  1. Hi there, tell your husband to study Sharepoint. Its easy enough to pick up and it is growing in popularity big time over here. This is what my husband specializes in and they are falling over themselves to hire him. He is currently on 85k a year. He also has all the skills your husband has but its a knowledge of Sharepoint that gives him the edge.

  2. Congratulations. Having fluent English is a big bonus, but your advice is good I think too.

    Thanks Cortr,

You make a good point about fluent English.

I work in the manufacturing industry and there are many jobs out there in this area, as manufacturing is always one of the first industies to recover after a recession.

I targeted the medical device industry as it my chosen field.I am in the Quality department but there are many people working in Production who are not fluent English speakers when they start work but they learn the language and when they are comfortable enough with English they then start interviewing for the jobs that they are qualified for.

I currently work along side Kenyans, Phillipinos, Mexicans, an Argentinian, a gentleman from Loas, a lady from Kuwait, a lady from Ethiopia and a guy from Togo as well as Americans and other nationalities.

  3. Hi Folks,

I'm so sorry to read lots of you are having problems finding work here, I arrived in March and I was lucky enough to have loads of interview offers,I left my first job here after 5 weeks because it wasn't a company I wanted to have on my resume, but I was offered another job within 1 week of leaving.

My first tip is that while you are still in your country, look for a job here on Monster or where ever, contact the employer/ agency and tell them that you are due to arrive in the States and would love the opportunity to submit your resume, as this job is exactly the same as what you are currently doing in your country, how excited you would be for an opportunity to work with them blah blah .........

This is what I did before I arrived in the US and it paid off. The person at the first agency I rang took a personal interest in me and was actually the person who found me my current position.

My second tip is to be as confident as you can, ten times more confident than you would be in your country, tell them why you are the best person for the job, they expect it here, actually tell them to their face that you know you can do the job better than anyone else. Its a dog eat dog world here.

Third and last tip, when you first arrive here , you will meet a lot of new people, network, ask them what they do, tie it in with what you do and promote yourself. Cultivate a go getter attitude, you never know, by doing that opportunities may present themselves.

    Good luck!!!

  4. Wonderful, congrats!

    Thanks Penguin!

    Well a final UPDATE

I got my visa today , I swear I nearly hopped on the post girl as soon as she got out of her van!

Almost E1000 and 3 months later Im good to go!

The flights are booked, we are travelling on Monday cos its over E200 cheaper than flying on Sunday, it gives me one more day to get organized as well.

    Cant wait!

I hope my story will help a few along the way, don't forget, no US earned income in the last few years could result in a request for a joint sponsor at Dublin Embassy!

  5. Ok, I asked in another forum, but I think you fellow DCF'ers will have better input, and there has got to be somebody who's been in my situation.

I am USC. Hubby is Mexican. We live in Mexico and are doing DCF. We have a daughter together but she has her CRBA.

I am literally just starting to file the I-130 petition with the Mexican Embassy. We're leaving in 2 weeks for a vacation to the States to visit my parents and to baptise our daughter there. We're all going together. Hubby has had his tourist visa for 3 years now, and this is his 3rd time to the States. However, this is our first time entering US on the same date, married, and with child. He has always gone separately and lined up in visitor's line. This time, we're not sure what to do, especially now with the baby.

I've been told that him entering with me will cause suspicion and it is possible that he can stay and do an AOS. That is not our intention as we are doing DCF but how can I prove that or get agent to trust me? Should we not enter as a family? If so, and I'm traveling alone with baby, I'm under the impression that I need a permission from her father. But won't that cause even more suspicion if father is on another line?

    aggghhhh! Totally stressed out!

I'd just like to say that when I travelled to the states with my then 4 month old son and my USC husband in 2008 I didnt give immigration another thought cos I wasn't intending to emigrate to the states at all, we were only going for a couple of weeks so our son could meet his grandparents. We entered in Newark, flew to Houston and then finally landed in Seattle.

Infact I would have been really suprised and mystified as to why I was being asked about ties to Ireland etc.

Maybe going through this whole process of obtaining an immigrant visa and reading about other folks applying for visas, and theres so much info on here about every aspect of immigration has made people paranoid, unless theres something I'm not understanding here?

I'm not saying you are paranoid Jaremedios, ofcourse I'm not and apologies if it comes across like that. I'm just trying to get my head around why anyone would be randomly questioned when innocently going on holiday .

  6. It says your fiance will apply for a Visa abroad at the American embassy or consulate at:

    City:

    Country:

I am confused. Is this the embassy in his country or mine? He lives in Ireland and will be moving to the U.S.

    Thank you!

Its Dublin, Ireland I'd say. Dublin seem to have a quick turnaround for fiance visas , just under 3 months. Im not sure if you can file the petition under Direct Consular Filing though. I think someone like Izzyflan needs to comment on this.

  7. So I'm thinking of applying to a position here. But I haven't been since I was 14 or so and I'd like to know if its a good place to live.

Basically my hours have been shaky for a year so I've started the job hunt before anything bad happens. Despite living in SF I'm actually a midwesterner so the west coast - midwest transition is a non issue.

Thats where Im going to be living..next week..hopefully. My husband is working there in Bloomington.

  8. First congratulation for you and your husband...what a quick result of your visa...

Yes they took my fingerprint and I did sign the form DS-230 part II at the first interview...

Hopefully my husband will find the co-sponsor soon....and I get my soon as well.

Have a safe flight for you and your son...and thanks for sharing your story...

Thanks! Im keeping my fingers crossed for you.

  9. Wheeee!

Pretty amazing...had the interview on Friday, and just got the Passport with Visa back this morning! :D :D :D

I'm a tad peeved that they put it in the mailbox, even though I purchased a "signature required" sticker. But at least they used one of the package-sized auxiliary boxes (which needed a key) rather than try to cram it into the regular box.

When my mother saw the envelope she started bawling. :( I guess that's the only downside to moving down there...the family ties issue. I'm TOTALLY happy about it -- 100% -- but seeing my mother so sad takes a little bit of the enthusiasm out of it.

Oh well. It's just a LITTLE bit of the enthusiasm. I'm really thrilled! :dancing: :joy: :dancing:

Congrats, that was quick! My Mam had a little cry on the phone today as well when I told I'll be flying out soon. Shes going to miss me and my little boy so much, and I her but you gotta live your life, and as long as we are happy the folks will be happy.

  10. Oh...I thought I was alone...so we have the same problem...what we can't except is my husband income is higher than any employee in USA...he made very good income abroad as international worker,..we have a very nice life...traveling arround the world, playing golf etc.....But still not enough for embassy..we are very sad and frustrating yes...

My husband talked to his brother about joint sponsor but still no decision yet..i can understand that this is not easy decision for them..so let them think about it for a while...My mother in law willing to be our joint sponsor but she is 84 y/o and she does not have job only living from pension and property rental from other...I worried this could be a problem...

So you have get the joint sponsor, and did you submit them to embassy already??? I am coriouse how long it will take after you submit them......Please kindly share your story with us....Thank you very much...and best wishes for your next interview...

Hiya, yeah Ive submitted them already, they got all the relevent paperwork on Friday and we were told today that the visa is in the printers and my passport will be sent out today or tomorrow! No second interview.

Did they take your fingerprints and get you to sign your name on the DS 230 part II at your interview? Im so sorry this has happened to you too, I thought the affidavit of support would be fine cos my husband is on a good wage over there. Hope you get your co sponsor sorted.

  11. Dear VJ forum,

I have more question about affidavit support.....

We still can't believe/hardly to believe that US Embassy refuse my visa CR1 with financial reason...which my husband has submit the form I-864 and other supporting document...then consulate at embassy asked me to submit another affidavit support from co-sponsor..

Is that possible for my husband to re-submit the affidavit support with more evidence because its hard to except the decision of USA embassy..which far away from reality...Fyi my husband has been working internationally out side of USA for along time..

I am waiting for any response from all of VJ member...thank you very much in advance

Hi, thats exactly what happened to me recently. Couldnt believe it. We submitted the co-sponsors paperwork and now my case is under review. Have you got your co sponsor yet?

    Heres the link

  12. Things were different for me, because I got my passport back with the visa there and then. Nowadays, they post it out to you. So even if they sent it today or tomorrow, with the slowness of the Irish postal system, I wouldn't count on getting the passport and visa this week, sorry.

The only thing I could suggest is ring them tomorrow and ask - very nicely- if there is any chance of you collecting the passport later in the week in person due to travel arrangements.

Dublin to Galway is usually a one day delivery but yeah I definitly have plans to ask if I can travel up to get it, with the new motorway open its less than a 2 hour drive. I'm hoping I may still be in with a chance of getting it back by Friday.

  13. Thanks for coming back with the update, Harley. That is really weird news about Dublin procedures regarding the I-864... definitely new protocol. I don't know anything about the delivery timing in Dublin -- hopefully penguin_ie will see this since she went through Dublin as well. Best of luck to you. :)

Thanks for that, I'm planning on ringing them tomorrow so Il post any updates. It will be worth it in the end, my husband will get to give our little one a cuddle, hes missing us both so much.

  14. UPDATE;

I'm going to update this for all Dublin DCF ers in the future.

I understand now what the lady in the embassy was trying to tell me.

They wanted proof of prior US income in the last couple of years regardless of present US income and because my husband hasnt worked in the US for 10 years they wanted a joint sponsor.

So my father in law sent off the paperwork but forgot to include copies of his and my mother in laws passport. I got the phonecall telling me to get him to fax the copies on Friday, they received them today and now my case is under review.

Does anyone know how long it might take now for them to issue the visa and get my passport back to me? Its really down to the wire now cos I want to travel on Sunday. Thankfully we havent bought the flights yet. Im so stressed out right now

  15. I posted this in your other thread, but thanks for coming back to let us know. I can't recall any consulate NOT accepting a new job, so perhaps this is a new protocol at Dublin. Sorry to hear this. :( I hope you get it sorted out quickly.

Hi thanks, I spent a good 15 minutes on the phone to the lady at the embassy earlier clarifying why we needed the co sponsor. I swear she hadn't a clue how DCF works. She kept saying that because Matt hadnt proof of US income in the last 2 years we needed the co sponsor.

But, to file DCF he doesnt need prior US income or am I mistaken? The USCIS extortion line was appalled that we were asked for this co sponsor when Matt is earning well over the poverty guidelines.

I kept telling her that we filed our 1040 and our 2555 foreign exclusion income along with Matts Irish P60 for 2009,2008 and 2007 because he was residing in Ireland for the last 5 years, and how was it that when our DCF petition stipulated at least 6 months residence prior to filing the petition was Matt supposed to have been working in the States?

She still insisted on a co sponsor so my fabulous father in law is very kindly rushing the paper work from the states to Dublin in order for me to get the visa/passport in time for our leaving date. Ive just sent the payslips and the proof of domicile off to them because they refused to even look at them yesterday at the interview.

I swear Im up to ninety!

  16. Hiya,

I've just filed my I-130 and I've been looking at the forms that we are going to have to fill in.

In particular the affidavit of support.

My USC husband accepted a job in the states (Minnesota) recently. He starts his job on Jan 18th and his annual salary will $65000+

We have already signed a lease on a gorgeous condo and he is travelling there from Ireland on Jan 16th.

Im expecting my interview to be scheduled in a few months and I was wondering if my husbands new job would be enough for him to be my only sponsor (I'm afraid that he may not be working there long enough by that time, also he hasn't has any US income for the last 10 years as he has been living here ) or would we need someone else to act as joint sponsor?

Theres also a good chance that I may be offered a transfer from my company in Ireland which also has a few locations in Minnesota, in that way my income may be taken into account as well.

    Thanks in advance :star:

UPDATE: I had my interview today and YES they did want a co sponsor, despite supplying a letter of employment and 6 weeks worth of payslips. I'm absolutely gutted and shocked.

  17. good luck, take the evidence you may feel it will help although they may not ask for it at all and you will feel you wanna throw it in the nearest garbage of the embassy:)

tax 2009 for the petitioner and previous years won't hurt or co sponsor papers whatever your situation.

don't worry it is an easy talk like i was talking with a friend,or someone asking about my life with the motive of curiosity and i took it easy.

Hiya, I had my interview in dublin today and despite my husband earning 65k a year there, they want a co sponsor cos he hasnt been working over there long enough (6 weeks) I was knocked sideways, last thing I expected. So be warned!

  18. We got our sons CRBA approved in the embassy pending further evidence that Matthew my husband was living in the US for more than 5 years.

We hadnt given that part of it much thought because Matt still has a strong american accent and we assumed that that was enough proof but not for Dublin.

We applied for our sons passport at the same time and I received it today, along with a certificate of citizenship for him. Not sure about the SSN though. Must ring the embassy and see if they have our new US address to send it to.

Just for those wondering about receiving a SSN after the CRBA in Dublin, I received my sons SSN last week to my irish home address.

  19. uk2usa2010,

Thanks for clarifying for us-- I remember reading that somewhere, but was confused by the fact that the pdf entitled "DS-230 Part I" is actually the full four page document (Parts I and II). Also, I'm not sure if you care about the money, but my husband was able to get his vaccinations for free from his local GP-- if you just take in the forms from the embassy, they would probably be able to suss out which ones you needed. Of course, easiest to just get during your medical evaluation, if the money isn't an issue. I think the two my husband got would've been 60GBP at the evaluation.

    hdouthit,

Just to clarify, did you see this on a checklist from the London Embassy, or Australia? I've read that the instructions and process are different from each embassy. I don't remember seeing one from London that says to send back both parts immediately.

Dublin Embassy sent out DS-230 part I with packet 3 and the they sent DS-230 part II with packet 4 and the interview appointment.
