  7. Hey MeggyMo. My 21 months of living here in the US had been very challenging so far. A lot of things had happened and time went by so fast. As soon as I moved here, I applied for a license so that I would be able to practice my profession. I also learned how to drive, passed the written test at first take, yet it took me three times to pass the actual driving test. I was able to get a job and have been working for the same employer for 1 year and 3 months now. My husband had to leave me for 6 months because of deployment. Got a house while he was away and now he's back and he's with me again, it feels so much better.

I hope all of us will have an easier time dealing with USCIS again. I'll be praying for us all.

Yea I was nervous about getting my license here too. I didnt drive back home didnt need to. It took me two times I was crushed when I failed the first time! How are u liking ur job? What do u do? U are a trooper I wouldnt know what to do with myself being alone for that long im glad he is home for u now :). We are holding off on a house even though I want one so bad. We are thinking of moving back to canada in a few years to be close to my family since my husband doesnt speak with his family here. It makes it more difficult. I have such a close family and leavong that was pretty tough

  8. Hello all,

I have some questions about the Vancouver BC consulate.

Thankfully, we've finally received our NOA2 and Vancouver has sent us Packet 3. I'm hoping those of you that have gone ahead of us will have some advice to share.

I am trying to coordinate my medical and interview date. I'm not in BC so I will be traveling to Vancouver for both the medical and interview. Ideally, I would like to schedule them the same day, and I understand this is possible, pending availability. I also know that you can only schedule medical exams on Wednesday and I'm not sure how likely it is to get an interview on a Wednesday. I'm wondering if trying to schedule them on the same day will significantly delay the process. I would much rather travel to Vancouver twice if that means getting the visa at a much earlier date.

For those of you that have recently scheduled your interview/medical, how far out are they scheduling them? How soon were you able to get your interview and schedule your medical? Will it take much longer to try and get them on the same Wednesday? Any thoughts?

I've scanned the timelines and tried to research it, but can't seem to get any consistent idea of what to expect.

Secondly, I am confused about when I actually receive the visa and can immigrate. I've heard the visa is ready for pick-up the same day and I've also heard that they will mail your visa and passport a few days later. When is the earliest conceivable time after your interview that you can cross the border and activate the visa? Same day? Day after? Few days later?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    First congrats!

Luckily for you the Vancouver consulate is not nearly as busy as the Montreal embassy!

Many people have done this and schedueled both on the same day. To be honest I think it is better if you did the medical on Wednesday and then had the interview the next day!

This is what I did. The medical really takes awhile and then you have to wait a few hours for the results. It would make it easier on you to do this.

When I sent packet 3 to the embassy I then emailed them and they just asked what day I would like my interview. I told them a Thursday and they set it up! Take care of this as soon as you can. Once you have your interview email the clinic and tell them your interview date and input the date you want the medical (the Wednesday before) they send you a confirmation quite quickly.

As for the visa you could stay the couple days it takes for it to be made then go pick it up at the consulate or you can bring a prepaid xpress post envelope which is what I did. Bring the biggest one you can since they will be sending not just your passport with the visa in it but the envelope which you DO NOT OPEN inside of the xpress post envelope. I recieved everything a week after I believe and then once you have it you are free to use it! Just bring the visa and the DO NOT OPEN envelope with you to the airport!

Good luck and don't worry everyone who works at the embassy is great

  9. Good news folks - I've got a job!!

I start next Monday at Universal Orlando. I'm going to be doing Guest Services - so basically getting complained at all day!! The pay isn't great but it definitely isn't terrible either, and I'm excited to get out of the house and start making some <sings> "money money money maaaaaaaahnaaaay.....MAAAAAAAAHNAY!!"

    Woot woot!!

Congrats on the job! Its nice to hear things are goin great for everyone.

I had some good news today! Got my drivers license and I have a job interview with AT&T

    Fingers crossed!

  10. How did it go Meggy??? I'm still practicing on my driving, but I'm waiting on my State Id. I went the end of Feb. to apply, they said my card won't get to me till May...Nuts Eh!!! At least they gave me a temporary one..

I passed the driving part but failed the maneuverability. I am going back next wednesday and I should get it :). That is insane that it is taking so long for a state ID! I took my learners test and got the learners card the same day.

  11. Hello to everyone..we are praying and hoping that our AOS interview next week will be alright..got all the things they needed..so we are on the go!!!...hopefully, we get approval as well..I got my EAD card last February, and waiting for my greencard so that I can enroll for school this coming Summer..ahhh..Lord, please guide us....God bless everyone!!..

I am sure everything will go great for you guys as long as you're prepared and confident! Good luck :)

  12. Went to DMV today and did the driving test (I now understand why US drivers as horrendous). For some reason I was incredibly nervous.

After a minor hitch with proof of VA residency, all went Well.

Good luck onm the roads of Ohio. If the driving test is as simple as the one in VA then you will have no problems.

Congratulations! Yea I had to wait for a cab after my test and I watched 5 people do the test in the 40 minutes I waited. It was a quick trip down the street then they watched them park. I was a little shocked that that was all they wanted you to do so I'm not too nervous. I am nervous about driving with these crazy Americans!
