  1. Agree with the previous posters. Shouldn't be an issue but if it does come up -- usually in the form of "Have you ever been denied a US visa before? Why? -- just answer truthfully.

Oh thats great guys, thanks a lot for the advise! Can resume breathing normally now!

  2. Hi All,

My wife's CR-1 interview in Mumbai is on July 1st and I am getting a bit worried about how much detail the CO will go into regarding her previous visit visa app to the US a year ago.

After our very first meeting and deciding we want to marry each other back in July 2009 she was schedulled to appear at US embassy for an interview for a visit visa. The reason she stated in the app was to visit a family friend for a few weeks (actually to meet my parents/get blessings before we actually got married). Well, she went to the interview and the officer didnt even see the i-134 or our other supporting docs. She was quicly denied due to no strong family ties in the US and no strong financial/job ties to Canada, where she was studying. WIll the CO at the Mumbai interview ask many questions regarding this? We were not married at the time so her status was not spouse or relative.

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

  3. I have used my name on the I130 forms as per my current passport, so i will not be able to change my passport like that due to the names used. Can you tell me how do you generate a false RFE ? How can i show them the NVC checklist ? Can u give a link or something for that.

Is there any way to get the passport clearance certificate without changing my passport ?

    Thank you.

This fourm discussion will help you understand the flase RFE many people get: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/217497-what-is-the-false-rfe-at-ds230/

As far as changing names my wife simply had to add my name under "Name of Spouse" on the last page of her Indian passport. Everything else remained the same. Yes you can apply for just the PCC at Ahmedabad with the NVC checklist and the other docs I mentioned above. FOr some reason I still dont understand the representative helping my wife at the time wanted her to apply for a brand new passport. Maybe he wanted the Rs. 2000! Anyone who went thru Ahmedabad passport office please let us know if you were allowed to get just the PCC or had to apply for a brand new passport?

    Thsnks

  4. What happened was that my wife had to get a new Aassport because she found out that there was an error in her father's name.

Did you add your spouses name to your Passport? There's a line all the way to the end page of the Indian Passport that reads: Spouse's name.

The first time my wife went to get the PCC, they asked why husband's name was not added. And that she needed to add my name to get the PCC. Second time she went, they said they needed the letter from NVC. Third time, they took it because the officer who refused the first 2 times was on vacation and it was a woman officer. But there were holidays around that time, so tehy delayed the process. Then my wife went again to find out the status and the application wasn't even registered in the system yet. That's how the government is in Gujarat. So She asked them to register everything right there and then and then they did her background check, and asked for witnesses for residance proof. And that's how it went.

So yes, my wife was able to get the PCC without NVC letter. But she only needed Passport/Regional PCC. She didn't have to get the District/Local PCC because her Passport was not more than 6 months old.

About completing the case, it depends on NVC. If they do say that it's ok to submit the PCC at the time of interview, ask them to send you an email or something in writing.

My wife had similar issues with the Ahmedabad Passport office. She had to visit them 3 times before they would accept all the necessary documents. The guy working there wanted her to apply for a brand new passport with my name as spouse added so we paid Rs. 2000 via the TATKAL method (expedited sservice). We received the new passport with passport police cert attacehd within 4 business days.

    Necessary documents for us were:

-NVC checklist (any damn NVC checklist should work as long as it has the barcode and the applicants name on it, we used a false RFE for the DS-230 required)

    -Original marriage certificate

    -Indian passport photos 2-3

-local police cert issued form her district police off.

-marriage affidavit notarized (they gave her a blank affidavit to fill out on her second visit)

I believe that is all they required but it may help to keep your PAN card, drivers license, ration card, voters card, etc. with you.

The hardest part is the dam long wait in line at the passport office. Otherwise if you have all of these docs ready then they will take them and issue you a tracking number to check the status of your new passport. I was amazed at how she received her new passport.

  5. Hi Fellow Mumbai Interviewees,

My wife's CR-1 interview has been schedulled for July 1, 2010 and am preparing our documents. I have completed all of my processing via NVC and have paid all fees in USD. Will she need to pay any fees at the Mumbai Embassy on interview day? I am hearing about a $131 demand draft for K-1 visas and Rs. 16,100 visa fee etc. Can anyone familiar with the process let me know?

Also does my wife need to submit any documents to the VFS Ahmedabad or Mumbai prior to the interview? The NVC has all of our originals except for the passport PCC, which she will walk in to the interview. I have no written instructions from the NVC about any of this so I am now confused.

Thanks in advance for the advise.

  8. Hey Guys,

I just spoke to the NVC regarding progress on my case. They informed me that as of yesterday (May 11th) you do not need to worry about submitting a Local PCC in order to complete NVC processing. The Mumbai embassy is no longer requiring the local PCC. Just bring in the Passport Office PCC at the interview. Please verify this at your end and also let them know to speed up your processing as well. Good Luck!

  9. Hi sachinky

Shes in Vidyanagar, Gujarat. There is only one guy in charge at that station and he is a real pain in the you know what...

Where's she getting her PCC from?

When I got mine from Calcutta, a copy of my marriage certificate and a copy of my husband's passport were all that was needed.

  10. Hi All,

My wife just went in to the local police station to apply for a PCC (local and passport office version) and they are being really rude to her. They demand an original marriage cert. to apply for the PCC. She gave them a copy but the officer said he cannot take this as evidence. I thought the PCC was to verify that my wife has no criminal record within that city/country, and not to verify the she is my wife!

I wouldn't have any problem providing the original MC but it is with the NVC and I dont think I can just ask them for send it back! To apply for a new cert. will take 2-3 weeks! Do any of you have and suggestions? This will delay the interview date by 2 months at least! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  11. A guide to the DS230 packet for Indian beneficiaries.

--Cover sheet for Immigrant Visa Bill of $400.

--Two (2) Passport Size Photographs of Beneficiary (Beneficiary's full name, and date of birth are written on back of both).

--DS-230 Part 1 completed and signed by beneficiary.

--DS-230 Part 2 completed by beneficiary, unsigned, as of yet, per instructions.

    --Original Marriage certificate

    --Photocopy of Marriage Certificate

    --Original Birth Certificate

    --Photocopy of Birth Certificate

--Original Police Clearance Certificate from Local Police Station, Calcutta

--Original Police Clearance Certificate from Regional Passport Office, Calcutta

    --Photocopy of beneficiary's Indian passport.

    Sachinky,

Will I need to submit originals of birth/marriage certs. to the NVC or can my wife bring it with her to the interview in Mumbai? I am a little concerned about sending originals of anything to a government office! Thanks!

  12. Hi All,

Im at the NVC stage of my CR-1 for my wife and will be receiving the DS 230 cover sheet soon to submit to the NVC. I would like to know what the NVC is looking for in this packet. Should I include everything I sent with the original I-130 packet (passport copies, birth cert, passport photos, marriage cert, wedding and honeymoon pics)? For those that are interviewing at Mumbai consulate, what are they looking for in this packet? Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Sid

  13. Hi All,

Im getting ready to submit 2009 tax documents but am not sure as to which box I should check: Single or Married filing separately. I married my wife in 2009 but she lives in India and has no SSN and is not working. Our I-130 petition is currently at the NVC stage and am wondering if the consulate will question why I filed as single in 2009.

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    soza

  14. How did you answer question #22 on the I-130?

If your relative is not eligible for adjustment of status, he or she will apply for a

visa abroad at the American consular post in: __________________________

Since your wife is not in the US (and unable to adjust status) she will interview in a post abraod, I believe in your case it will be India since she is not currently living, working, or studying in Canada.

You posted this on the K-3 forum, the K-3 is administrativly dead

    Good luck.

Hummmm..... It appears I answered that question as N/A and the American consular post in:_______ part blank. I was assuming that entire question did not apply to me. I hope this does not delay my processing as I have not yet received any RFE's. I listed her old Toronto address in the I-130 so it is advisable to request an address change for my beneficiary? Will it delay the approval?

    Thank again!

  15. Hi All,

Ive been searching VJ for an answer to my question but cannot find specific info for my situation. My non-USC wife and I (im a USC) got married in Toronto, Canada but she is a citizen of India and currently living in India. I filed the I-130 for my wife via the Calif Service Center back in September 2009. If I get approved, which US embassy/consulate will the NVC forward my case to? Canada or India? If it is Canada is it advisable to change the embassy to one in Inda since that is where she currently is?

Ive been getting different answers form the NVC and USCIS customer service.

    Appreciate all your help!

    Sid
