  3. It was almost as much trouble to get a driver's license as to get the K-1. Not really, but it was a hassle anyway!

Hi Dave, thank you so much for helping.. I was able to get my license today.. They called Indianapolis branch and ask about if my documents are acceptable. They accept my approved AP as an acceptable document and issued me a learner's permit. They gonna mail it in few days. For now i have my temporary permit and can start driving! =)

I got my GC approval too which is great! =)

      Good day!

  4. There are lines in Indiana Code that tell what to do. You need the I-797 for your I-485 to prove you are "in process."

  5. Instructor was sick last time. She takes the driving test tomorrow.

  6. Instructor got sick last time... driving test tomorrow. Did you manage to get your driver's license yet?

  7. The instructor got sick and she does the driving test tomorrow. Did you manage to get a driver's license yet?

  8. Congratulations! My son and my wife Cibele's youngest daughter live in Greensboro.

  9. She does the driving test on Friday. We'll see if she gets the license. They say she will. If they know what to do with a K-1 in South Bend, it should work. But the know now in West Lafayette, so your chances may be better here.

  10. I don't think they like "foreigner's" in that office.

  11. The license bureau in West Lafayette didn't know the law. You only need to take your I797 showing that you are in the process of applying for AOS, plus visa, etc. They tried to say that the I94 was the key date, but they didn't know the law. You should go back with all the documents PLUS the I797. If there is a problem ask for Joyce and say you have a K-1 visa and she should know what ...

  12. I'll let you know next week. We sent the AOS in May 06, and got the notice of receipt about two weeks later. Biometrics scheduled for June 10. What does it mean that they moved your case to CSC? I'd check to see what that is if you already haven't.

  13. marriage certificate, which wasn't required. Joyce looked at it and said, "We need to see the original." We argued, but she backed off and let her take the test. When she scheduled her for the road test, she told Cibele, "you need to bring the original of your wedding certificate next time." Well USCIS accepted copies, but not Indiana??? And it is not a requirement for a li...

  14. also needed two proofs of her address. She had her social security card, but they NEED the envelope they sent it to you in too. We gave her also the I-797 that had her address on it. Joyce said that they couldn't use that. We argued, "it is a government document, sent to her home address." Joyce said, "We never took them before, but we'll send it in and see what happens....

  15. she took the test and scheduled the driving test for next Friday. The big-shot woman up there (Joyce) wasn't happy to see us again, as I really argued with her last time. But when I went in, I asked her if she had heard from Tom, the guy in Indy. She said yes. So they needed an English translation of her Brazilian license, her passport/visa, and the I-797 receipt for the I485 filing. They...

  16. If your license from the home country is not English, you need a translation. Then a social security card, passport, and I797 receipt for AOS. We'll go tomorrow and if there is any problem I'll tell you. I have worked hard to find the right person to get this all sorted out.

  17. I have been working to get the driver's license in Indiana. After several calls to Indianapolis, and several emails to my representative, then calls from someone higher up at the BMV, we have got it arranged. The law allows a K-1 to get a license, but the local agencies don't know the law. As of today, I am told, we can go to the license branch. I will probably go tomorrow.

  18. The attempt to get the driver's license was a nightmare. She didn't get it. They are claiming that the license can only be good for the life of the I-94. We explained that the I-94 is irrelevant after you get married. I called Indianapolis. They knew nothing. I sent an email to the state representative Sheila Klinker asking her if she can do anything.

  19. She decided to go on Tuesday, and I'll let you know. I read the regulations and it only requies a valid visa and your I-94, along with the other documents, like birth certificate, etc.

  20. I don't know why someone should have to wait for a green card to be able to drive. That is outrageous! If true I will call Senator Lugar's office and complain.

  21. I am in a professor in the Pharmacy school, in Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. Good luck to you!

  22. She's going to get an Indiana driver's license on Monday.

  23. Hi! I am a professor at Purdue University. drdave@purdue.edu
