

Je ne pense pas que celles et ceux qui etaient presents / actifs ici de mon temps sont encore la a trainer mais ce fut une super aventure.

Brievement, K1 en Septembre 2010, Greencard (Adjustement of Status) en Octobre 2010 (recue en Mars 2011), Removal of Conditions 2 ans plus tard et ensuite US Citizenship en Mars 2014. On a tout fait des que possible et en gros ca nous a pris 4 ans et 4 mois entre envoi du K1 et Naturalisation.

I am so confused. Last Thursday (9/27) I (USC) received my NOA2 in the mail for my K-1 visa. Today I got an envelope from "ministere de la justice et des libertes" in France. In the envelope was three identical pieces of paper. They were labeled BULLETIN NUMERO 3. And stated BULLETIN DELIVRE LE 28/09/2012 applicable à (my Fiance's name, birthdate, and birthplace). It was addressed to me, but with his name first. Then it said "Relevé des condamnations devant figurer au bulletin n3 en application de l'art. 777 du code de procedure penale. Then at the bottom it says "En l'absence de condamnation devant figurer au bulletin n3, celui-ci ne comporte qu'une barre transversale"

These are the French police records. You got it because your fiancé ordered it to the French authorities. It is needed for the interview at the embassy. It was sent to you because your fiancé probably gave them your address.

Even if you are "just PACSed", you can't marry someone else so you are not legally free to marry and that is one of the condition to be eligible on a K1. Also if you dig this forum a little, you'll find stories of people who did a fake fiancée or wedding celebration and were denied because it looked like they were married even though they were not legally married.

My fiance and I decided to wait out the K1 process while living together in France. I've been here for about a month now and though I had some luck getting job interviews, they are not willing to give me a work visa and getting a student visa is too costly for me (i would have to actually pay for class). So we were thinking of getting a PACS (Pacte Civile de Solidarité) so that I can get a long stay visa and work authorization. For those of you who are not familiar with it: PACS in France is not really marriage, its more similar to the Civil Union that we have in the US. My question is, would getting PACSed count towards a marriage and void our K1 visa or is it okay to do?

To apply for a K-1 visa you must be FREE to marry but if you get PACSed you are not free to marry anymore. For that reason, it would have the same effect as getting married.

I would advise that you contact the university where you are going and ask them if you need a visa. 3 weeks is short but if you are studying, it is different than being a tourist and you may need a visa.

Oui, je suis aller voter. Heureusement, il y avait un bureau à San Diego donc pas besoin d'aller à LA. Bon c'est vrai que SD à LA c'est pas non plus le bout du monde mais c'est bien pratique quand il y a un bureau plus près.

Avez-vous un site prefere pour vos vols USA-France? J'ai l'habitude de reserver sur Kayak. Je dois aller en France en juin. Cela fait des mois que je regarde les vols, le prix le plus bas pour un AR Denver-Paris $1335... Aie! (je n'ai jamais payer plus de $700).

Pour le mois de juin je ne pense pas que tu puisse trouver beaucoup mieux. Aussi j'ai remarqué que les vols aux départ des US sont plus cher que les vols au départ de la France : par exemple un Paris - San Diego - Paris à 700€ (soit environ 950$) mais un San Diego - Paris - San Diego 1200$ soit 25% plus cher!!

J'ai mis l'adresse e-mail sur la fiche consulat. Par contre quand j'essaie d'ajouter des commentaires tout le texte est automatiquement mis en lien hypertexte. Si quelqu'un sait comment ajouter du texte sans que ça soit pris en compte en lien hypertexte allez-y. Le texte que je voulais ajouter est : "if you leave your name, a phone number and your case number the embassy should call you back."

The direct flight from london is very recent. Until recently to go to SD from France you had to have a stop in NY or Chicago or Atlanta or Houston or...... and 1 of those cities was your POE.

Most of the international flights to SD are from Mexico or Canada (with a lot of US customs at canadian airports), London is the only international flight from Europe so far.

Si tu es deja mariée il faut que tu obtienne un visa CR-1. en effet pour obtenir ce visa il faut que ton conjoint fasse une petition qui contien entre autre le I-130, le G325a et plein d'autres documents.

Je te conseille la lecture du guide de ce forum ici tu y trouvera tous les documents qu'il te faut.

Alors j'explique vite-fait mon cas. Et je vous remercie d'avance pour le temps que vous allez consacrer à mon post.

Donc, je suis française et me suis mariée avec un citoyen américain il y a quelques temps. Mais le mariage n'était absolument pas prévu. Je séjournais au Texas avec un simple ESTA. Mais nous nous sommes mariés (après 4 ans de relation) et donc notre mariage est officiel, reconnu, je porte son nom et j'en passe.

Maintenant il souhaiterait me faire venir dans son pays. Niveau paperasse nous sommes un peu perdus. J'ai crue comprendre qu'il devait remplir le I-130 (c'est fait, en attente d'envoi). Mais pour le reste ? Faut-il remplir le G-325a ? Il me semble que cela va de pair... On a tellement peur de commettre une erreur que du coup... On patauge. Lol.

I think you can wait a few weeks. There are people that receive the P3 while they are visiting their loved one and can't send anything until they are back.

As for a month to a month and a half, I just checked the VJ timelines and it looks like 4/5 weeks wait with some variation. In my case, for instance, there was 5 weeks between me sending back the P3 and my interview date but that was in July / August 2010.

I think if you send your P3 about 25 days before your arrival in France you should get a date while you are there.

We've received packet 3 in the mail and we are about to begin filling out the forms. However, I was wondering how long we have to send in DS-2001/DS-230? I am allowed to attend the interview with my fiancée and I would really like to be there with her when it happens. It would work out perfectly if I could have it fit during a three week period in March because I have a break from school around that time. I know I can't request a specific date, but I figured maybe I can wait a bit until the beginning of February to have everything returned to the consulate. I know they usually issue a date a month to a month and a half after packet 3 is returned. So the ultimate question is, how long before any of these forms expire or my case in general? Any answers, advice, or suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
