  1. My husband (petitioner) changed his address with USCIS since he had recently moved. Our I-130 was approved in March/14. Since we had been calling NVC regularly with no case number or file, we were informed that USCIS had thought my husband changed my (beneficiary) address to that I live with him. Due to this our file has been sent to god knows where (Not NVC) and we have to wait 60 days for them to get our file from records and get it sent back to them. They have also indicated that we may have to fill out an I-824 form...which will cost another $405!!! Has this happened to anyone else?! So frustrating!

  2. My husband and I eloped at an Ohio courthouse. He is American and I am Canadian.

I went to change my last name in Ontario, Canada and they will not let me change my name because I only have a certified copy of my marriage certificate. Also the copy states only good in Wood County. That is all that Ohio sent us when we ordered our marriage certificate. I called the Ohio court house and they tell me that is all they give out because they keep the original copy on file.

What am I supposed to do? Canada will not accept it and Ohio will not give me anything else. I need to change my name because I applied for my I-130 with my husband's last name.

Any advice will be appreciated at this point.

  3. What can we use as evidence of a bonafide marriage. We do not have joint ownership or property or a lease or co-mingling of financial resources. This is something we will do once we live together, not in separate countries. We also do not have any children.

What does it mean by affidavits sworn to or affirmed by a third party with knowledge of our marriage...Is a simple letter not good enough from a third party?? How would I go about doing this?

What other documentation could we use to establish there is an ongoing union?

  4. I am a Canadian citizen. About to marry my American boyfriend. Once I get all my papers to live over there is it possible for me to live in the U.S.A and still work for the Canadian government and commute back and forth?

  5. I am so confused with this K1 visa if anyone could help it would mean a lot because immigration and customs were not trying to help me at all. I have been reading to be eligible for this visa you have to have met your fiance within 2 years prior to filing, so does this mean I am not eligible for this visa since I have been with my boyfriend for 5 years? Also how long can this process potentially take before I can move to the U.S. (Im Canadian, boyfriend is American). Also how much does this cost approx. and I dont understand either, how long before I can work? Also someone was talking about with this visa having to be apart for a year, is this true? If anyone could help me I would appreciate because like I said immigration was rude and not helpful at all.

  6. I am a Canadian citizen. My boyfriend is an American. I would like to move over to Michigan and start a life with him and potentially get married. But right now I would just like to get over there and move into a place with him. Im not sure where to even begin. Any websites or suggestions into finding a job over there. I have a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Criminology and I could use all the help to begin my process. Also how hard is it to find a company willing to sponsor a Canadian?
