  1. My wife had her interview yesterday. NO mention of this yellow form letter at all. He just reviewed all the questions on the original application which of course includes questions such as "have you ever voted". When he reviewed this question my wife presented the voter look up we had done, but she felt she just could of answered no. The key thing is that he had the original application where she answered no to all the questions that this yellow form seemed to imply she answered yes to. She passed and will have her oath sometime in January or Febuary (she asked for it later since she is due to have a baby girl the end of the month).

Congrats to Sam3323 and I hope everyone elses interviews go well.

  2. Any update? I also filed from Chicago. I got same king of letter for voter card and history.

We called USCIS again and spoke to an "officer". She claimed that at the interview they will have the original application where my wife indicated she was never arrested, detained... and that she never registered to vote or voted. We'll still print out the voter look up to show her name is not found but we're not so worried about it right now. We were definitely a bit surprised when we first got the letter. She went for her fingerprints and photo already but she still has not received an interview date. I'll try to remember update here with what transpires when she does go.

  3. Unless she made a mistake on the form and answered YES on those 2 questions, you guys shouldn't worry about it..because at the interview they will go over those YES and NO questions on her application and they will disregard that yellow letter once they see they made a mistake..good luck

p.s im from Moldova too..where do you guys live?

We checked the form and she definitely answered No on those questions so it should not be a problem. It's just a bit disturbing at first to receive such a letter. I ended up speaking to an officer at the USCIS number and she claimed that they would have the original application there. I'm pretty sure now that they scanned in the application and the scanner incorrectly picked up Yes answers and that's what prompted the yellow letter.

We live on Long Island in New York. I see your interview is soon. Good luck! We should be getting a date soon.

  4. Here are some experiences... of course if it's all a mistake, this is irrelevant, but it's better to have more information. Don't scare yourself, just try to find out if she ever registered or was registered by someone. The odd thing is, everyone I've read about either knew about the registration before applying, or found out about it at the interview... Your letter seems unique... this makes me think they may have mixed up your wife's application with someone who answered Yes. Good luck to you.

Thanks so much for your responses.

After looking at the N-400 again I saw that questions 2 and 3 are about voting so I'm pretty sure now that there must have been mistakes when they scanned the application (or mixed up my wife's application with someone elses) since my wife answered No to both voting questions and No to questions 22-28 (she didn't have a drivers license at the time, so no chance she had any violations). As far as being inadvertently registered to vote I checked on the State website and it finds me but not her.

The question is do we try to correct this now or just handle it at the interview?

  5. My wife applied for citizenship and received this letter today.

The Incorrect part states: "You indicated on your application that you have been arrested, cited or detained"... and goes on to say to bring all documentation. She's never been "arrested, cited or detained" and answered No to these questions on the form.

The Odd part says: "Please bring your voter's registration card and provide documentation obtained from the local election authority documenting your voting history." How can she vote if she's not a citizen??? Who knows, maybe they would be incompetent enough to register her but she did not try to register.

We called USCIS and spoke to a customer service rep but she really wasn't that helpful. She just said it was probably a mistake and tell that at the interview. We think the incorrect information should be corrected before hand. As far as the voter's registration we are just confused.

Any advice? Has anyone else received such a letter?

  6. From doing a search on affidavits it appears that people are submiting affidavits from individuals yet from reading our request for additional evidence it states: "An affidavit... must be sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who: ...". It then goes on to list the required knowledge these "two people" have.

I was going to submit an affidavit from a friend but he is not "two people" so even though others are submiting affidavits from individuals, to my understanding an affidavits from him would not meet their requirements.

Any opinions as to whether I should bother to send one from him anyway?

  7. The fact that others have written to try to use the day before or after, for example:

Try using a day before and a day after your case was sent out.

says to me that there is no way to be absolutely sure about which package your case is in.

Well, last post for me on this topic. To all those who use this tracking method (or don't use it), congratulations! you made it out of the NVC.

    Best of luck to all.

  8. Plain and simple. There is no way to prove your case is in a particular package sent to any embassy. When you trace a package using this method does the information you receive say that your case is in the package you are tracing? - NO. Most likely it is but it could be other cases or anything the NCV sends to an embassy. I did traces when I knew our package was sent, but the tracking information did not include case numbers - thus just because a package was sent (even on the same day NVC says they sent your case) it does not mean your case was in a package you see on the DHL website. DHL does not keep track of NVC case numbers they just deliver packages. If you want to trace packages and assume your case was in the package you find on DHL's website and it makes you happy - great.

  9. So I checked AVR today and got this message: "NVC HAS REVIEWED YOUR FORM ON 3/14/11 AND FOUND MISSING OR INCOMPLETE INFORMATION. A CHECKLIST HAS BEEN GENERATED FOR FURTHER INFORMATION..." Does anyone out there got this message and what it means? Does this means I got an RFE for my AOS? I can't think of what it could be because I have sent every single document that was required, even sent more documents just to be sure. I am in panicky mode right now.:(

It may just mean that they received your AOS and are waiting for your DS-230. It may be the "MISSING OR INCOMPLETE INFORMATION". The checklist letter I received by email said "Please review the information listed under each applicant's name and provide any documents which are indicated as missing or need additional information". The last page stated what was missing was the DS-230 and civil documents.

When listening to the message on the AVR and reading the first part of the checklist letter it did sound like it was an RFE, but it wasn't. I hope this is the same case for you.

    Best of luck.

  10. Hi everyone!

I just received my NVC and IIN numbers, and I'm going over the VJ Guides... lots to read up on!

I have a question, not sure if anyone here might know the answer though. If not, I will call the NVC Monday and ask, but I thought I'd try here anyway :)

Here's the deal- I'm the U.S. Citizen petitioner, my wife's the beneficiary. I've been living in Miami since last summer, having moved here from up north shortly after getting married. I wasn't sure for how many months I'd be staying at my current apartment in Miami so I've been using my parents' mailing address up north as my own up till now.

I'm about to send the DS-3032 out via my wife's email, and now I'm wondering if I should still use my parents' address from up north or use my apartment address in Miami.

Any thoughts from my more experienced friends out there?

I moved right before getting our NOA2. I filled out an online address change with USCIS and sent an email to the NVC with my new address as soon as I got my case number. I used the new address on DS-3032, I-864 and DS-230 forms and did not have any problems.

  11. Well hubbys interview has been delayed so this changes things some more....I officially moved out now and well i have a bad feeling about telling them he will be leaving with my parents if its not true....I think im going to tell hubby to just be honest aand say that we i have moved and provide our new address at the interview. If any one else has some advice i would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, at this point I would definitely have your husband give the new address. You should also do a change of address with USCIS and maybe NVC (not sure what is required after being approved by the NVC). I moved just before I got NOA2 and changed my address online with USCIS and then sent (by email) my new address to the NVC.

  12. they sent us an RFE wanting passport photographs and copies of my divorce,

what is odd is that they never requested evidence of the joint documents, and we actually made the mistake of not sending it in the first place -

You say the RFE requests passport photos and copies of your divorce. Not sure why you mention "joint documents". Did the RFE also ask for "joint documents"?

  13. Hi all,

I'm in the process of checking-over my I-130. My only question is that my permanent residence is in another state than mine and my wife's job offer. I'm kind of unsure what to do here as we'll be using the letters of job offer to establish domicile in the states. I have other documents such as an old car tax bill etc that can establish my permanent residence (along with a bank account). I'd just like to know if there should be a problem that our "intending residence" is not in the same state as our job offers. We don't have a place in that state yet. I guess you all can see my question.

I put my current residence even though I did not intend to stay there. When I actually moved I did a change of address with USCIS and used that address on the DS-230. We did not have any problems.

  14. USCIS's own instructions are clear, that when a US Passport is used as evidence of citizenship, you are to include a copy of ALL PAGES. Your point about blank pages appearing meaningless is noted. However, they have a reason for requesting them all. They don't state why but I suspect it's because some people get caught falsifying this information and one of the ways to catch them is to compare the copies of the pages to what they look like in a passport issued in the same place during the same time period. Not all US passport pages look alike and THEY know what the pages are supposed to look like. They also want to see the amendments and endorsement pages, even if THEY are blank.

Compare the blank pages in your old passport with the ones in a new one. If possible, compare yours to one issued elsewhere and/or during a different time frame. You'll get the picture. I've seen lots of copies of passport pages and you might be quite surprised at how different they are.

PS: I've also seen scans/copies of forged visas. So have they. Usually pretty easy to spot with a trained eye.

Not sure where the USCIS has clear instructions. In the I-130 instructions (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-130instr.pdf) it just says: "A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport". Given this, I would not assume that the biographic data page alone would be enough and I would probably send copies of all pages (I did not have to deal with this question since I used a copy of my birth certificate).

Thanks for responding. I would not want someone taking my advise and winding up with an RFE for not including copies of all pages.

Also interesting to know that not all US passport pages look alike.

  15. Did you try Aerosvit Airlines? I got my wife a one way ticket for $377 from Chisinau Moldova (through Kiev) to New York, but could only get this price a month in advance. My wife's interview is 6 days before the flight and of course there is no guarantee of approval, but the price was just way too good not to take a chance.

  16. As far as copying blank visa pages, there is nothing to show that it is from your passport (no name, no passport number). I would definitely NOT include copies of these pages. If I worked for the USCIS, I would just get annoyed having to look through them. The only thing of any value on the visa pages is if you were issued an actual visa with your name and passport number on it. It could be used for a K1 visa to show you have been to your fiancé's country to meet.
