  1. HI Everybody

I am writing this post to help others at their AOS interviews.

My husband came here from France and had all of his police clearances done before he went to his interview (K1) at the Paris Embassy. We thought that was the end of it.

There was a difficulty in obtaining his fingerprints for his EAD and AP. The machine could not read anything 2 times!

He finally received both of these documents after a long wait.

We just went to our AOS interview (in Philadelphia)....with all of our piles of papers and documentation to prove that we had a 'genuine' married life - that has only existed for less than 6 months. This was so stressful and my husband was a little nervous because of some french/english language difficulty.

We passed the interview - HOORAY!-and he was granted a 2 yr green card.

Before leaving the officer's desk, my husband wanted to clear up any problems with the fingerprinting.

The officer said "No...hold on! I am denying your petition and NOT granting you AOS!"

He said we needed to submit a state police clearance to verify no criminal activity between the time of my husband's entry into the US and the day of the interview. We wanted to cry! We said that we had already submitted French police clearances to the embassy and that we did not even know that we had to do something like this. What a shock!

So....I wanted to warn others to be FULLY prepared before the interview. Be prepared for the worst case scenario and all might go well :)

Better luck to the rest! Tanya

  2. yes...we just had the same experience there. if you cannot reach them by phone, go directly there on friday morning. the embassy is open for general public questions 9-11:30 without an appointment. make sure to get a business card with direct phone #! my fiancee arrived at 8:00am and he talked to someone at 8:30. when you speak to someone, tell them you are leaving aug. 5th and can you please pick up the visa at the embassy. you must call to get an appointment to return and pick it up. we just had this big mess and my fiancee finally got his paperwork yesterday - his flight is tomorrow! good luck

  3. Thanks for your advice :) My fiance was unable to reach the embassy by phone so he went there today as soon as they opened. It was open for general questions today only from 9- 11:30. He arrived at 8 and spoke to a man at 8:30! yay. The clerk told him his visa was not processed yet and it should have been and they had to locate it! He would check on it. My fiance then looked like Puss n Boots and told him he had a flight next week to get married...was there ANYTHING he could do??? The man said of course!! - it will be ready monday!! He gave him his own personal business card with phone extension if there was ANY problems. Nice guy! Glad he went in person :)

  4. Hi everyone...should we be worried if my fiance hasn't received his visa yet? He had his interview on June 24th in Paris and was approved. They told him it should arrive in 3-10 days. It is now day 14......should he go to the embassy and ask where it is?...before the paper trail gets buried?..or is this within normal waiting times.

    I appreciate any guidance :)

  5. he listed every single item so there would be no confusion with the officers or trying to hide anything. but if he had ten towels or pencils etc...he just put the number beside it. he listed each dvd/cd/book/ title individually though, this is what he was told to do by the shipping company...and taped each list securely to each box... make a second copy of the list, also for your own records.

  6. Hi - I would appreciate anyone's help with this question as I can't remember where I read this subject. My fiance is the one who is immigrating...but do I only have a certain amount of time to change my last name on my passport once we are married? I know I need to change it sometime, but do I need to do it quickly for his AOS? thanks for any answers :)

  7. my fiance just shipped his stuff from France. He has tons of stuff....dvd..cds... the shipper said to make sure none of it is new or in wrappers/boxes so he does not appear to be some type of importer or business. he made an exact list of each box's items for immigration officers. I can't help you with the Uhaul...except I have seen trucks from Canada. :)

  8. my fiance went to his medical in Paris about a week before his interview. the Dr asked to see his vaccination records since birth ...to determine what was necessary. he needed 3 shots that were not up to date. Dr listened to chest, looked in eyes, ears & throat....nothing else really. He read an eye chart. Went to two other offices on the same street and had an x-ray and blood samples taken. He said it did not take very long.

  9. Hi...I don't know where to post this question?

Does anyone know the procedures about moving the foreign fiance or spouse's belongings to the US?

To be specific...if their belongings are shipped via air, must we pay any kind of fee to immigration at the airport POE..or tax? and will the boxes be inspected individually - just like the luggage? do we have to wait several days to get them...or must we pick it up immediately upon arrival at the airport?

we are confused about some services that are provided in France (french companies) and what situations might not be mentioned upon arrival in the US.

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

  10. wow...what a train wreck :(

a honeymoon is what you make of it...it can be the worst trip of your married life...or the most romantic and memorable one.

we face this same situation...and are throwing caution to the wind....going someplace I wouldn't consider in a million years. Nashville. Not for country music...but for the food and gorgeous mountain scenery...and art - something we both love.

just my opinion...I'd postpone going to any southern/eastcoast beaches for a while :S

  11. I agree with Justine+David.... I don't care how much it costs. I'd pay anything. Once I am married, I don't want to have to stand there crying my eyes out at the airport- not knowing when we'll see each other again. I don't know how military wives do it :(

I look at it this way...instead of spending tons of money on a wedding dress or reception...I'm investing it in the man I love.
