  1. If you are sending your things before you move, they will be stopped at the border until you pass the border first.

You need to POE before your items do and you send confirmation to the shipping company after then they release your items from the POE and finish delivering them to you. You need to fill out all the proper customs forms, they are quite lengthy.

I only have a few boxes of things I was going to send via Canada post. Do I fill out the forms beforehand or at the POE?

  2. One thing I'd be weary about taking the Grey Hound is the bus does not wait for you. The Cr-1 process can take over an hour. You could easily miss your bus. Be careful!

Hey thanks!!, I should contact them ahead of time to see what their policy on that is!! (F)

  3. My CR1 visa was approved, and planning for the move is under way. I am planning to cross via greyhound bus. but I was wondering..

Do you need a return trip ticket to cross the border???

  4. I started getting my 'proof book' done. It has a year of phone records in it...I highlighted any call made to/from my husband, his work, his mother, his brother etc..anything that would be attributed to him. I have pictures from when we were dating, our engagement, wedding, holidays with each other's family and trips we took. I also have copies of my life insurance policy with his name as beneficiary (no bank accounts as of yet). I have cards he has given me, ones I gave him and also ones that were addressed to both of us (thank you cards, invitations etc..) I guess I could include some emails but we talk on the phone more than email or chat (as we both work 9-5 jobs). As for gifts, I don't really know what I would include...I'm wearing the biggest one he has giving me on my left ring finger :D

Did they even ask for all that evidence of a relationship???

  5. I was denied entry in Aug of 2006, then I re-entered the US in Novemeber 2007. I never had a problem getting into the US. It was quick, few questions.. and that was it.

I don't think they "flag" people for more than 24 hrs after the denial. In 2006, the customs agent told me I would be inadmissible to the United States for 24 hrs from the date I received the rejection notice.

  6. Just talked to NVC . . . supposedly scheduling is done for this month . . . and no November interview for me. I don't see any sign that any other of the mid/late June case completes made it either?

Is there some sort of over/under on how far behind Montreal can manage to fall?

Best wishes for those that did finally get their interview date . . . but I am bummed out! :(

Isn't the timeline different for each US consulate in Canada?

  7. I received an email from NVC asking for police certificates, but I'd already submitted it(For my region, my current address). Apparently I need one for each of the places I've lived since I was 16!! and they they have to cover the period in which I lived in that area for 6 months +. I am completely clueless as to how to get them. I've live in a lot of places since I was 16 and I'm not sure what to do.. please help me!!

  8. Wow, I'm shocked Ontario did something that fast. Without expediting, things take FOREVER. I forget how long my old marriage certificate took to come in, something like 2 months. It's ridiculous.

I received my long form birth certificate 4 days after applying online. They have a 15 business day or money back policy for online applications. It was great !! (L)

  9. a lot of people here have moved around so your situation isn't that strange.....you just ask for a Canada wide name check...

    Ok thanks :D

Exactly. One police check will cover everywhere you've lived in Canada. A Canada wide name check done from the RCMP will work just fine.

The instructions are a little confusing!

    Okies :star:

  10. Ok my situation is a strange one. I've lived all over Canada. I lived for four years in Saskatchewan in three different places and in Ontario like six different places. How could I possibly get police checks for all those places. I moved out when I was 16. Can't I just submit a RCMP Criminal Background check?. Or will they ask me what to submit!! :crying::oops::huh2::alien:
