To register a US performed marriage in Romania, contact the Romanian Embassy in Washington DC.

You can arrive with your papers to make the application at 10 am. It took us 3 hours (they were busy).

There is no parking, you will walk minimum 1 km , or use taxi.

You will need these papers:

US Citizen's letter of intent/ freedom to marry

3 years of photocopied tax returns is all I needed at Bucharest. They only asked for one year.. but I took 3.

Or get tax transcripts here, it takes 2-3 weeks. IRS transcripts are the best evidence of income.

You don't need SSN for marriage. You can apply for SSN before you get married, then go after married and have the name changed on the card.

Social security office has maiden name on their computer?

All of my documents are with married name with USCIS.

This is very strange and I wonder can some veterans enlighten me.

A brief rundown on my chain of events:

--K-1 visa approved June 2010

--POE and marriage July 2010

--AOS 1 week after marriage (All documents submitted with married name only)

--Green card approved September 28, receieved October 10(with married name only)

--Social security office visit, October 12, DHS info in their computer shows green card approved, but in maiden name?

All NOAs from AOS, plus the green card ALL have married name. Why is the DHS info at the SS office have "Status- Permanent Resident-Mrs. ... (maiden name)"?

The SS officer submitted a request for a card in her maiden name (without my apporval!!) and hands us a sheet of paper to make an infopass appt...

At the same time the SS officer is telling us to return with proof of her name change with DHS. I was holding a NOA(return address DHS...) plus a green card, plus state sealed original marriage app and license ALL with the married name, she didnt care. "Return with proof from DHS of your name change" was all she could tell me, even though I challenged her with all my documents.

Am I missing something here? Do I return in 2 weeks and the information in their computers will have magically changed to married name? Are they doing this to people only to link the married + unmarried name to ONE SSN?

Can anyone explain this scenario?

Your package is more than enough! Noroc!

You dont need every page of the passport for either. For citizenship, get a notarized copy of the naturalization certificate (but they only request copies, not notarized copies- so either will work...). Then for proof of meeting in person, use passport stamps copies + flight iteneraries and/or boarding passes (the tickets you give to the airline when going on the plane).

By the way, notarized copies can be made for $3 at any UPS Store, usually http://www.theupsstore.com/Pages/index.aspx

Also,

Ours went through so fast at NVC (1 day), it didn't matter.They can use the USCIS EAC recipt number when you call them.

Your NVC case number will look like BCH2010xxxxx and that number is most useful when calling Bucharest Embassy with questions

about the interview, packet 3 , etc.

When did the NVC receive your approved petition? Call the state dept with your EAC receipt number. NVC phone number is here in the forums.

You are flying Tarom or Blue to Bucharest first? Sotia mea flew many times around europe and Cluj-Bucharest and every time Tarom or Blue Air was playing games with the bag size and weight... They make her pay OR put the bag in "check" or under the plane. Her carry-on bags were NOT over weight or over size.

Being 'certified' for translations in USA amounts to describing your credentials on the 'translated' documents. There you will, of course, describe them in english.

Example, you translate a document and when signing it, write "English degree, Univ Bucuresti, 2006" or wherever you went to school.

BUT--

You can also join The American Translators Association http://www.atanet.org/

But, the same would apply, you write your credentials (Where/when/what degree you have) PLUS you can say "Member of ATA". I would think the degree information is more important.

Contact ATA and see what they say.

Another thing you need to do is become a notary public in Florida. Then you can make certified / legalized copies AND translate and thats what most people need. http://www.flgov.com/notary_how_to

The envelope cut is normal. Kayak.com has the best airfares this summer for Bucharest -> USA. I put NOVEMBER 3 as a return date on a round trip ticket- fly on Tuesay or Wednesday. These two tricks will give you the best price.

I did it like the example form. But, I just sent mine in last week, maybe I get a RFE, who knows

- form I-864 filled and signed

- last 3 years IRS transcripts OR 3 years IRS form 1040 OR 3 years W2 (they all say the same thing, how much you make in 1 year)

(transcripts take 2-3 weeks, photocopies of the 1040s are what I used)

- letter of employment OR recent pay stubs (they say the same thing, you are working NOW)

A certified copy of his birth certificate will be best. These are easy to get in the USA. I got 3 for $20 in 30 minutes.

What state was he born in? Birth certificate copies are specific to a state.

Biometrics (fingerprints) --have clean fingers. One person was rescheduled because they had a wound on their finger (a small wound).

Interview:

Engagement ring was looked at.

How did you meet? Where exactly did you meet? When did you meet in person? How long did you meet with fiance last time you meet?

Does fiance want to have children? When do you want to have children?

Does fiance work or go to school?Where do they work or go to school?

Do they have brothers/sisters? Does fiance parents know about the marriage?

Do your parents know about the marriage? Has fiance met you parents/ siblings? Have you met fiance's parents/siblings?

Does fiance own a house? Does the bank own the house or fiance owns the house? (I had submitted house documents for I-134)

This is all I can remember right now. Seems like easy questions to fill the time (5 minutes) If you really have a relationship, this interview is easy.

One girl being interviewed (not us) was asked how many times she had sex with her fiance. This is shocking, I know, but it happened.

It seems they do a lot of checking. I am in my 3rd career (back in school again for 2nd degree) and they knew to ask about school.

So, just be honest and take lots of evidence-- they are very nice in Bucharest, dont worry! Oh and stay at Hotel Intercontinental. Its 50 meters from the embassy. And Bio-Medica was only $70 USD for medical. Hope this helps some
