  1. We hope that everyone is doing great and have been either coming into the USA or are on your way. Well the last time I was here was back a couple of months ago. Some of you may recall we were trying to buy a house. Well we have moved into that house with no problems whatsoever and life is great! We treated ourselves to new furniture to boot LOL. The dogs love it here lots of land to run and chase anything that might get into the yard. Oh and we have a pool YIPPEEEEE! Hubby is doing great here in Florida and loves the weather. Anyway I should be around more again now that things are all settled and life is back to normal. Oh and just for information if anyone is thinking seriously about quitting smoking CHANTIX!!! AWSOME pill and im not even having withdrawls.

Four days, 22 hours, 32 minutes and 8 seconds. 123 cigarettes not smoked, saving $9.26. Life saved: 10 hours, 15 minutes.

  2. We have Alltel and couldnt be happier with the service it works no matter where we have travelled in the US. We have the 2phone plan for me and hubby and get 1000 shared minutes between us which we hardly ever use all of them because its free calls after 7pm and weekends and they have this thing called "My circle of friends" which if you call these certain friends there is no charge. We also get free mobile to mobile and mobile to home etc. We tried Cingular before this and could hardly keeps bars on the phone but with Alltel there seems to always be bars even when where travelling out in the country!

  3. If anyone here knows about tomato plants, please help!

We are growing 3 varieties of tomatoes in our veggie garden, half of which are cherry tomatoes.

The plants have been growing absolutely wonderfully, matter of fact I just snipped off their "growing tips" a few days back cuz they were high enough and I wanted them to flourish...

This morning I went to check to see if any stems might need tying up and first thing I notice, is that one of our tomato plants was almost BALD! I thought that the raccoons and/or deer had been at them but as I'm checking the plants, I notice, in the plant right next to the bald one, this HUGE bright green caterpillar! I mean REALLY thick and creepy looking, spots all down it's back, eyes, and what looked to be maybe a stinger sticking out the end of it's butt! So I get a stick (I wasn't touching that thing oh no) and scraped it off the tomato plant stem and stepped on it. The result was gross needless to say. Urp.

So anyway, I start checking all the other tomato plants a little more closely and when I was done, I had removed EIGHT of these things from where they were feasting on the leaves of our damn plants. I'm sure there's probably more but I had to take a break cause everything just started blending into one what with everything being green, ya know? I'll go back and investigate after lunch.

Anyone know what these little bastards are and what I can do alternatively to using a pesticide? I damn well wanna eat tomatoes this summer after all the hard work we did growing these suckers...lol.

Here's a pic I took of one - sorry it's a bit blurry, I was holding a stem it was on and the things started moving and I got all creeped out...lol...

Sharon I have had that problem also here is what they are:

The tomato hornworm is a large (3 to 5 inches long), green caterpillar with a horn projecting from its rear; it will eventually become a moth whose diurnal feeding habits and ability to hover have earned it the name of "hummingbird moth." The hornworm chews holes in the leaves of dill, eggplant, pepper, potato and tomato plants, and will sometimes also damage the fruits of the latter three. Check damaged plants for dark colored droppings, and spray them with water; this should cause the hornworms to thrash about and enable you to handpick them more easily. If you notice papery cocoons on their backs, remove but don't destroy the caterpillars: they are already doomed by natural parasites, which should be allowed to reproduce. You can also control hornworms with a Bacillus thuringiensis (BT) spray, or a pyrethrum spray if the infestation gets out of hand.

I also read somewhere to put shallow lids with beer in them and for some reason they love the beer and drown in it. And coat a mixture of detergent and water on and around the area and plants. Good luck!

  4. We have tried Cingular but cannot seem to get connections and keep the bars on the phones. We went with Alltel and have never been happier. Its a 2yr plan but its worth it. Phones were free 2, we have 1000 shared minutes. After 7pm and weekends calls are free nationwide. You can get less min on your plan if you wish for less. We pay 90 something a month. Alltel has a plan called Circle of Friends: you can add your friends doesnt matter who their carrier is and calls are free to them. We also get free mobile to mobile and free calls to home. The customer service is great and we are very pleased with Alltel.

Its called the nationwide plan we are on.

  5. We are in the middle of trying to purchase a home. They are saying something about hubby not being in the states with his ss# long enough with the work history etc. He has been here for over a year now and already has a excellent credit rating, employed and proof all of income. I know of a few of you that have purchased homes here in Florida or for that matter anywhere. Does anyone know why it is they would say this? Is there something they are not aware of that I can bring to their attention? This has totally disappointed both of us they are making a few phone calls today but if someone else has been thru this and had anything of the same happening to you I would surely appreciate some feedback. We are a CANAM couple.

I tried to edit but couldnt: This is on the financing end of things by the way. We were approved for a mortgage but now during the nitty gritty this is coming up!

Yes, your foreign spouse can certainly buy. I am a banker with a major Lender that offers an

excellent Foreign national program. I will e-mail you with my contact information. Where in Florida are you considering buying?

We are trying to purchase in Marion County Florida

  7. That might be false but I never would have thought to think about something like that as I would have wanted my $$$$ back if I'd not known better since reading that. Ya never know now what people will come up with.

  8. You will most definitely have to have the car papers put into your name you would probably have to go to the motor vehicle office and have your dad sign the car over into your name because you willl have to get a title for the car here in the states in your name. You will also have to write to Honda and tell them that you need the paper stating that the car meets US standards even if it has the daytime running lights on it thats ok same with the kilometer reading it will just make it hard to ever sell the car here in the states unless you pay to have a new meter put in the car in the future. Its been almost a year since hubby came over and I cannot recall the exact form numbers without searching thru files but someone here will surely come up with the names of the forms for you.
