Just back from biometrics. Thank fully, my super-moisturising plan paid off and my hands are super smooth and it went without a hitch. Wish I had managed to go in sooner because the traffic in SF sucks in the morning, but I don't suppose it really makes much of a difference.

Now, I shall twiddle my thumbs until interview. Oh, I guess I should read this studying for the test booklet they gave me, huh?

In regards to #s - I applied via Phoenix, because I'm in CA. My NOA letter came from the NBC and I have an IOE#. Not sure if that's good or bad for whoever is keeping track right now. I got 2 NOA letters - one about setting up the online account and one regular NOA.

I got 2 NOA's as well!

Wishing all the ones with IOE numbers good luck!

I'm tad nervous because it looks like SF processing times can go as long as 200 days. But I've seen some as short as 140...

I'm with everyone else here. Something is off with the inquiry. Either the GF is sketchy, the OP is about to enter a fake, not-bonafide marriage or we're all misinformed and it is really possible to lose citizenship within the timeline explained.

But isn't credit score used if you want to buy a home and such?

We already own a house.

They will not give a credit card to an unemployed immigrant and we do not believe in borrowing money. It is our life philosophy.

Will this hurt us? Do we have to have a credit score???

Credit score is a necessary evil.

Get a secured card at the very least and pay it off every month.

Got my 10 year GC in the mail today. I was surprised to see it in a regular USPS envelop instead of the the usual USCIS envelop. I guess they want to to look as "normal" as possible. Approval date was July 03

I just got the email notification from USCIS - - card production ordered! I'm so happy I could cry. Can't way to go home and take a much needed R&R....I can smell the beach...

Just got my Biometrics notice for 03/02/2012. Should I be alarmed that nearly everyone in CSC got scheduled for the Biometrics appointment roughly a month after they had filed and mine was scheduled roughly a month an a half? Oh well, at least I have an appointment

If Fedex is the most convenient courier for you, then go for Fedex. If Fedex charges like DHL, remove the whole document from the binder and just send it as it is and have her buy the supplies in the PHilippines (hella cheap!!!) I had to remove the fabric ribbon from a wedding invite because they were charging it something other than a document (higher, of course!)

It's always good to report your marriage especially if it's an option for you to live in the Philippines. Apart from changing ones name in the passport, it will also serve as your "marriage certificate" when you are required to present one by the bank, government office (PRC, SSS, Philhealth, etc). I reported my marriage as soon as I could and it was an easy process. My papers were available in NSO around 3 months later.

For American customers, time is money. 2,000% more money to be exact, based on per capita incomes. So American customers get really irritated waiting on a waitress for their check. Waitresses know American customers have much more valuable things to do with their time than wait on a modestly paid waitress who can make more in a day than the average Filipino makes in a month if she doesn't waste the customers' time.

To someone who has nothing better to do with their time, sure - you view speedy service as being "kicked out", where an American views it as being set free to put their time to better use.

Just because people take their time it doesn't mean they have nothing better to do. Travel around the world and you will see the pace of life varies from place to place. Travel to Italy and you'll be overwhelmed on how SLOW they are. LOL So does that mean they have nothing better to do? I don't think so. It's culture. Maybe that's why people who live in these slow-paced places are better natured in general.

On the other side, the waitress is "kicking you out" because they want to get out of their shift ASAP because they are tired and want to get off from the floor away from nasty, ill-mannered, condescending, entitled customers who think you owe them even your personal time. LOL.

I don't understand why you have to send her a phone. Can't you just ask her to buy a mobile phone in the Philippines??? You can easily buy phones there that you can use anywhere ("open line" as we call it). She can even use her prepaid sim to call you once she gets here, she just has to make sure it's loaded with more than 3000 PHP (roughly 25 USD) credits before she leaves the Philippines and roaming feature is set. Sending that phone is going to cause issues.

Even if two people are the same age their reasons for marriage are no different the those with an age gap. And yes one of them could be looking to take advantage of the other for their own personal gain... similar ages doesn't make a relationship immune to this.

I understand that sometimes the unemployment check pays better than a menial job BUT having a job keeps your resume current and gives you the opportunity to develop your skills, meet contacts, etc.

-It's more fun in the Philippines. Yes, this is sooo true. I think the people there are happier in general, regardless of their resources or lack thereof because their lives are more "balanced"- - - family, fun, career can easily be balanced. Kung di ka maingat dito, your job can burn you out and turn you into a soul-less monster. LOL

Either way go with a courier like Fedex or DHL. LBC i also an option.

For DHL (from PI), I think small documents start at 30 USD>.

Not really culture shock but more of realizing the TRUTH: There are things that are better in the Philippines and there are things that are better here. Pros and cons of living here and the PI. One is not really the greener pasture compared to the other. It's just the same at the end of the day.

Technically an affidavit IS notarized. But in this case, you can forego it if you can't have it notarized at all.

Go with what your lawyer has advised.

I had to answer YES for a minor infraction for which I was fined 120 USD as advised by my lawyer. I had discussed it with my friends, even my husband and they were all telling me I should just answer "no" since it's considered a a traffic citation, not a crime. However, an immigration lawyer told me to just answer yes and provide detailed explanation, the original courtesy notice and proof of payment. I had called the county court to double check on my citation and even the customer service associate was surprised that I was advised to disclose such a "minor" infraction.

Different lawyers, different points of view. If it comes back to you, then you can ask your lawyer, again.

Sent it last week (24th, they got it on the 25th) and I received the NOA today. I just wish this process doesn't take long because we're dying to go on vacation in the Philippines and I'm not comfortable traveling while it's in process.

What we found challenging was providing "hard proof" like joint investments, life insurance, etc. Neither of our jobs are exactly stable enough for us to make investments, etc. I hope the examiner understands that though.

My advice to any one looking for love in the Philippines is to hop on a plane and you will find all the woman you want. Philippines is like DisneyLand for adults, most Americans can have just about any girl they want in the Philippines.

No, you can't tell by simply looking at someone but my guess is, out of those three, the citizen and the LPR will have no problem proving their status when called upon to do so simply by carrying a color photocopy of the biographic page of your passport or your Green Card or whatever valid visa you're on (F-1, B-2) etc. I still don't see the big deal. Yes, unfortunately, Hispanics and Asians might get called upon to produce ID more than a white, blond, blue-eyed chick would be asked to, but hey, that's how the cookie crumbles. If you wanna live there, you gotta follow the laws.

As for the illegal alien, if this law gets even one of them deported, then more power to it!

I was in the U.S. for four years on a F-1 student visa. I always kept a copy of the visa in my wallet. I am Indian, brown-skinned, could easily pass for a Mexican and have often been mistaken as one. I also plan to keep a copy of my Green Card in my wallet and will produce it when called upon to do so. It seems to me only illegals need to fear this law. If you're a legal alien or a citizen, there's no need to get your panties up in a bunch. Produce your ID, and you'll be on your way.

I don't think it's fair to the non-white to be assumed to be illegal. Yes, I can carry a copy of my Greencard w/ me everyday. Yes, I can face an officer w/o batting an eyelash, but the point is, in a street - - the non-white legal alien or citizen vs the white illegal alien (I'm sure there are some, let's be realistic) - - who's most likely to be harassed?

Don't get me wrong, I'm against illegal immigration. There are so many ways to make ones residency or stay here legally, but I'm against the possibility of being harassed due to my dark hair, bulbous nose, dark eyes and un-american accent. It's not fair to anyone who is non white, legal immigrant or citizen. Sure, it's no big deal if you can prove your legal status or citizenship, but at the end of the day, no one wants to be harassed.

What's scary here is how the authorities who are not aptly trained will implement this law. Admit it, there are bigots and jerks out there who just want to power-trip and this will surely be an avenue for them.
