  1. hi,

I know it can be a little bit confusing going through most of the threads on VJ. Your fiancee should expect to get an interview date set for late march or early April. You do not have to wait for the embassy to send you the requirement though. Just go through this link {http://photos.state.gov/libraries/nigeria/231771/Public/K1Packet.pdf} and start preparing. Its the exact same info Lagos will eventually send via email to you. He can then go ahead and walk in for his medicals 1month before his interview date. Goodluck.

Any chance you can send that link to me in my email? For some reason it was a broken link on here?

    slazzaro1@gmail.com

Also, are you waiting for the adjustment of status? How long will that take do you think? How long after can you travel freely?

    Thank you for your information.

  2. Yes, we got two of those letters, a week apart, that say it was going to be sent on within one week. It wasn't however, in spite of that.

Good luck for when you call. Have the info you need handy.

Well everything was forwarded and received by Lagos Dec 21st according to the NVC, and they should be sending his packet at some point.

I guess we continue to wait.

  3. I'm sorry, but that is not the case. Plenty of quite straightforward petitions have been, and are, held up at NVC. There are two entire threads on this issue in the NVC forum. Two that spring to mind as bone stick simple, were held there nearly as long as I was. Hasn't a thing to do with high fraud or low, most of the petitions on the original thread were low, or no fraud countries. And almost every one of those was not complicated, had no red flags to overcome. When asked, they will tell you it is random. I was told at interview at the NZ consulate it was random.

I rarely post on here and I always am confused on the jargin and terminology.

We got a letter, now rereading it, it must have came from the NVC. It stated they received our approved petition and it would be forwarded to the Embassay in Lagos within one week.

The letter was dated Dec 22nd. With that being said I plan on calling NVC today (on my lunch break) to see if they have any information.

Our case is very straightforward and no cause for red flags. We actually have everything prepared through an Immigration attorney (as a side note) and she told me we could contact the embassay directly via email, which we did with no reply. She has stated that it could certainly take longer than a month, and that we should just contiune to be patient.

My thoughts were personal experiences a lot of times can make people feel better, hearing similar stories and thats why i reached out.

thank you for all the imput, we just have to be patient.

  4. No worries. Quite a lot of people don't know that petitions go to NVC, or that there is a chance they aren't sent right away.

Best time to call them used to be in the evenings. We used to call between 8 and 10 PM. Be aware you need to speak with an actual person, the automated status check does not have K1's on it.

thanks for the info. what number is best?

  5. All petitions go through NVC. We were sent two letters to say that our K1 was approved, and was being sent on to Auckland NZ. In fact, the petition was not sent. It was held at NVC, and we were stuck there in AP for nearly 8 weeks. That is why I am asking if you are only going by the letter they sent that says it would be forwarded, or if you know in fact it has been sent on.

They do not necessarily forward in that timeframe. Be aware it can be as short as 2 or 3 days, or take quite a lot longer.

Oh i see. Ok I didn't realize that. I thought that the notice that it had been forwarded and received that meant they were preparing his packet and it would be sent soon after. They were having some political issues there recently following our petition approval so I chalked up the wait as a part of those things. I didn't realize I could contact NVC. I will call them tomorrow.

  6. ok i believe I have our case # already. So once Lagos gets it, how long does that typically take b4 he would get his interview packet/date?

Yes, when I emailed lagos I did put the case # in. They didn't respond. its been a week so i am assuming that they feel their auto response answered our questions.

  7. I am just wandering how many people have had issues with their fiance's interview packet?

We received the noticed that our i-29 petition was approved and the letter was dated December 22nd.

He hasnt been contacted at all as of yet about an interview or sent any paperwork.

I am just posting to see if anyone else is experiencing this time frame from the Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria.

I have sent an email and called several times with no response.

The auto reply says too allow up to 4 months to get the packet but according to what Ive researched its typically sent within a month.

    Any reassurance would be helpful.

    thanks.

  8. Our case was fowarded a few weeks ago to the consulate in Rio de Janeiro, but I still haven't received a packet from them and I still don't have an interview date. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've tried e-mailing the consulate, but I'm not getting any solid answers from them.

    Thanks!

I am also having this same issue. Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria. We actually received the notice on December 22nd! Still no packet or date! I also sent them an email and tried calling with no reply.

I don't have any idea what the issue is. Seems like its taking longer than it should. Good Luck!

  9. I can only speak for myself and my own experience in Nigeria, but I too agree that I don't think Nigeria is unsafe for whites. I've traveled as a young/attractive, white female twice and had LITERALLY zero issues. We traveled around Lagos, and outside of the city. I was treated as a celebrity and NEVER felt threatened or unsafe at any time.

Living in Lagos may be different then visiting, but the electricity issues and traffic/GO SLOW..are too crazy to get around freely and easily. It may make it hard to start a business. I think Nigeria may be there in a few years, but not at this moment. If you could establish a good business tho..there are PLENTY of good workers in Nigeria who need jobs. There are so few good ones available.

    Good luck!

  10. Have you tried contacting an Immigration Attorney?

When I started this process to get my Nigerian Fiance here it was over 6 months ago. I went for a free consultation and wanted information bc he had been denied to tourist visa's in the past 3 years. When I went to meet with her she told me Nigeria is VERY difficult to communicate/deal with. They don't respond well over the phone or by mail. She has 15 years of experience with Africa and Nigeria in particular. I would at least consider getting an attorney if you can. We are working with her now...Just waiting it out at this point. 5 months as of the 15th since the recvd the petition so we are just hoping for an approval soon.

    Good luck!

  11. Wow..Edward from Pittsburgh? me too!!

No we did not get a request for more information.

I am following everything online USCIS web and it says 5 months is typical. No red flags at all. Neither never been married and according to our lawyer we are assured we will be approved. What do you mean is the lawyer telling us something we dont know?

    GOOD LUCK everyone!

    And jealous your spending xmas!

  12. Hi there!

We are on the same boat. Exactly 5 months on the 23rd!

2weeks ago, our lawyer called the USCIS and they said it's still within normal processing time of 5months.

He told us to be more patient and that it will come anytime soon.

It's so easy to get impatient and hopeless in times like this.

But for my fiance and I, we just stay positive and keep thinking that it will come in the right moment.

We just need to keep ourselves busy with other things to prepare for the big move.

Let's keep on praying that the visa comes at such time that we can still make it there for Christmas or New Year!

Thanks for saying that. Ours was the 15th...I am praying and praying hard!

Its comforting to hear someone is in the same situation. GOOD LUCK too!

    Thanks again!

  13. Hi all,

First time posting anything on here.

We are in month 5 of our approval for I-29F.

We haven't heard anything and the website keeps saying the same thing.

We did hire an immigration attorney and she assures us we should hear soon.

With the holidays approaching I am becoming very impatient.

Just looking for any positive comments and inspirational information to keep me motivated/patient.

    Thanks,

    Lekans Girl
