finally my wife got the visa in hand. her interview was on 3rd march 2010 and she was than put on ap. finally first week of this month they asked for her passport which she submitted on 7th june 2010. got passport back with visa on 29th june 2010. it was a long journey for us. in 2007 i had applied for k1 visa which was denied. we got married in may 2008 and applied again. and after over 2 years we r going to be to gather . i thank everybody on VJ for all the information and support. and i pray for everybody else that they get visa soon. field investigation is when the visit u or ur neighbors and ask questions about relationship. in my case they only called my wife and neighbors and ask tricky questions. they did not visit. but in some cases they do. now its been 3 weeks they have my wives passport but have not heard anything from them. she called embassy and they say its under processing. i pray every day that she gets her passport back with visa soon. good luck 2 u khan sahib.

thanks emt for ur response. my wives interview was on march 3rd 2010. so medical and police report should be ok. they just asked for passport. so u think sometimes it will take more than 10 days to issue visa after the passport is submitted.

my wife got letter to submit passport at vfs office. its been 12 days now and i have not received the passport back yet. my wife called the embassy and they say consular is checking the case. call next week. i also e mailed them and the replied back saying its in processing and they receive the documents i sent (passport) but documents have to be checked b4 decision is made. can any senior member shed any light on this. from reading the posts in forum they ask for passport when ap is over and they issue visa in ten days or so. any input will be appreciated. my wife has been on ap from march 25th 2010. she got the letter to submit passport after field investigation was done.

i still have not got the passport back. my wife called and they said consular is reviewing it ,call us next week. i hope she gets the visa soon. usually they ask for the passport when ap is over. so i am just crossing my fingers and praying. anybody went through similar situation pl share. good luck to u amit

zaib could u tell me which embassy ur case was in. did u send ur passport through vfs ? or did u just go to embassy? pl share

my wife got a letter from delhi embassy saying please submit your passport at nearest vfs office so that we can complete the processing of your case. so does this mean they are going to issue her the visa? she submitted her passport on 7th june. how long does it usually take to get the passport back. anybody with similar experience please share. the letter does not say anything about visa but only to submit passport. i called dos and funny thing is they say its still pending in ap and visa is not issued yet .they wont give me any other information. they know nothing about the letter.

she dint have a visit . they called many people from her village to confirm marriage and also called my wife asking questions about our marriage. they also called relatives from my side. her interview was on march 3rd.

u r right scott about trick questions. they will do anything to try to find a way to deny. they wont even tell u that they r calling from embassy. good luck 2 u.

i gave them only numbers for the people who attended my marriage and most of them were cell numbers. but all the phone calls they made were on land line. they also called some people who were not in my marriage and i dint provide them with there phone numbers but they still got it from somewhere. my wife thinks they get the village phone directory and call randomly.

hey karina whats (op is in ap) . at the interview my wife was given 221g and the asked for a list of people who attended the marriage and there phone numbers. also affidavits from me and her. after they got that they put her on ap and now they r checking.

thanks for sharing. they called some more people today and asked them trick questions. like they called her village headman and told him they were looking to arrange my wives marriage with somebody from usa. they wanted to know if she was a good person. the headman said she is already married. what r u talking about. see they dint tell him that they were calling from embassy. they acted like they were looking for a girl for marriage. headman was present at our marriage . and he knew we were married. my wife thinks they also called some other people. they did call my uncle and asked him about everything. i hope my wife gets visa soon. i prey for everybody in ap.

oh they keep on telling that they r going to visit but so far phone calls only

my wife has been on ap for 2 months and today she got a call from the delhi embassy and they asked her all kind of questions . they asked her about her family like how many brothers and sisters ,parents name ,grandparents name. than they asked about my previous 3 marriages , how many wives i sponsored ,when did i come to usa and how did i get here? than they asked her if she married me to come to usa to which my wife said no i married him coz i like him and love him

and its all Gods wish to which the guy said its bull. other than that everything went ok and my wife answered all the questions that were asked. she just answered what she was asked and dint say anything else. she also came to know that somebody else in her village got a call too just asking them about her family. so what do u think? is this normal for them to call? and anybody else with same experience pl share. i hope they will be giving her visa soon. please share ur thoughts and may God end everybody ap soon. good luck

they asked my wife to submit more proof with her passport at vfs office. after they got all the things they asked for they sent my spouse passport back with a letter saying u r under mandatory ap. and i am still waiting from last 6 weeks.

sorry to hear about ur situation. u r right delhi consulate is horrible. did they put her on ap at the interview or did they ask for more documents. how u know they verified documents and if u don't mind asking what did they accuse ur wife off? what did they tell her when they called her.

u r right in india anything is possible. i am only worried that this is not some kind of scam."no original needed"? but again in india i have seen things happen. but the ad looks pretty legit and my wife also called the guy in person in india(he had phone listed in his ad } and guy told her the same thing he told me in e-mail. it will cost me about same if my spouse drives or takes a bus to delhi plus the hassle of standing in line and may be staying there overnight since its 8 hr drive from my house. and than pain and suffering of traveling. so i think it will be worth 2000 rupees by just doing it by mail. i am only worried about this being some kind of scam. but i am going to try.

u mean 150 dollars? that's how much u paid.i cant believe it. u r right though that its hard to find somebody to do it. there r not too many around and most of them don't even know what apostille is. they initially notarized her passport copies wrong but telling her its apostille attestation and irs rejected it. thats the reason i posted it her and did some research on internet.

my wife is also under ap from last 6 weeks. there is nothing u can do. just wait. u can call dos office at 202 663 1225 and keep checking the status although they don't tell much other than that your case is under ap. just a waiting game and praying will help. good luck. i hope ap ends for everyone soon.

thanks for all the replies. i found somebody online in delhi who will do this for 2000 rupees. he wants my spouse send the copy of her passport and the guy say he don't need the original they can manage without it. here is the e mail i received

"Apostille attestation on passport copy can be managed. For this job we require only one working day and even the clients presence is also not required. We have done it several times for clients from USA, required for tax purposes.

Although original passport is required to submit in MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) for the purpose to cross check all the contents in the photocopy, but we can manage it even without that.

It will cost you Rs. 2000 and will take one day. It would be first attested by a notary and then Apostille. We suggest you to send us the color photocopy of your passport and it should be in such a manner that both, front and back side of the passport page appear on the same side (See sample attachment)

If you require this attested photocopy in USA then the additional cost of International courier (DHL) of Rs. 1100 will be Extra"
