  1. Last year I was in the same exact dilemma. I thought that since Efe and I had been through the entire grueling process, waiting for the interview for almost a year, then at the least we should be together to support each other for the 'final step'- aka the interview. I didn't end up going to the interview and here is why:

In our personal situation it just didn't end up being necessary. It would have been GREAT to have had 2 weeks off from work and take a vacation to Turkey and be with Efe for the interview, but it just wasn't realistic/necessary. It was a better use of my vacation days to take time off when he came here so that he could get settled in, visit family, friends etc. Looking back it was also nice to save the plane ticket $$ for AOS. Efe was really confident that he could rock the interview on his own, he told me that he didn't need me there. Also, after the interview he told me that he was sure that the interviewer had already made up his mind about the visa before the interview itself began. So in our own personal circumstance me being there wouldn't have made a difference. Also, not being able to set firm travel plans to fly back together was another negative. There is always a chance that the interview result could be AP too. So for us it just wasn't worth it but I'm sure that you can find people on here who had very different experiences. I think that you have to go with what feels right!!

  2. Everyone might answer this question differently because of working with various embassies, etc. but I don't believe that tax transcripts are required (assuming that you have copies of your tax returns- i.e. 1040). Before sending my husband the I-134 papers I contacted the Ankara embassy to ask exactly what they wanted, and the only supporting documentation they needed was the past years tax return (showing you meet the income level) and that's all. I think that if you just send the 2009 and 2008 transcripts and corresponding returns that would be more than enough supporting documentation.

  3. The embassy website you are referring to is this, right? http://turkey.usembassy.gov/media/pdfs/k1k2_instructions_101510.pdf

I found these official K1 visa instructions to be very clear and helpful.

Medical report will not have to be translated. What is the appointment letter from NVC? Don't forget about the I-134 and all of the DS forms.

If you have any more specific questions let me know, as I just went through this a few months ago.

  4. Definitely don't lie- tell the truth. When my husband went for his tourist visa a few years ago we were nervous about this too, actually really nervous about it. During Efe's interview they asked who he was visiting, he said 'a friend,' and then they asked if I was his girlfriend and he said yes. If your boyfriend is applying for the tourist visa and has strong ties to Turkey (i.e. school) then in my personal opinion I think that you be in a favorable situation.

  5. I asked my husband what he thought about this situation and here is what he said (not sure how helpful this information will be, maybe you already know it): He thinks that he can definitely get the visa. After your fiance graduates, he can also delay his military duty for 2 years. Efe also thinks that, for example, if your fiance were to go back to Turkey and the military service was overdue, that they would track that when he goes through customs in Turkey. Hopefully you can find a more solid answer.

  6. I know that my situation is a little different, but Efe already had a tourist visa before starting the K1 process. It took about 8 months from our 129F submittal to interview (and we knew beforehand that it would take at least this long) so we decided that Efe would try to come here while waiting. It was a big gamble, and a lot of stress in customs, but he got through. I don't know if your fiance will be approved for another visa but if he gets it that would be great.

  7. My husband is from Izmir and he decided to go to Istanbul for a day trip and also get his medical interview done. He spent the night with some friends and picked up the envelope the next morning. He did this about a month before his interview. I think that they can only go to the medical in Istanbul or Ankara (if my memory serves me correctly). I hope that this information helps. There are more specific instructions in packet 3, which you can find on the Ankara embassy website.

  8. Definitely don't arrange travel beforehand, especially because the interview result could be AP, which means that you wouldn't get the visa right away. I think that for Turkey you go can go with your significant other to the interview, but in my personal situation I didn't go and I am glad because it wasn't necessary. The actual interview itself for Efe was very short and painless.

  9. Hi and Thanks Nicole for reply! I'll start looking into the DS forms. I think I already have a draft of it, but no, Kadir has not signed them yet. I am hoping he will return back to Adana as he only has 3 mos. left on his contract. I know he wants to get back sooner than later. Since we just started our file (WE GOT OUR FIRST NOA1 today!), it's going to be a few months as well before they finish reviewing our file. If the forms are only downloads from the USCIS, than that's no problem. But what about his official documents that are in Turkish? That's my concern. I am thinking I have to have a set in English to accompany the Turkish birth certificate, Police Records, Army Discharge, etc). Thanks for helping me Nicole, Mari

If he'll be out of the army in 3 months then it seems to me like he'd have plenty of time to prepare everything with you at that time (until you need to send in packet 3). Efe's brother did obtain Efe's police clearance and birth certificate, as well as have them translated, when Efe was in the army so that those documents would be ready. You could have Kadir's parents do that if you think it would help.

  10. Packet 3 is simply an e-mail to Kadir to let him know that he can download the instructions off of the embassy's website and fill out the forms and send them in. If he doesn't have access to the internet then this might be a problem. In that case you will probably have to call the embassy every once in awhile to check in.

Has he signed all of the required DS forms? Efe and I actually completed this forms when he was doing his military service, but at least he was allowed to send them back to me.

One last thing, I don't see any problem with you sending in the forms. I was prepared to do this if Efe was still in the army, but it worked out that he completed his service a week before we were told that we could send in packet 3.

  11. I just started my first full time job this year (just graduated college) and make enough money to support my husband on the I-864.

For the I-134 the Ankara embassy told me that even though I make enough money currently, since that information is not on my 2009 tax returns (I was only working a part-time job), I could not sponsor my husband alone and I needed a cosponsor for the I-864. The Ankara Embassy told me that they based all income requirements off of the tax returns.

Does this hold true for the I-864 as well?

  12. Hi, I've been reading through the threads about the i-693 for AOS and it seems like no matter what you send in it really just depends on 'luck.' My husband is adjusting his status from a K1 visa. He had his medical interview in Istanbul only 2 months ago. They would not give him a copy of the DS-3025 but he does have two vaccination cards- one in Turkish and one with 2 vaccinations listed on it from the Istanbul medical interview.

My question is to those that have adjusted their status in the past year, what medical papers did you send in with your AOS application? I'm interested to hear what other people from Turkey have done.

    Thank you!

  13. Hey thanks for your help! Did you call them before you sent the I-134 and got your interview date or did you just recently call them? I have everything filled out for my aunt and she will co sponsor, but I just recently did this and sent it to Levent to bring to the interview. I didn't submit an I-134 for my aunt in the packet prior to getting the interview date. I'm nervous that Levent will bring it to the interview, and they will say it should have already been submitted and delay the process.

I had emailed them probably 4 times, but they only responded to one. They gave a pretty vague answer and only answered one of my questions. The interview is coming up soon, so I'm starting to get really nervous.

I did send the I-134 with packet 3, before I got the interview date. It's good that you were able to send the co-sponsor's I-134 to Levent. I'm sure it will all work out fine for you guys- because you do, in fact, have a co-sponsor.

When I needed questions answered immediately, and they weren't answering my e-mails, I had Efe call for me. Every time he has called he's been able to get through to someone and get all of his questions answered in detail. The downside to that is the immigrant visa line is only open on certain hours. Good luck!!

  14. I was actually in sort of the same boat. Graduated college in 2009, submitted the I-129F in January 2010, and I got my first full-time job in March 2010. I didn't think that I needed a co-sponsor but last minute decided to call the Ankara embassy to double check. To my surprise, they said that my full-time job wasn't sufficient, and the I-134 is based solely on the 2009 tax returns (they were really firm about this, even though I told them that I currently had a full-time job and all the paperwork to prove it). I would think that the only thing you can do is call/e-mail the embassy and ask what to do. They are usually pretty good about responding to e-mails and answering the phone!

  15. Hello Friends,

I would appreciate help from people who RECENTLY got an appointment from Ankara for the k1 interview.

I am wondering about the soonest date they can give. I am checking Ankara's web page where it lists all the interview times from now on. Today is the 17th of August but there are scheduled interviews for the 24th of February of next year. I am guessing these are for the people who voluntarily picked those days, but I am not sure. If our package arrives in Ankara just now, and if we ask from them the soonest possible date, which date would we get approximately? Any ideas?

    Thank you for your help.

    Ratatat

Efe's original interview date was about 6 months from when he received the appointment date. The Ankara embassy has always been so quick to reply to all of my questions (via e-mail) so we decided to send a quick e-mail to the embassy asking for an earlier appointment date. We did end up receiving an earlier appointment date. We didn't put any pressure on ourselves about the e-mail. If they said no- we were meant for the late December date and we would be happy with that. But since they did end up saying yes hopefully that's how it was all supposed to work out. Good luck to you.

  16. It can't hurt I am sure, I guess if we do it politely and not email them every other day...They haven't responded to my email yet.. I also called

NVC, they said they can't do anything either.. :(

I've e-mailed the embassy a few times and they always reply to my e-mails quite quickly. Hopefully you'll get a response soon! Let me know how it goes, I'm going to be drafting my e-mail tonight.

  17. Hi all-

I hope that everything is going well for everyone. A couple of random and important/unimportant questions:

    - Efe and I finally got our NOA2, and I hope that Ankara has received our petition by now. If all goes well, hopefully we'll at least know our interview date by July 1st. I guess that our interview could be anytime from August- December. Efe wants to be in Turkey at the end of September for his friends wedding (his two best friends are marrying each other:)), and we can't decide what to do. We were thinking that he could come here on his tourist visa (which he already has) from July-September, and then go back to Turkey later for the wedding/ K1 interview? I just would hate for something to go wrong and customs not let him through when he gets to Philadelphia. I know that this topic has been exhausted (visiting while waiting for the interview) in the general forums, but if anyone has any opinions/advice/experience with this, please let me know!

    - What's our best bet for Turkish TV in the US? Do any of the popular providers offer Turkish channels? I've searched and haven't found anything but very random websites.

    Thanks!!

  18. This is a double post, sorry! I figured I would have better luck with responses in this sub-forum.

I know this topic has been exhausted, but can anyone who interviewed at Ankara let me know what they included with their I-134? It seems pretty straightforward, almost too straightforward- but I don't want to overlook anything.

    I'm including:

    - Signed I-134 (this doesn't have to be notarized, right?)

    - Photocopies of 2009 W-2's and 1040 (should I include 2008 and 2007??)

    - Letter from my bank stating 2009 deposit amount and current balance

    - Employer letter and paystubs

    I appreciate any feedback, thanks!
