Got my new passport and Naturalization certificate back in separate mails today on the 9th business day since applying. Paid regular processing fee.

I applied for the passport at a local PostOffice on 11/20/2010 and today I got a status update that the processing has been finished and they mailed it to me via USPS Priority mail and included a delivery confirmation number. I expect to receive it by Friday.

Paid regular processing fee and about to get it in my hands in less that 2 weeks, I think that is really fast.

Some IO are just different than the others. I am sure you will get the oath letter soon. Best of luck.

I am glad you got letter shocked it took so long.

My husband had interview on the 15th sounds like that same interviewer.

Things he knew he passed were not checked on paper he got.

THe only thing he said he would have to review papers.

he wrote that hicham passed 6/6 but the sheet was not checked that he did.

He said the reading and written went fine except he might have mispelled washington he is not sure.

He asked alot of questions about relationship live together ever seperated work in same town as live

asked my kids names and ages

how many times he has been to morocco how many times i have been to morocco

Do i know his family and friends in morocco

if we live just the two of us

These all sound like greencard questions not citizenship i could be wrong.

THing is he just got his 10 year greencard so i dont see the bi deal

maybe it is just a st paul thing

I saw 3 get approved same day from fresno

I think the oath is the last step of all after passing the interview and getting the aprroval.

Every time she goes for an interview, they will make her swear by raising her right hand.

I am sure your state has a similar calendar published, search for it and you might be able to find it.

RECEIVED OATH LETTER Yesterday!!! Oath Date scheduled for August, 4th!!! My husband's interview was on the 15th of June.

For anyone reading this post and who will have their n-400 interview and gets a "decesion cannot yet be made" instead of "congratulations you've been recommended for approval"...doesn't always mean a bad thing!!

My husband and I think there wasn't approval right away based on

A) The officer really had to go over his whole file like he said.

B) The officer wasn't a high enough ranking officer and needed his supervisor's approval.

Or

C)Normal routine sometimes at St. Paul DO

Yes deffinetly the same guy who took my interview as well. He put his last name on the sheet that was provided to me. He did sound totally professional though during the interview.

I am planing to give the customer service a call after 90 days and go from there.

Looking at the Oath dates for the Twin Cites, they do not have one around here in next couple of months. On top of that, the Website mentions they only accommodate around 70 people in each oath day. So I am anticipating a long wait for the actual oath date when I do finally receive it, the cue is building up rather fast.

Are you going to call or write to the IO at 90 days?

The man that interviewed my husband was either HMong or Vietnamese and around 45 years old.

I have found a few people on VJ who had their interview in Minneapolis-St. Paul within the last couple of months who are still waiting for oath letter and or a decesion.

Again, looking at the Oath date schedule there were only a few dates for the whole summer. I think many of the judges go on vacation for summer. Than come september multiple dates are added.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised to find out the same officer conducted our interviews

My husband's N-400 interview was almost exactly like yours in st.paul-minneapolis! The only thing I I noticed different was your offier mentioned that this is a busy time of year and not to expect to hear from them before 120 days!!! I like how it was said notthing BEFORE 120 DAYS..but I bet they take their sweet time up until 120 days and then they will send some sort of letter, or else you can start to sue! Again, I think its how St. Paul DO operates or maybe newbies for officers?? lol.

FYI: cHeck out Mn state website for naturalization ceremony dates..some were cancelled for August...I don't think thats good=Less Oath letters sent out for July!~!!

I have the exact experience as yours during my Naturalization interview a month ago. I kinda knew that I was not going to be approved on the spot, because technically my green card was not 3 years old the day interview happened. Everything went normal except the approval part when he mentioned that he will review my file and follow up with me in the mail, either with a RFE or an Oath letter. I am still awaiting to hear anything from them.

As far as for the curious minds, why my interview happened before my 3 year green card anniversary? I applied about 90 days prior the anniversary and the process moved faster than 90 days.

I was wondering if people who had the same result after their N-400 interview would let me know how long it took till for approval or what happend.

I should mention some detail if it helps..

Our 1st experience with USCIS for I-485/I-130/ssn all went smoothly easy everything only taking 2mo. from the time we filed to the interview!!!(nov.06-jan 4th 07) Really that fast. PR card approved day of interview with stamp , lawyer was present and filed it. Also I should mention that his conditions on his PR card were already removed for over a year so he already has his 10yr GC(for about 1 1/2 yrs). Which the removal of condtions only took 2mos. to process.

So we filed March 17th and the interview was June 15th. The only items that were requested at the interview were (other than passport/PR card/id)was the last 3yrs of our tax transcripts that we had not included in the origianl filing of the N-400. The interview was basic he went over the application and my husband said he really didn't focus on any particular subject like my husbands unemployment from last year or his previous marriage. None of it was questioned by the officer. So he passed the history test and English test and the officer said congrats everything looks good I am just going to go over your file. Than he said you will here from us if I need anything from you. My husband than was handed a piece of paper that said

X passed the history test and English test

XYour appilcation has not yet been approved. A decision can not yet be made. USCIS will contact you..

Any ideas when this decision will be made? I have read some bad stories of how long people wait..is this true? He was so lucky with all other filings?

I have the similar experience, not necessarily I think of it as a problem (i have a post for my experience). So what I was not approved on the spot, does not mean that it was denied. I understand if they need little more time to review my case, all the cases are not the same. To me it is more like a mental game to them to test your toughness, perhaps.

Yes, I am delayed to become a citizen but I can put that fact behind when I finally become one. By the way, I think they are suppose to let you know decision within 120 days. I am just gonna stay put and do whatever I have been doing. If they send me a RFE I will comply otherwise they have no reason to deny, at least in my opinion.

So I completed my interview last week and wanted to share my experience with the wonderful folks here.

Me and wife went there about 10 minutes prior to the interview time. Usual screening and check-in process and got to the waiting room after dropping off the appointment letter in the bin. The IO was probably running a little behind so when he came out grabbed 2 of the applicants together which made me waiting in yet another smaller room while he was interviewing the person ahead of me.

Soon after it was my turn, I asked him if my wife could join us in the interview process, he said "Nope you are on your own from here". The officer checked my PR card and driver's license and I took the oath with my hand raised and took a seat. The IO was very polite and soft spoken, no extra friendliness nor anything unpleasant. I think he took my English/Civic test at the beginning. Asked me 6 questions:

1. What is the rule of law?

2. Which ocean borders the west coast?

3. What is the name of our national anthem?

4. What major event happened on September 11, 2001?

5. What do 13 stripes mean in the flag?

6. How many senators do we have?

After answering the questions successfully, he then move onto my application form and went over beginning to end verifying the provided information. He wrote down comments/made changes as we went. He noted down how many changes/remarks he made on the form. Made me sign/put my name in 3 different boxes in the N-400 form. Made me sign the attached photograph.

Then he moved on asking me what documents I have with me to prove that we are still together. At that point he asked me if the person came with me was my wife. This is a marriage based application based on 3 years of PR. I gave him our joint bank account statements,last 5 years joint tax file return transcripts, health insurance and auto insurance documents/bills, Lease agreement for our housing, phone bill and asked if anything else is needed. He was looking for our marriage certificate and couldn't locate it in the huge pile so I gave him a photocopy.

At the end of the interview, he said that he will need more time to review the file before he can make any decision. He also mentioned that this is the busy time so not to be worried if I don't hear anything from him before 120 days. "It will probably be 3 months before I can start reviewing your file" he stated looking at my face. I assured that I was not in any hurry so he can take his sweet time. He then mentioned, if he need any further documents he will send a request by mail otherwise the oath letter will be sent in 90 to 120 days. Gave me a piece of paper stating that I passed the required tests and also checked the option where it says: No decision could be made at this time(something like that).

I hope this helps. Not a writing person so forgive me if something is not making sense but do ask away and I will try to elaborate. I will update the thread when/if I have more info. In the mean time, good luck to all of us.

Agreed. I don't think I had more than 20 pages.

Its like giving your speech in 2 minutes with hitting the main points versus ranting and babbling for hours.. Who has that much of time! Gotta be efficient.

But again I do understand some cases are complected and might require more evidences.

17 pages, all together, including 3 pages of 3 photos each.

If I were the I.O. and somebody needs to send me 100 or more pages to show me that they are still married and living together, I suspect fraud or a mental problem, both of which are reason to concern.

I am also going to the interview without a new FP. Last time they took one was about a year ago and I am assuming they can still use those FP. I would not worry about your FP step, as you already got an interview date, which tells ya you are on the right track and successfully skipped the FP step. Good Luck to us.

It seems to vary quite a bit. There have been a number of VJers who have had recent biometrics for the ROC who did not have to re-do their biometrics for their Citizenship application - and no, they don't refund the biometrics fee - but there have also been some who have had their biometrics done in the same time frame who have been sent to have them re-done. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in the situation at all. So, go to the interview and explain you haven't had the biometrics, then see what they say. If they say the biometrics are still valid, then well and good. If not, then they can make the arrangements for you to get them done. I suspect if they have been done within 15 months of your interview (they are supposed to remain valid for 15 months) and you don't receive another biometrics letter, the existing ones are considered still valid and you are good to go.

Online case status has been updated saying: "Your case has been transferred to a local office and an interview will be scheduled. You will be sent a notice advising you of the date and time of your interview." Never got any letter for FP. I am a little confused!!

Is that normal. Last time I gave a FP was probably 11 months ago during my I-751 processing. Does this mean I am still in the processing pipeline smoothly or skipping the FP activity will cause me more pain down the road. Thanks for you inputs.
