  1. Hi there,

It will soon be time for me to renew my permanent resident card which I know I have to do by filing form I-90 within the 6 months of my card expiring. I have a question though. During my time as a permanent resident I was diagnosed with a couple of mental illnesses. I know that there is no medical examination to renew my green card but could this affect anything? I have never committed a crime. I've wound myself up into quite a panic and am quite stressed about this.

    Thanks in advance

  2. This is an OFFICIAL answer I got when I asked this question on the CBP website:

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) INFO Center.

Based on the information you have provided you need to provide your Notice of Action I-797 at time of travel. Many airlines will not board passengers with an expired green card - unless they have a Notice of Action (Form I-797) verifying that they have applied to replace it - in addition to the expired card, and - depending on where you are going, an unexpired passport.

Thank you again for contacting the CBP INFO Center.

    Sincerely,

    CBP INFO Center

  3. Application Type: CRI89 , PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED

Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production

On March 11, 2013, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

  4. You can't file to remove conditions earlier than the 90 days that precedes the expiration of your Green Card. Period. So you can file in August.

As for the rest of the questions, I would consult with an experienced Immigration Attorney. We are not qualified to advise you on such matters.

The above form gives you instructions on how and when to file.

  5. If I were you, I'd contact the US Embassy for advice. You ARE for all intents and purposes still a Conditional Permanent Resident, your status hasn't changed but you don't have any proof of that right now. You may run into issues boarding the aircraft on the way back. You also may have issues at the POE when you get back to the US. Nobody can tell you what's going to happen. The Embassy SHOULD be able to provide you with some proof of your status to get you home safely.

  6. It seems I may also have an issues when the time comes for my GC being mailed. When my attorney changed my address with USCIS they only changed it with the # on the original NOA/Extenstion letter. The # that is on the ASC Appointment Notice and the one we use for tracking shows no address change. So I called USCIS, they can't confirm what address they have on file apparently. I had them change my address on the correct case number but it may not go through in time. So it's possible that when my new GC is mailed it will go to my OLD address. Luckily I have a forwarding service with USPS which means it won't be delivered there, it will just get sent back to USCIS.

So annoying. You'd think my attorneys office would have picked up on this. I'm making an infopass appointment to go and find out what's going on with my address.

  7. Congrats everyone! I'm jealous :)

Instead, I will start my own countdown! 26 days until I make an infopass appointment for David to get the passport stamp so we can go to Morocco! The trip's not until June, but our local office (Baltimore) is super busy and the dates go very quickly. More irritating is that he has to take a personal day in order to do it and doesn't get very many at his job...

Hang in there! I am still waiting too... Our time will come soon :)

  8. Nice to see some VSC filers getting approved. Though it's a little disheartening that people who filed after me are getting approved. I get there is never any rhyme or reason on how USCIS does things, I see people that filed in May are still waiting. Doesn't make any sense. Congratulations to everyone approved so far! Crossing my fingers I hear something soon, I haven't had any RFE's which I guess is a good sign.

  9. I am aware that I can travel with my Passport, Expired Green Card and Extension Letter. I travel overseas to the UK in April and my letter is good until June. I am still waiting for my ROC to be approved and it's possible that it may be approved before I go and if that's the case it won't be an issue. What I'm worried about is if they approve it whilst I've overseas and mail my GC to me whilst I'm away. Will I still be able to get back into the US with my Expired Card and Letter?
