FYI - I just got an update from USCIS that my case is put in the "Oath Scheduling Queue" and that I should allow up to 45 days to receive the letter with the date of my Oath Ceremony.
Is that consistent with your timeline?
Got the letter, Oath Ceremony is to be held October 28th.
Soon this long long journey is over =)

K & M did you get to do your oath yet?

Nope, still waiting for that letter.

Hi.
I am a N-400 December 2013 filer.
I had my interview for naturalization on July 21st (26 Federal Plaza - Manhattan - New York City), and I was recommended for aprroval. Since then I did not receive any new information.
Somebody is in the same situation?
I will appreciate any information that can tell me what's going on New York City District.
Thanks.
I had my interview Aug 18th, still waiting for an Oath date.

When I sent in my application (as in less than 1 month ago), I crossed out every 'five' and wrote 'three' instead. I did this for travels abroad, places where I have lived, and work history. Then, of course, I filled out the form with information going back 3 years only. If they need additional information about the past, they can ask me at the interview.
Interesting. I could do that.
Although now with the government shutdown I can't get any info out of IRS... so application on hold for now :/

There is a tiny line in the instructions that say if you are using the 3 year rule every line that says 5 years you are to read as 3 years.
Oh! Really, I must have missed that. Do you remember if that is in the N-400 instructions PDF?
I'll have yet another look, thanks!

Hello I was reading your post and I was surprised that you got your green card the day I got mine. I'm like what a coincidence lol. Anyways. You include trips only for the past 3 years since you became a resident (thats for a and b) try to remember the exact days, if you can't put approximate. You should be okay if you look in your passport for the stamps that will tell you the dates. Good luck.
Thanks Silkafi88.
That's what makes most sense. I know the exact entry dates but I'm unsure of departure dates.
I will go with a good approximation.
Thanks again for your feedback!
And yes, that's a coincidence, or maybe it's not, maybe someone over at the USCIS was actually being productive that day
Who knows now though with the "Government Shutdown" and all. At least we have our GCs that last for a loooong time so no real rush.

Hi all,
I just want to make sure I understand the N-400 instructions correctly.
I'm applying for a citizenship based on 'being married to an USC for 3 years'.
I got my GC 12/27/2010 and can send in my application now.
Part 7 of the N-400 form ask me to state
a) Total # of days I spent outside the US during the last 5 years
- This would include the 2 years I was not living in the US, should I include those days?
b) # of trips I've taken outside the US during the last 5 years
- How do I treat the 2 years I was not living in the US?
c) This is pretty explanatory, I just need to provide information about the trips I've made since I became a permanent resident. Now I just have to remember the destination and dates for my 24 trips :/
Thankful for any insight on the a) and b).

Mardar, it would be great if you could fill out your timeline.

We're October 2012ers too.
-
Sorry to hear that...
And thank you for the info
BTW, are you Oct 2011 filer? I don't see your name here...?
OOOPS!!!
So sorry, I'm an October 2012 filer. Please ignore me
*silently backs out of the room*

Went to the ASC office today to do my biometrics (again). I get there and am "greeted" by two rude security officers telling me the office is closed.
Yey! Way to go! They asked me to come back later. I asked when, they replied "within 87 days".
For others out there, this is the Manhattan ASC office (201 Varick Street [Varick/Houston st]).
*sigh*

I've been here (NYC) for over a year now and it was hard in the beginning before I got my work permit and found a job.
Took me roughly 4 months to get my work permit, then 2 months to get a job so all in all about 6 months.
I took some classes at NYU while I was waiting. To learn but also to not have a gap in my resume.
It helps that I have some Swedish friends here but as has been mentioned IKEA is a good food source.
If you're in Colorado maybe you can take him to an Avalanche game?
Swedes have a tendency to like ice hockey.
I travel some with work so I tend to go back to Sweden every month or once every other month. Quite lucky like that I guess.
Meetup.com works, but sometimes it seems to be more for people who wants to meet Swedes than Swedes wanting to meet up if you know what I'm saying.
What else? If he does snus then northener.com is a saviour (although I quit when I moved here).
Maybe his university has an alumni chapter there? My Swedish university (KTH/Royal Institute of Technology) has a NYC chapter with some 20 members.

This is incorrect and hurtful. I double and triple checked my package against the guides and stickies here, posted questions, researched everything.
I got an RFE requesting a passport photo of myself, even though I had sent the two requested with the original petition. They must have lost the first round of photos.
Also, as Martin and Tricia posted, they got an RFE for a birth certificate even though they sent it with the original package. VSC lost it.
These RFEs are not our fault, which makes me suspicious VSC is just doing anything to buy time. Please do not post your incorrect judgments.
I found the information regarding submitting passport photos very confusing. Especially since they were changing into digital photos for some of it at the same time.
I ended up submitting 7 pictures (all named and signed) to be safe. 2 for EAD, 2 for AP, 2 for GC and 1 extra.
Most likely only 2 were needed but 7 seemed to work in my head when I wanted to be safe
Let's hope you're able to clear the RFE swiftly.

My husband applied and was approved for the "Capital One cash rewards for newcomers" about 6 weeks after he got here--he had no credit history at all before that. The credit limit is very low, and the interest rate is high, but we really just want to use it to build a credit history for him, nothing else. Someday he'll apply for a card with rewards. My suggestion in general is to wait until you've been here long enough for your SSN to be in the system, you have a bank account, and you have a job...but it sounds like you have all of those things! Have you tried applying for that particular card? Good luck!
Ooh, that sounds like an option.
I read about secured credit cards but there must be a better way.
The Capital One cash rewards for newcomers at least sounds like it has some benefits tied to the card.
I'll look into it. I did apply for an American Express, they said they had to send a form that I would have to fill out and that my employer would have to confirm (my salary, job etc).
We'll see how things turn out.
Thanks a lot for your replies guys!

Hi all,
so far my transition to life here in the US has gone really well.
I have a wife, a life and a job here so that's great.
However, I am trying to build some credit rating and am wondering how you guys did to acquire credit card(s).
It's a bit of a catch 22 where I can't build credit rating without a credit card and I can't get a credit card without a decent credit rating.
I make decent money and have a good history from Europe, but does that matter?
Any ideas/suggestions?
Preferably I'd want a credit card with some rewards (like frequent flying miles, cash back or similar).
Thanks!
M

I got my European bank to change my address to my US address then send me a statement.
That worked in my case.

I received my AP and EAD last week, and just got an email saying my greencard is in production. My file was only transferred to CSC on the 1st of December. Excitement!
Sweet! Congrats!
And I thought my processing time was fast
-
I guess my husband could have gotten his state ID, but it just never occurred to us. The IO made it sound like we could have gotten my husband a state ID with his social security number only, but I don't know the actual facts. In Illinois, state IDs are issued at the DMV, so maybe you should check with the DMV website for the state you live in.
BUT if your case was transferred to CSC, you probably won't have an interview anyway, and so it won't matter. I'd say you don't need to worry much about it.
Wow, that WAS really fast. Congratulations to you!!!
Yeah, I was really surprised myself.
Just thought I'd throw in my $0.02 here.
I went to DMV here in New York City to try to take the Driver's Licence test.
I brought a lot of documentation. The guy told me that they can't issue a Driver's Licence nor an ID to me because my I94 had expired.
It's stupid, but he said my status right now is "applied" not "approved". With my I94 still valid I was "approved" and could have gotten a driver's licence.
I asked him if I could come back when I had my EAD but he said he'd need to see my Green Card before he could let me take the test.
Rules might be different elsewhere though. Just thought I'd share that.
I couldn't really figure out how to multiquote. Sorry.

On January 11, 2011, we ordered production of your new card
AOS approved! w00t!
Much faster than I expected.
-
Next step you will need the Social Security Number with card in hand you can reply. The Social Security office said it takes 10 days for the Homeland Security Computer to update. For my daughter we were able to get the card production going and received it in about a week. To change the name on my wifes card is a work in process. She had a card issued several years ago. Tried to update the name with the Marriage Lisc the first business day after the wedding and was told I could not as my K-1 Finacee was now out of status as married. Still waiting on the wifes new card with proper name.
Good Luck and thanks for the well wishes on our Interview
Um, say what? Hehe.
I already have a Social Security card. (I got that like 3 weeks after point of entry as a K-1)
I didn't change my name.
Do I need to get a new card?
-
Oh, that's good to know. Thank you.
Hopefully I will get it that fast too. Would be really nice if it came before I might get that job offer
Good luck with your interview!
At this point with our case, the next day the status changed to Post Decision Activity and the EAD card was received only 4 days later in Seattle
-
And now 1 hour and 20 minutes later:
Application Type: I765 , APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION
Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production
On January 6, 2011, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you.

N-400 November 2013 Filers
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted
I might be a bit late to the party but filed my N-400 in November 2013.
Had my Oath Ceremony yesterday, almost a year :/
