Congrats. I am excited to know where you might be entering into the us and how that goes.

Not sure if I wrote about this previously, but here goes. Kwame had to go back on June 17 to get his visa, they told him to come at 7am, which he did and he didn't leave until 1pm when they closed. He didn't get the visa, they told him to come back Monday, June 20 at 3pm. He said there had to be over 100 people in that room waiting for their visa. One person said this was her 4th time coming and she lives in Kumasi; although I have no idea what type of visa she was getting.
Kwame and I decided to buy his ticket even though we didn't have his visa, mostly because he would have to leave the country within 3 weeks because of his medicals expiring.
He went today, 20th at 3pm and he got the visa! So the gamble paid off.
He is taking Delta out on Friday to ATL and then to my home. I am hoping all goes well in ATL. I have seen reviews and they all say it doesn't take very long; he has a 4 hour layover.
I will post what his experience is going through ATL once he is here.

My husband was appoved for the visa and will be going to get it Friday. If everything goes well, he will be here next week. Not only because I want him, but his medicals will expire and he must leave before that. Looking at various airlines it looks like he will probably take United from Ghana into DC. I serched the site, as best as I could, and found many people with reviews for their K1 visa with entry from IAD. I wanted to know if anyone that was coming in through DC on an IR1 visa and what there experience was. Thanks.

My husband went for his second interview today. Last time they told him he didn't have proof of my daughter and I time in Ghana, tax transcripts, and the new birth certificate. He had everything today, although he did have the documents we were there. Anyways. So he was scheduled for 1:00pm. He got there and he had to hand the Ghanaian all his information. He proceeded to give back the 08/09 tax transcripts for me and told Kwame they only need 2010. This time Kwame said no, the consular told me I need all of them so please keep it and if they tell me I don't need it then I will take it back, the Ghanaian listened. After that he went to sit down and waited until 5:10pm or so. After that they called him up, asked him for his passport. He told him that because it was so long since he had to leave the country within 3 weeks otherwise he would have to start over...not quite sure at which point, but that doesn't matter. He is supposed to go back at 7am on Friday the 17th to get it.
We are looking at him flying out of Ghana on the 24th. I live in Nebraska so flights are really hard to do and super expensive. I am looking at Emirates and then a domestic flight. When I fly out of Ghana I usually just price them myself by going to the airline offices myself.
I wanted to know if anyone one of your sigo has ever used a travel agent or do they also just go and check the airlines themselves?
This has been a long wait and I understand everyone’s pain. The only advice I have is just wait it out. We have all been there. Just try and be positive as much as possible.

I wanted to know if someone has ever had luck contacting the Ghana Embassy and speaking with someone directly about your case? I have a couple of phone numbers, 233-30-74110, 233-30-741775 but I don't know which one is correct. I want to contact them in trying to push up my husband's second interview date, well at least just bringing back the correct paperwork. I did email them and they sent this generic response back
We endeavor to schedule interviews and return interviews in the shortest
time frame possible. We understand the time sensitive nature of our
cases and work to issue visas to qualified applicants as soon as
possible. Our case load dictates the dates that are available.
Unfortunately, due to the large volume of applications here in Accra we
are not able to honor your request of an earlier appointment date.
Any insight is appreciated

I sent a copy of my own taxes. I had no idea that you needed tax transcripts, I never even heard of such a thing. I went to my local IRS office and got a copy of them. I looked back through all my paperwork and even on the interview letter it specifically states tax returns. Its so frustrating. I guess other then that, he had every other document. He has copies of mine and my daughters passports and her visa and my resident permit, pictures of us being there. Silly me I thought a CO job was to look through information?!?!
-
I didn't mean to say special taxes, they were copies of taxes that we (my dad and me) filed from 2008-2009-and my 2010, not my dads and she said they did not have any of them, which is impossible because my paperwork had to have been completed with my 2008 tax information. Does anyone think calling will make a difference?

I sent with him documents in folders with titles on them. He told me when he went in he had to give a ghanaian his documents and the ghanaian told him that they don't take folders and just to put everything together; I know that is not the case because I have friends who have done this. And they were copies of what each of filed for your taxes. So when the information was given to the CO I don't know. I just was frustrated on how they treated him and the fact that she said she doesn't have time to look back at the documents, is that not the point? Didn't I just pay thousands of dollars for you to sit and look at my documents? Its frustrating and I know I am venting a little, or well a lot. Just a long journey and then to have this happen, puts a wrinkle in my plans. Trying to stay positive.

So my husband had his interview today and he did not get the visa. I sent a TON of documents down to him, which were all in folders with tags on the outside explaining what everything was in side. We had a special for for taxes, for myself and my dad from 2008-2010. Well the CO told him that he doesn't have the tax information. Kwame said it was in there and can he show her where it is at and she replied she doesn't have time to look again. She also said that he doesn't have proof that I came after the baby was born. I sent him copies of my visa, or daughters visa and passport showing we were there for a month and again she said she doesn't have time to look. She told him to return in June with the correct documents. Really? June? I am planning on emailing the embassy asking for an earlier time because we have everything and he has copies with him in Ghana. I am astonished this happen, very upset, very dumbfounded.

Ok, thanks. Will he get a packet of information saying what he will have to do next once he enters? I thought I read somewhere that after 3 years he has to apply for citizenship because of his IR-1? Not sure though

Hello everyone,
I have been looking around this topic and can't seem to find my way, so if this question has been posted yet, please let me know where I can find the answer. My husband wont be having his interview until March, but I wanted to know what comes after that. He is on a IR-1 because we were married for at least 2 years before we applied. Does he have to file an AOS or is that just for CR-1? I am just looking into the future to see. Thanks.
-
Thanks! Ya, they already have them from when had to send them the first time, but didn't know if i needed them again.

Hello,
My husband will be having is interview next month and I was wondering if the DS-230 form and an AOS for the interview? He has all my tax information as well as my dad because I do not qualify and need another person. Any information will be helpful.
Thanks!

Hello all,
I received a letter tonight that my husband has an interview March 22. I am not sure why because I know its not a typcial time to grant interviews, but hey I am taking it. He is planning on going to Holy Trinity for his medicals so I will update when that is done.
As we all know, this has been a LONG HARD time and I am thankful it was my turn and have an actual date to look forward to.
-
When was your case completed?
-
Congrats. This gives me hope. My case was complete Jan 5 2010 so hopefully we will be in February or March, yea!

Hello all,
I wanted to let everyone know that I did send a letter to the Dept of State as many of you did and I received an email today telling me the same song and dance. An overwhelming amount of DV winners and short staff, I even put in the letter that I know about that and yet they told me the same thing I told them. So no movement, but just thought I would update that they are still saying the same thing.

What I still don't understand why certain visa's are faster. My case has been completed since Jan. 5 2010 and still no interview yet there has been people who started after me, case completed after me, and still have an interview before me. Does anyone know how they schedule the visa's? Thought it was like a first come first servce basis type of thing, who ever is done first gets interview first.

I see that you posted on your time line that NVC sent your information to the Ghana Embassy. How did you find that out, but just calling NVC or did they send you an email?
One thing that I don't get is that they seem to process each visa at a different rate. I am doing the IR-1 and my case has been completed since Jan. 2010 and I have yet to hear anything and according to your profile your info is at the embassy. I thought the interviews were done based on a priority date?
Also, the governor of my state is my mom's cousin and I have asked him, as well as a senator that is a family friend, to help me out and their hands are tied. We have all tried to get my husband here quickly, but nothing. Everything is up the Embassy and no government official here can do anything. But I do like how we are making it painfully aware to the US Embassy as well as others that it must change or go at a faster rate to process these visas.

Where did you go to expedite the visa? I am looking to do the same because I have to student tecah this fall and we hhave a daughter and it is impossible for me to student teach with my daughter. If you can email me jkubila@gmail.com and let me know that would be great!

Greetings to all…
Well just a quick recap…our case completed at NVC in October 2009. In March of 2010 we sent an expedite request; it was finally answered and granted…husband’s file reached Ghana in April 2010. They gave him his packet this morning….NOW can someone tell me why his interview date is scheduled for October 19th, 2010????????????
That is outrageous to me.
I am sitting here thinking is this expedited?
I am sitting here thinking that if I was still in NVC would that mean that our interview would be years away.
I want to be happy I really, really do.
Having a date puts a goal in mind BUT 4 months and 14 days away from now
…I am confused and sad.
There must be a mistake somewhere…I am not even sure if there is anything that I can do or who I can contact….
I am just a skittle bag full of conflicting emotions. Please don’t think that I am ungrateful it's just that the timing just does not make sense…
Any thought(s) are welcomed...

Hello all,
I wanted to let everyone know that my husband got his social security number first, about 2 weeks after entering the country and his green card about a week later. He is now off applying for jobs, yea! As my journey is complete right now, in about 3 years I will back on the boards updating his process of becoming a citizen, oh I can't wait for that fun to begin. Thanks everyone for the advise, and I know I will poke in and out and hope I can shed some light on others, never give up, eventually you will all get an interview, even though it seems never ending. We have all been there before you and know the struggles, the only thing to do it wait and be patient!
