Hello VJers:
My husband is not behaving well towards me. He obtained his CR1 green card on May 25,2011.
If he wants to get the ten year green card I have we have to file in February 2013.
I don't think my marriage to him will work out, how do I make sure that he does not get
a green card through his marriage to me. He keeps telling me that he will leave me and
file an abuse claim, he said that if he does that then he can stay in the country without
my assistance. We have a six month old son. He told me that he speaks to a lot of
people and he always threatens me that there is nothing I can do to send him back to
Nigeria. How do I make sure that I am ten steps ahead of this guy, and what should
I do to make sure he does not use me? If we get a divorce can he still get his
permanent green card? Please advise.. Thanks a lot......

Hello I would like to know if my husband applies for government benefits such as food stamps
will this affect his green card application when it is time for removal of conditions? My husband
lost his job and we want to know if we can apply for government benefits because I heard a rumor
saying that the United States does not want anyone to be a public charge. Please if anybody
knows about this issue, let me know before we make the decision to apply. We did not apply yet,
we are just thinking about it, because we don't want to do anything to jeopardize our Removal of
Conditions application. Thanks fellow VJERs.

I am happy for you that administrative processing is complete. We have been there for 4 months so I know it's not easy. GOOD LUCK on the rest of your journey.
CONGRATS:)

You can use the social security card for all of the things you mentioned. After you obtain your green card you can go back to the Social Security Office
and have the wordings removed. The words are until you obtain your green card. The numbers STAY the same. GOOD LUCK!

It sounds GOOD to me. They would not ask someone to come from a far distance to give
that person bad news. GOOD LUCK!!!!

My husband and I had the AOS interview today. It went well, were in and out in about ten minutes. The interviewer just asked me two questions:
When did we married and how we have met? That was it. She stamped his passport and said the green card will arrived within two to six
weeks. I want to thank everyone for their advice!!!!!

I was born in Nigeria but I am a US citizen. Do I need to obtain a birth certificate for the interview? Thanks
-
Hello Vjers:
My husband and I have an interview on April 15. The interview letter states that the petitioner which is me has to bring in their birth certificate and government issued ID. I have misplaced my
birth certificate and do not have a government ID. Will I have any problem entering the building without a government ID? I also use my United States passport as
proof of my US citizenship and proof of birth. Is my passport better than a government ID? Does my husband have to get a government ID too? Is it a must that
the petitioner attend the interview with the beneficiary? All the people who have attending the AOS interview please give us advice. I would really appreciate your tips and information.
Thank you so much......

Hello. I am sorry about your AP but I can tell you from personal experience
that it is a background check. My husband was in AP for four months and
later recieved his visa sucessfully. I would suggest you call the Department
of State and check the status of your case. You can call them everyday if
you like, their number is 202-663-1225. I believe you press 1 and then O for
a visa specialist. Remember an AP is not a denial. I wish you all the luck
and I am sure you will be fine. ALL THE BEST:)

USCIS will send you the EAD card. GOOD LUCK.....

Our case was also in AP at the Lagos embassy too. My husband's interview was December 31, 2009 and he recieved his visa
sucessfully on June 30, 2010. An AP decision is not a denial it is just a delay. It is a thorough background check that the
embassy does to some visa applicants. It is really YOUR decison at the end of the day but I am just letting you know
about our experience with the Lagos embassy. GOOD LUCK whatever you decide to do.

You don't have to put the forms in any particular order. Make sure you include your passport photos and it does
not be stapled. GOOD LUCK..................

Hi, VJers:
My hubby recieved his social security card today. I am really happy for that. I would like to know what does
"Not valid for work without DHS authorization" mean? My hubby has the EAD card too. When he obtains a
green card will they remove those words from the card or when will they remove the words from the card?
I am really curious to know. Can he use his card to get a credit card or anything else in America? If anyone
knows please let me know. Thanks a lot.......

Hi, this is the link to the I-693 form: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-693.pdf. GOOD LUCK!

Hello VJers:
My husband recieved his EAD card on February 3rd, 2011 and applied for his social
security card the very next day on February 4th. The social security office said that
it would take about two weeks. I would like to know how long did it take for you
guys to get your social security card? I am really curious and would like to know
about other people's experiences. Thanks a lot.

Hello the K-1 visa is non immigrant visa but the Lagos consulate will treat it as an immigrant visa because it will lead to a green card
when one adjust status in the United States. Therefore you should email LagosIV@state.gov. The other email address is for people
applying for a tourist or business visa. The NVC will send you a letter informing you that your approved packet has been sent to the embassy.
The letter will state the LGS number on it. After you receive the LGS number you can email the embassy to find out your interview date. The
embassy works with the LGS number. You can call the NVC at 603-334-0700. They are open until midnight and it is good to reach them
at night. I hope this helps........GOOD LUCK.

I totally undertand how you feel and I have been through the same thing. I know it is not easy
but think positive and you will get good news. Hang in there and he will be here soon:)

Hi, yes my husband was approved in June and he received his visa on June 30,2010. We are now in the adjustment of status phase. He was in AP for almost six months. I hope you are no longer in AP.
Removal of Condition problem
in Effects of Major Family Changes on Immigration Benefits
Posted
Hello Vjers: I have a question. My husband's conditional green card will expire in February and I want to end the marriage because I don't want to help him with the removal of conditon application. I married him in Nigeria in 2009 and I have asked for the divorce paper when he visited Nigeria but he did not bring it to America. He wants to get the divorce paper from an American court. I did not register my marriage in America, do we have to get the divorce letter from the American court or the Nigerian court. How hard or easy is it to get the final divorce in Nigeria, does anyone know about this? If I get the divorce decree from Nigeria will he still be able to remove the conditions without me? I don't want the marriage anymore because he did not turn out the way I thought he would. Should I call the congressman office to have him get deported? Please help me with this issue. Thanks a lot........................
