  1. My wife came on July 7, after 4 weeks waiting for her SSN arrive (checked to receive SSN automatically), there was nothing until I made a call to ask about that. They said, they didn't receive anything, then tell us to come to SSA to apply my wife's SSN. My suggest is "not to wait for your SSN to send home, should apply it when you could" (We are still waiting for GC, hopefully will receive it soon - just got NOA2 for OS155A) :-)

  2. Thanks hniHnitsuJ :).

Yup, she came here on July 7. Everything was ok, except we had to buy a lot of stuff for our moving. I'll wait for a few weeks to see what will be coming first. :) Thanks again.

  3. Is your old address is belong to your parent or your relative? It's better to keep the old address. IMO, don't make any change will creating more problem, and confuse USCIS, and delaying GC, and SSN for her.

GC should receive in 1 month, and SSN should receive 7 or 8 weeks.

    Thanks hniHnitsuJ,

It is my best friend's house. I also thought to keep my old address with the USCIS, and only change the address for bank accounts, driver license, credit card accounts and work. (These changes are gonna prove for applying 10-yrs GC later).

Wow, We will receive SSN from 7-8 weeks? That's too long. Could I go to SSA office and apply it for her? (usually it only takes about 2 weeks if we apply at SSA office). I saw your signature, it said you received SSN in 11 days. :)

  4. Hi,

Could anyone please help me to answer a few questions about address change?

We are going to move to another address, but not far from where we live now. Could I keep my old address (where we live now) to receive any letters from USCIS later? (GC or SSN?) Or I have to inform them for the address change to prevent any issue later? (Of course when we fill out any forms with USCIS for 10-yrs GC or Naturalization application we have to give them the address where we live currently.)

Where we're gonna move to is only a few miles away from where we live now, so it's not a problem for me to go back there everyday to check mails. (and I don't want any delay to receive GC if I change the address)

Also for the SSN question: Should I wait for them to send my wife's SSN or go to SSA office to apply it? If I remember correctly, someone talked about this somewhere in the forum. They said The USCIS will send GC and SSN to us after a few weeks (if we ticked the SSN part, usually we will receive SSN in about 2 weeks after our arrival). Please correct me if I am wrong :). and thanks a lot for answering these questions. :)

  5. I used Fedex 2 times.

1st time: 2 lbs cost me $98 for 5 days.

2nd time: 1 lb cost me $84 for 3 days, I asked if I want 5-7 days delivery, you know what it cost more than 3 days delivery (about $87)...lol...(they always deliver sooner than their scheduled time, I love their service - but it cost money  )

I know it was so expensive, but it's worth when you send something is important.

  6. The Consulate's gonna look for all evidences to prove that the baby is biological child. If there were none evidences, then they're gonna require a DNA test. One of the evidences is "both parents' physical presence in the state/country at the time of the child's conception (e.g. visa stamps, airline tickets, airlines printouts)". If you can prove this, and have your name as father of the child on BC...then you can go ahead to apply the CRBA for the child. If you cannot prove, then a DNA test will be required.

Due to your situation, I think the consulate will require a DNA test (The baby was born 10 days after your wedding). They will count the baby was born out of wedlock. (The child's conception was not after the wedding). Anyways, it's just my thought. :)

  7. Don't worry so much about all of that. She will see other VN and can ask them for help. Also someone I know who came over just found a agent and showed them her ticket and they called someone to lead her to where she needed to be at. The airports all know about people being lost and have everyone on the lookout for lost looking people and get them to where they needed. Teach her to say help.

Thanks luckytxn, my wife just bought a ticket for $1050 by ANA (good deal - but better call to the Airline to confirm if this ticket is authentic - have heard of fake tickets were sold a lot :) ). When she talked to the travel agent, he told her that he's gonna give her an IOM sticker for a small service fee. (With this sticker, she will get help by a Vietnamese service agent at any places she comes) :)

  8. She just called a few agents, prices for one way ticket weren't less than $1350 (July 10-15).

@Mr.Saigon: You got good deal

Thanks everybody, I'm so glad that I know this forum and I'm very grateful for your help.

  9. Thanks Scott...Let us see. Hopefully I can get a ticket less than $1400  . Ah, do you know any services that can help people on the way to US? My wife doesn't speak English, I need a service that help her on the way. :help:

  10. Old fashion?

Did you not read my earlier post why there is a THI in the first place.

When was the last time you went to Vietnam? Everyone that I knew who were female had Thi in there name.

I'm sorry, I saw you quoted my post, so I thought you asked me about my daughter's name (Why I forgot "thi" for my daughter's name) :). I misunderstood, or did you quote it wrong? :)

The people in Vietnam, they started naming their children using 3 or 4 words without using "Thi" a few years ago (because "Thi" sound so "Se'n" maybe?). It's hard to find "the kids" using "Thi" as their middle names recently. (I don't mention the people that you know, because they weren't born last few years ago) :). You can ask your relative who live in Vietnam what they're gonna name their children if they have kid? I'm sure they're gonna name their children without "Thi" :D

  11. Like I said above. My daughter's name is Nguyen Ngoc My Hang. ("Thi" was used for old fashion). Nowadays, I think nobody's using "Thi". The parents now named their children using 4 words or 3 words without "Thi" (Maybe a few of them are still using "Thi")

  12. You shouldn't change the order of the middle name. Just see it as one word "Thi Thu"...We just switch between family name and first name.

  13. For example: My daughter's name is Nguyen Ngoc My Hang (writing in Vietnamese)

    Nguyen : Last name

    Ngoc My: Middle Name

    Hang : First name

Then it be showed on the letter as: Nguyen, Hang Ngoc My

So yours will be the same as mine. It should be showed as: "Family", Hang Thi Thu

  14. Got everything and sent to my wife this morning. Fed-ex's staff told me that the package will be in HoChiMinh city this thursday at 6:00pm. Hopefully my wife can get it on friday morning and hand it in on the same day. Wishing the CO won't ask for any proofs of bona fide relationship and put us in AP like ToanTien's case  (Wishing our case like Kevin&Tuyen's case) . Last interview, the CO kept our daughter's passport and CRBA that my wife brought those with her (the copied ones). I'm praying for Pink Sheet. :)

    Thanks Huong&Phung :)
