Good thread info, thank you...but my wife is from Germany (we were married on July 29th 2005) and she had no income at all in germany or here in the USA. She got her social security # in Nov 2005 and EAD. I am filing married/jointly for 2005...but can I claim her as a dependent since she had no job and was here in the USA since May 2005? I thought I could, but it (TurboTax) says my dependent (my wife) cannot have the same social security number as my spouse and is an "error". Should I just drop her as a dependent and file my taxes without this?
Confused, and I did search before posting here...cant find anything about this.

www.pingo.com...cheap, pretty clear and tracks your calls online which you can use as proof! Used it for the past 2 years not many problems either...

Alcurin - My wife has been in the USA since May 2005, she did not work in Germany where she is from and did not work here in the USA. We got married on July 29th 2005 and she got her SSN# in Nov 2005. When in Turbo Tax I claimed her as a dependent - it said my spouse cannot have the same SSN as the dependent (her). How do you do this for your spouse and is it possible? (I assume it is, since you said you have done it for the past 2 years). Thanks!
