  1. Hi there,

My fiance had his K-1 interview today and was tentatively approved. He did not have a military certificate because he never served, but at the interview he found out they wanted it anyway. So after the interview he went down to his local town hall (in Belgium) where he was told by the embassy he could get one. Problem is the town hall no longer issues them. Instead my fiance was given an official letter from the city with the stamp and a copy of the new law, which is the reason there are no more military certificates. Should this be sufficient? He has to go back to the embassy tomorrow and drop it off.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  2. You may change the "Consulate" when the case is at NVC. I would look into opting in to the electronic processing through Montreal. That should speed things up through NVC and for interview. Check in the Canada regional forum for timeline differences using the new system. It saves a couple months in China.

Thanks for the info... I knew there had to be a way, but I don't know what kind of information they want after I-129F approval. :)

  3. Hi there, so remember on the bottom of the I-129F where it asks your preferred US embassy for processing? Is it possible to change your preference after you send in the form? Right now I am in the waiting period between receiving the NOA1 and waiting for the NOA2 (50+ days in). My fiance is Belgian but we're currently living together in Canada. On the form I put Toronto as the preferred consulate, but I've since learned Toronto doesn't process the K-1, Montreal does.

There are a couple reasons I want to change it. First, I've read/heard that the embassy in Brussels is much faster than Montreal (30 days vs. 120 days). And second, it would be nice for him to see his family before he's stuck in limbo in the US for a couple months after we get married.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hi, I'm a Canadian engaged to an American. We're almost ready to send in our I-129F, but a couple questions remains: On the I-129F, question 14 asks for, "Address in the United States where your fiancé(e) intends to live." Well, we don't know yet. My fiance plans to move in the next couple of months, so it won't be his current address, and he's living with roomates, so it won't be the next address either. Should I write his current address because I intend to live with him? Or maybe his parents' address for some stability? On top of that, because he intends to move, it would be horrible if all the documents for the next step of the application got sent to the wrong address, or returned. Is there a way for my fiance to specify the address he currently lives at versus the address he'd like to receive mail at?

Thanks folks. Reading this forum so far as been amazingly helpful!

I had the same problem when I filed mine last month. I'm the citizen but I haven't lived in the US for the last 2 1/2 years so I ended up using my parent's address for everything (mailing address, intend to live, etc.). My suggestion is to just pick an address of someone you trust to check their mail and even open your letters from USCIS when they come. If he does move you can always pay the post office to either collect or forward/redirect his mail to the new address (or you!). I may have to do this in the coming months as well.

Also, once you get the first Notice of Action in the mail you will be able to change your address online at the uscis website.

    Good luck!
