Hi All,
I hope you can shed some light on this for me.
I got my NOA last week. My packet was accepted on March 4 which was nice.
In the NOA there was a receipt number (EAC-XX-XXX-XXXX) but when I enter that into the USCIS website it says:
- Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.
I've tried calling but it is automated and when I enter my EAC, which they tell me to quote every time I contact USCIS, it says they do not have a record of my case.
Has this happened to anyone else who has filed in March or is it just me?
I posted this to another forum and a chap said the case number will be included on the biometrics letter. But this doesn't sound right to me. Why would there be different receipt numbers?
Thanks and I hope I haven't worried anyone.

Sorry, what's an LOA?
It says on the letter to quote your "receipt number" (it begins EAC-XX-XXX-XXXXX) but remove hyphens when typing it in.
I've done that on phone and website but it says I'm not in the system!!
It's bizarre.

Hi,
So I filed my i-751 at the end of February but it arrived in Vermont on the 4th March.
I got my letter last week which was nice.
I haven't received a request for Biometrics yet but I understand it can take up to 30 days from acceptance.
My concern is with the USCIS website and telephone number. When I went to the USCIS website, to check if it has been accepted and entered my receipt number this comes up:
- Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.
I've called the number, it's all automated and it says the exact same thing! Apparently I am not in the system which is concerning me greatly
Is this normal? I want to get my biometrics done as soon as possible because my wife and I will be leaving the country for 8 weeks around the end of May.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I'd be very grateful.
Thanks.

Hi,
So my wife and I made it to two years and I have filed my i-751 to remove conditions.
My 2 year green card expires at the end of this month and I know it will take probably until the end of the year for my new one to arrive.
However, my wife and I both work in Europe for 2 months every summer (that's how we met) and we'll be leaving at the end of May.
How does it work? Last year when my wife and I were going through Heathrow airport, the customs man asked to see my greencard, this time it will be expired, will he want to see the letter?
When we are coming back at the end of July, my greencard will be expired and I'll have the letter, will they allow me in on my expired Greencard and the letter saying that it's been extended for a month?
I've heard talk of an i-551, do I need that in my passport? If so, how do I get one?
I'm just nervous about going both ways. We have both worked so hard for me to get the greencard but we both have to head back to Europe for work issues, we're wondering should she go it alone because We don't want me to have to head back to UK and start again for some silly reason.
Thanks,
F.

Here's a complicated one.
I'm an Irish citizen born in Northern Ireland. My parents got me my first Irish passport when I was 16 and I've had one ever since. Being born in Northern Ireland, I'm allowed to have either an Irish or British Passport.
However, over the years, I have wanted to get a British Passport, it is just something I feel more identification with.
I moved to the USA in September 2011 on a Fiance visa with an Irish passport, got my 2 year green card in March 2012 and will be applying for my 10 year one within the next year.
However, I want a British passport. Do you think it would be possible to renounce my Irish Passport and get a British one before or after my 10 year green card. Or is this something the Immigration services would consider suspect and make me reapply for everything again. I don't want to rock the boat.
What are your thoughts?

Hi,
So I got my Greencard a few weeks back. Thank goodness and thank you to everyone here for their help.
Thing is, my wife and I are heading back to Europe to do a bit of work, visit my family and my attend my nephews christening. Then we are taking an overdue honeymoon.
We'll be back in August.
Am I allowed now to come and go as I please into the USA (providing it is less than 12 months).
We're planning on being out of the USA for 3 months, do I need to alert the authorities that we are doing this? Thing is there is nothing in my passport that says I am approved, I have my 2 year permanent resident card (green card) but as I was not invited to interview, there was no stamp in my passport other than my K1 visa which allowed me to enter in September 2011.
Again, many thanks for all your help.

If you already received your EAD then your GC is approved. The interview can be waived for K-1 entrants. If you haven't received the EAD, then the card production is the EAD.
I received my EAD in January.. So will my GC allow me to travel in and out of the US without getting an advance parole. My sister is due to give birth in a few weeks time and I would like to go to the Christening?
Many thanks for your help in all this. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
So I got asked for a RFE a few weeks back, see timeline, I provided my wife's tax returns from the IRS. I checked on the USCIS website, they said they received them and will write to me if they needed fingerprints or an interview.
I had already provided biometrics in December so my wife and I began to gather together all relevant documents/photographs etc for the interview.
I checked today and it says that they are producing my card and it will be with me in 30 days?
Is this a mistake? We both are very confused.
Many thanks as always.

You need to go here and order tax transcripts for the requested year. It should take about one week for them to arrive. Get the transcripts for 2009, 2010 amd 2011 if you have filed this year. Otherwise wait unitl after you file and request 2011 to take to the interview, if you have one. They do want copies of this years, 2011, W-2s if you have not filed taxes for 2011. So I would give them what they want which is a tax transcript for 2010, 2011 if you have filed or copies of the W-2s for this year. This would be a good time to file your 2011 taxes. (I would still ask for 2009 transcripts and take that to an interview should you have one)
Good luck,
Dave
Thanks Dave.. Tax returns requested..

Apologies, I used the wrong code on a previous post for this.
I received the following request for further evidence. Initially, my wife and I had included tax returns with the completed form. But then we got this today, and we are completely confused.
Any ideas?
"The Petitioner is to submit the following:
AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT - FORM I-864: In Conjunction with the I-864 on file you are to submit copies from the Internal Revenue Service, Tax Transcripts for 2010 and 2011 if available.
(Do not submit duplicate copies of the I-864 or 1040's)
If the petitioner has not filed taxes she is to submit a copy of his W-2"
-
What does the RFE ask for specifically? You need to include what they ask for and without knowing that we cannot really give you any meaningful advice. Maybe if you tell us what the RFE says we can be of more help.
Until then it is just a guess on our part. My guess is that you need to fill out form I-864 and include all evidence listied like tax transcripts, letter from her employer and such to show that she indeed does make more than the 125% above the poverty level and is willing to repay the US government should you get any mean tested benefits before working 40 quarters, or becoming a USC, or dying, or if she dies (this is what the I-864 for is for), but this is just a guess.
Dave
Thanks Dave, it says:

So I got an RFE for my adjustment of status.
It asks for more evidence for the i-484 document. Initially, my wife and I signed the form, attached her tax records (she earns well over the thresholds) and included it in the pack.
Were we supposed to contain a cover letter for this document? If so, what should it say? Is there an example that we could base this on? I couldn't find any information in the guides section.
Many thanks as always for your support and guidance.

Drat, double drat and further drat..
After successfully getting the EAD and the Fiancee visa to get into the country without lawyers or attorneys, we were changing status and says we are getting a RFE in the post soon.
We posted off the packet in November. Problem is, we were hoping to get back to Europe in May, my sister is due to give birth in April and we want to be there for the Christening.
Does the RFE considerably delay the process for the i-485? The average time is 4 months for the AOS at the service centre so I was kind of hoping to get everything out of the way by end of April.. Does the RFE mean that my packet is now back to the start of the queue?
Really annoyed by this and it was probably something trivial that I forgot to include.
Thanks

Great stuff.. many thanks.

Hi,
Hoping someone can help with the following. I sent off all my adjustment of status forms and fee etc to the drop box in Chicago in mid November.
No worries. I gave my biometrics in Miami in December
A week or so later I received a letter saying my case was transfered to California.
I received my EAD a week ago. Great stuff.
My question is, when my wife and I get called for interview, will we have to go to California or will the interview be in Miami? Also, does anyone have any rough indication about the time. I'm due to head home to Ireland in May as my sister is about to give birth.
Many thanks for your help as per usual.

You don't have a copy of it, either hardcopy or a scanned one?
If not, look at it this way: A new one(replacement from USCIS) costs 405 dollars. If you spend two hours looking for it in those boxes you'll be saving approx 200 dollars an hour. Happy search : )
Found it.. woo hoo.. we nearly killed each other looking for it, but we found it in the end... Why she still has receipts and instructions for a Super Nintendo I have no idea..

The NOA2 (called the form I-797) is sent to the petitioner in the US. That is the approval of the I-129F. Photocopy it, and send it along with your AOS.
Oh boy.. that's going to be a tough one. My fiancee (now wife) has since moved house and all the paperwork is in a box buried under another box.. is it really essential that this is sent or could I get away with not sending it... I have everything else, I even got a new medical carried out today..
These things are really sent to test us aren't they.

Thanks,
I got letters from the US Embassy in London saying:
"Dear Mr <my name>
We are pleased to inform you that we have received an approved petition in support of your fiance or K3/4 visa application. You now need to complete appropriate forms and collect required documents. A detailed explanation of the process is found at: http://london.usembassy.gov........
It goes on, but I received nothing in the UK from USCIS. Just letters from the US Embassy in London.
Any ideas?

Dear all,
Many thanks for convincing me not to get an atourney. I do believe I am saving a fortune doing this myself although my BP and stress levels are through the roof.
Quick question, on the guides on this website, (www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos) step five says that:
K-1 Visa Holders: submit copy of NOA2 "approval" for I-129f
What is this and where do I find it? That is the only missing piece of the jigsaw, I want to get this off asap and this is the only thing holding me back.
Many thanks as always you fantastic people, I may have given this up a long time ago without your help and support.

Hi,
So I made it into the US in the middle of September and after waiting in a room for a number of hours in Miami airport, they finally processed my package and admitted me into the country. When the agent was chatting to me, he said I had to get married within 90 days of entering the country and once I did, I was to present my wedding certificate to a local immigration office to allow me to stay. He made it very clear, that they would not come looking for me to see if I got married, but would expect me to present the certificate to the local immigration office.
So, we got married last week (well within 90 days) and after checking the forums on this, it appears that the advice offered here is to fill in a number of forms and send them away to Chicago. I'm really rather confused and am thinking of spending all my savings which I brought over here on a lawyer to do everything even though I don't want to as people seem to do this all the time and have no problems. It is just very conflicting advice.
Please help

So I have the visa form in my passport, I have the sealed brown envelope. I have the CD. I have my one way ticket to the states booked for Monday.. Why am I terrified?
Have I forgotten something? During the interview, I didn't provide a form which detailed my fiancées income (I-864). The chap interviewing me said it was okay as my fiancée is a professor at a major university and would have no problem financially sponsoring me for the time being. Will the person at at the airport be aware of this and will they let me in?
It says on the London embassy site where I went for interview: http://london.usembassy.gov/i864.html
What about the fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen who is applying for a fiancé(e) visa?
An I-864 is not required when applying for a fiancé(e) visa. An I-864 will be required at the time the fiancé(e) visa holder applies to adjust his or her status from nonimmigrant to conditional resident with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS).
Grateful for any advice or input as this is keeping me awake at night.
thanks

Thanks for the help. Miami airport it is then.

Finally got my visa, there were issues with my health which had to be ironed out before I was issued one.
Anyway, fiancée lives in southern Florida, but someone gave me the advice that it is best to fly into Newark as they can issue a temporary work permit for 90 days until you get get married and apply for residence status, whereas Miami cannot. Does anyone know if this is true? Is it best to fly into Newark for this purpose?

Could someone please give me a definitive list of everything I need to bring to an interview in London? I have got so much conflicting information from people that my head is melted.
What I have so far:
Police certificate
Long birth certificate
payment of $330
Letter of invitation for interview
What am I missing?
