  1. I just called a panel physician in my area, who does the medical for only $120. I made Sean an appointment for Tuesday the 9th, because we have to get the forms back to CSC by the 27th of Novemember- which is a SATURDAY the week of Thanksgiving! What a silly deadline!

Weren't you able to get a copy from Dr. Seiden?

  2. I had my interview yesterday and was asked similar questions as all of the other posters. I wasn't asked to swear an oath. There was one question that kind of weirded me out though. I had mentioned that I was pushing for us to relocate to upstate New York or Vermont after my fiancee graduates. The woman laughed and said close to Canada. Several minutes later after asking other questions, she said "How do I know you are serious about moving to the United States. I mean I hear you talking about upstate New York and Vermont...", or something to that effect.

I can't even remember what I said, but I thought of a million good answers after the fact. In general, the woman was very pleasant, thorough, and doing her job. It's really nothing to worry about, but check the list of example questions, read through your forms and documentation, and relax and be honest.

  3. The Health insurance companies are pure scumbags, plain and simple. Nothing in the watered down health care bill will substantially change anything. You can look forward to things like 10K per annum deductibles which means your insurance is useless. My fiancee only has hers because it is mandatory for her school. She never actually bothers to file a claim. If you are indigent, the hospitals usually write off major expenses or cut a deal with you.

  4. Congratulations to MSR!

I'm headed to Montreal in the early morning. I lived above the St. Lawrence bakery across from Schwartz's in the late eighties, and have only been back once since 1990. Hopefully, all is going to go well and I'll have a couple of hours to check some old haunts...

  5. Big congratulations to you both!

Out of curiosity, for what time did you guys schedule your interviews? I foolishly scheduled mine for 9:00am, and according to the "rules", I shouldn't arrive before 8:30am...

We both got there early - I was there 6:50, Canadiandggal arrived next at 7:00. When the doors opened at 7:30, there were still only 4-5 people in line.

  6. First off, congratulations to all the recent approvals.

I'm probably going to stay at La Tour across the road (a rip off, but convenient), and since my fiancee is in school, I will be taking the train by myself from London, ON. I'm going down the day before and returning the same day of the interview.

The question is: Does anyone know where I can put my cell phone and suitcase while I am at the interview? Are there storage lockers nearby? Any idea what is the latest I'll be out of the embassy?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  7. Had my appointment with Dr. Seiden's Toronto office this morning. Got there late (7:45) and was still out of there in under two hours. Friendly and fast. Does anyone know if he gives you an extra copy of the vaccination form (DS-2032, I believe)?

  8. Find a credit Union. They can do everything banks can, but guess what they are not for profit. SO cheaper! Loan rates, monthly fees, everything, and alot of times if they make money over the year they give you, the member, a portion of that back at the end of the year!

Any idea if credit unions in the USA have an umbrella organization so you can do banking away from home? Or better yet, do you know of any good links about credit unions in the US?

  9. No offense Kimbear, but the OP was talking about filing US taxes. Canadian taxes are not considered at all when it comes to I-364 / I-864...

My fiancee is a full-time student, so I'm interested in the answer to this as well.

  10. Bank of America is not that great. The overdraft fees are $35 per transaction. If you have more than one outstanding transaction, they will apply them so as to maximize the overdraft fees. If you track your account line, transactions disappear for a while between pending and being committed. This means your balance can be radically different than what shows. Some transactions will take days to move from a placeholder amount ($1) until the real amount shows up. Restaurant tips can take up to 2 weeks to show up. They put unreasonable holds on cheques that are clearly valid (student loans, etc.). I will be looking for an alternative upon my arrival--maybe a credit union.

  11. I'm wondering about original documents for the interview in Montreal and looking forward to the AOS. The scumbag lawyer that we needlessly hired claims that he sent all of the original documents for our evidence of relationship to the USCIS with our I-129F. I know Montreal never asks, but is the copy of our 129 okay if they do? What about for the AOS? Is there a way to get them back?

Certified copies of my fiance's divorce, and the original only copy of the settlement of her second divorce were sent as well. Are the copies OK? Even if they are, we will need to solve the issue in order to get married! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Just when you think everything is lined up and under control...
