You need to think of the PI like the USA.. I grew up in Iowa and you can't find grits and collared greens and stuff like that common in the South... So,, even thought there are basic Filipino foods that are common to all Filipinos.. Some are local. My wife is from Zamboanga by the ocean. She has been here 6 months,,, and we can get several fish and leafy vegetables that she likes here,,, but, even though we have large Asian food stores here with maybe a dozen different fish, a full butcher section and large section of vegetables, fruits, etc,,, Still can't get Manila Mangos, New Coconut, etc... But, she does not complain,,, just knows what she is missing,,
Bottom Line Your Mileage Will Vary, no matter where you go in this world,,, something will be missing. I suspect.. She would give up Filipino food, if she could have her mother here.
Regards,
Right, same here.. I'd give up Filipino foods for my mom

My wife arrived earlier this year from the Philippines and we've gladly sent some money to her family on a few occasions. Now she wants to send amounts that don't fit comfortably into our budget. If I give in, we'll be in financial ruins and if I don't, my wife raises a stink about it. I see this as a serious problem. Has anyone had similar issues - and perhaps some good resolutions?
well, please try to look into your budget first. I and my husband have talked about this matter the day we first met, hmnn that was 6 years ago. My family is not his obligation and they doesn't expect anything from him either. Way back home, I was the bread winner when I was still single but I quit job last year so I try to make ends meet with whatever I have in my pocket. Budget everything. In my humble opinion, I won't ask my husband to send funds to my family if I know we are tight. I just hope your wife understands your situation, too. No offense meant. Thanks

Hello all! Been awhile since I got myself back here VJ..I'm back!
I grew up in Leyte, but transferred Negros Occidental when I was 14. My mother is from Leyte and my father is from Negros, so I actually go back and forth
I've got happy and wonderful memories in those two places. I loved them equally.
I live in Snohomish, Washington with my loving, sweet and fun hubby. He grew up and stayed here since birth. He loves Washington obviously and am loving it too!
hey,I'm from Leyte,too ..

Hi.. Its my first time to travel to the US on the 23rd of this month and I'm alone on this flight. My itinerary would be from Manila,Phils( 4:55 PM- Vancouver,Can ( 12:50 PM) then from Canada( 2:21 PM ) to Chicago ( 8:20 PM).. From Chicago ( 9:10 PM) to Cincinnati ( 11:23 PM) .. I and my husband is worried that I could not go through customs in Vancouver and/or Chicago because of the time constraints.. Any tip or advise as a first time traveler you could give me, that would help a lot. Thank you.
