This is the reason I suggest to all, (specially for Philippines' application) ... even your income is either under or over the poverty level, and specially if you come to the US via spouse or fiance visa, I-864A from your spouse is necessary. Of course you can't read that in their guidelines. I am saying this by others experience. We submitted I-864A even my salary itself is over the level and it all went well. It's always better to be proactive.

I hope they approve your parents' visa soon once they receive your I-864A.

This has occurred with other VJ members. With the economic downturn the USCIS wants to make sure that the spouse of a sponsor is aware of the obligation as it effects the entire household.

NVC approval does not matter. The interviewing officer makes the ultimate determination.

Not knowing the specifics of your I-864, if all that is needed is the 864A from your spouse go ahead and get it so that your parents can be issued their visas.

NVC just makes sure that the affidavit of support is sufficient according to the standard spelled out in the immigration law. The consulate makes the public charge determination based on a variety of factors. For example, how old is the beneficiary? What is the beneficiary's level of education? How good/bad is the beneficiary's health? What is the likelihood that the beneficiary will be able to find work and be self-supporting in the United States? The less likely a beneficiary will be able to work, the more financial support they will expect from the primary sponsor. For an average beneficiary who is of working age and has no significant health problems, a sponsor who barely qualifies is usually enough. An older beneficiary with health problems would require a sponsor with substantial income and/or assets in order to ensure the consulate that they won't become a public charge.

If the only thing holding up the visas is the requirement for a joint sponsor then the visas should be issued soon after the joint sponsor's affidavit of support and supporting evidence have been submitted.

Hello! My parents had their interview today and unfortunately, the consular officer asked for a joint affidavit of support from my husband. I am the petitioner. First of all, I was surprised because even on the poverty guideline, my income was sufficient and plus I expected that NVC would have determined or noticed that before they could forward the case to the embassy. Did anyone here have the same experience? If so, how much longer would/ did it take to issue the visa after the joint AOS was received?

Yes, give it time. Keep yourself busy! Normal lang yan. I've been here for 4 years now and i'd still get homesick sometimes. Go out. Make new friends. As for me, working helped a lot! Oh and shopping! LOL just kidding. Cry kung kailangan. Talk to your friends and family back home. That's what I do. Hang in there. It'll get better, I promise.

Hi guys! So, my parents have finally been scheduled for an interview for September 8th. They also passed their medical exam. My question is, can anyone please share their parents' interview experience in USEM Manila? I just want to have an idea of what possible questions they will be asked in the interview. Also, I read somewhere about pink, blue or yellow slips. Does pink mean they are approved? Will the consular officer tell them whether they approved or not the same day?

My parents' case was completed on July 18th. I called NVC yesterday and got the interview schedule for September 8th. I suggest you call the NVC if you haven't done so.

I called NVC this morning and gave me the interview date! Interview for both my parents will be on September 8, 2011. Call NVC again and see if they have schedule for you guys too! Thank God!!

got my case complete Jul 20, 2011.....and also waiting for the interview date...i thought i could get an AUgust interview but from what im hearing its september.....

My mom, who was not a US citizen, was able to accompany my 4-year old son to the interview. This was in Manila, Philippines. Most of the questions were actually asked to my mom and not my son. He was too young to understand some of the questions. Hope this helps.

his parent's case was completed march 29 and interview date was may 10.Due to abnormal chest xray, sputum test and culture as done.2 months delayed. sputum culture result was june 27 (negative) june 28 immunization. July 7 interview at USEM (passed). july 12 visas on hand. july 28 leaving for las vegas.

NVC forwarded my daughters case last July 12, Shes doing her advanced medical right now with my brother, her interview was set on August 5, 6:30 AM. wish us luck!!!

I adviced you to call the NVC operator after 10-15 days and ask if the interview appointment for you mom was set. Thats what I did after 11 days called NVC and I got my daughter interview appointment.

After the NVC completed my daughter case IR2 I did a lot of research about the timeline of the other VJ members and compare to my daughters timeline and heres what I found.

after completion count 11-15 days and call the NVC operator to get the interview appointment.

My parents cases have been completed just yesterday at NVC. I called this morning to ask when the interview will be scheduled. He said the same thing to me- no more available interviews in Manila and to call back next month to see if an interview for September will be scheduled. It's so near and yet so far! I'll keep you guys posted once I hear from NVC again. Good luck to all of us.

You are definitely Filipino if you own a tabo. And you take off your shoes/ slippers before you enter somebody's house. You might be Filipino if you're not used to calling your boss or anyone older than you by their first names. We usually use Ma'am or Sir. Lol! This is speaking from own experience. It was kinda awkward at first.

Hi guys! I am a little confused. Any input from you will be much appreciated! I filed I-130 for my parents in November of last year. The petitions got approved first week of March. The AOS fee of $88 has already been paid. I also already have the coversheets with me. I am now about to fill out the form I-864. Right now, my income is sufficient for a household number of 5 but the issue here is my status at work. My position is temp-to-perm. I am not yet permanent even though my income is enough. To be on the safe side, should I have my husband file for I-864A? Although I am making a little bit more money than him, his job is permanent. And we have been filing taxes jointly for the past 3 years, anyway. Do you guys think it will work that way? Help please...

And I just want to add that I have only been with this new company for 4 months. I got laid off in November from my previous job, the same month I filed for I-130.

You would be able to use your husband's income as well.

But the I-130 won't be approved for quite a while, so it's not really something to worry about right now anyway.

Thanks Joanna. Maybe I just worry too much. That's what I will do, I will file the I-130 first.. and hopefully I will find another job soon. =)

you're the sponsor, but your husband can be your co-sponsor if you don't make enough.

for now, you only need to file the i130 for each of them.
