  1. I think that you should prepare for and expect the worst outcome. You have a week to begin mentally preparing yourself for this. It sounds as though there is nothing more to be done.

I don't mean this in a callous way, but I wouldn't put my bet on him being there in time for a wedding in a week.

However, I do think he'll get the visa, arrive in the US and marry you. Time will pass, and you'll find that what really matters is that he got here and you got married, and not so important that he was late. So yes, everything is going to be OK.

You aren't callous, it's realistic and you've put things into perspective. I just feel terrible since 75% of our guests are from out of town. And they will be out money because of this. I can handle the financial loss on our part, it's our guests I am concerned about...

  2. Hello, thank you all your responses. I contacted the embassy in Amsterdam last nifty and they said they mailed the police certificate on Thursday. And thy it wasn't the first time they did this either! So the London embassy lost the thing. Anyways, good news is that they have confirmed receipt of the file and said he is in the final stages of processing. How long has it been taking for visas to get processed recently? Do you think we will be okay?

  3. Hi,

My fiance had his interview on June 2nd and he was approved pending the physical receipt of his Dutch police certificate. The problem is that they requested the certifcate eight weeks ago and we sent him his full dutch address twice. And four weeks ago, we called to ask if they had the police certificate and they said yes, everything was in order. So imagine his shock and surprise when they said they still needed the certificate. They said that the computer says that his police certifcate was received by the dutch embassy and it was all good but they still needed the physical copy and that they just needed a fax of it too. So not sure what the hold-up is??

Anyways - my wedding is on June the 12th of this year. Which is next weekend. I don't think the visa will be ready in time so do you guys have any suggestions on how we can get him into the country?? I was wondering if the embassy would give him back his passport and if he could hop over here on a tourist visa and we pretend to get married , i.e. just have a commitment ceremony but not officially get married. Have our pretend honeymoon and then have him fly back to the UK to wait patiently for this phantom police certificate? Is that possible? Has anyone experienced something similar?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  4. Hi,

My fiance had his interview yesterday, June 2nd at the London embassy. They told him everything was in order except his Dutch police certificate, which was shocking to us cause we had called them four weeks ago asking if they had the Dutch Police Certificate and they said yes. They told him that they had confirmation of the certificate on their computers but that they needed a hard copy before they would issue the visa. They said even a fax would do. Which is incredibly frustrating since they told us they had it and if it's just a fax and the Dutch embassy already said that he's okay why can't they just fax the dang thing. What makes this whole experience especially heartbreaking is that my wedding is on June 12th. And from reading this forum, it looks like it is highly unlikely that he will make it.

I was wondering would the embassy be willing to give his passport back so he can come to America on a tourist visa. We have the celebration and NOT officially get married, and he scoots back to the UK after the honeymoon to wait patiently for the phantom certificate to show up and get his visa stamped. IS that possible?? I'm desperate here. The worst part is that no one at the embassy seems to empathize at all with our situation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  5. A letter that specifically says it's a 6 month contract won't help you much though. You're proving that you can support the immigrant until they become a citizen, which won't happen in 6 months. A co-sponsor is an important thing to consider because you need to demonstrate long term stability.

Thanks! So would the co-sponsor just have to fill out the I-134 form and send in all their information?

  6. Hi Everyone,

I'm moving back to the states and bringing my fiance over with me. Along with the move, I have secured a 6 month contract as an IT consultant with an old client of mine. Now, since I don't have old tax returns with my contracting status, would I need to get a co-sponsor? Or is it okay if I just show my old tax returns with my old job and evidence of the new contract, i.e. letter from client, and pay stubs.

    Thanks in advance!

    Lisa

  7. Best source of info for this is the Embassy website. Here are the instructions for next steps for the K1: K1 next steps The forms are in a text box on the upper right hand side of the page.

    Good luck! :star:

    Thanks!!

You may find some benefit from the following thread (in the UK forum). Lots of information specific to London posted and several external links.

  8. A woman who changed names with marriage, often needs the previous marriage certificate to track name changes but not always. The issue comes up when Mary Smith marries her current husband, Mr. Williams. She has a divorce decree for divorcing Mr Smith but there's no way to connect her to the Mary Jones on her birth certificate. That's where the marriage certificate showing Mary Jones married Mr. Smith.

For this purpose a copy will be fine but if you have an original certified copy I'd take both with you.

So would I need a previous marriage certificate for my male fiance then? Or is the divorce certificate sufficient?

  9. Hi All,

We just got our NOA2 approved today and we've been a bit stressed as we stupidly scheduled our wedding for June 12th in the US. So to keep this process moving along and ensure that we don't cause any unnecessary delays, I was hoping someone could send me an example checklist that the London Embassy sends in Packet 3. Much appreciated!!
