  1. Hey everyone,

My interview is coming up this Tuesday, and I have a list of stuff to bring....

    1. passport

    2. Scotia bank fee sheet

    3. 2 photographs (print name on back)

    4. OF-156/DS-156

    5. DS-156K

    6. birth certificate (long form)

    7. marriage certificate (if any)

    8. termination of previous marriages

    9. police certificate(s)

    10. court records (if any)

    11. Affidavit of Support and signed OF-167 attachment (they will also ask for income tax returns and the W2 as supporting documentation)

    12. medical (they do not ask for the chest x-ray so you don't need to bring it with you)

I've heard that I also need a copy of my birth certificate, is this true?

The Scotia bank fee, how much is it? and why does it have to be from a Scotia bank? Can I not give them the fee from my home town bank CIBC?

    Thanks, I appreciate all responses!

  2. I am kind of freaking out because my interview is this Tuesday, and I keep coming across these forms that I've never heard of and am reading that I need to fill them out. The DS-157 has to be filled out by all K1 visa applicant males between the ages of 16 - 46, is this true??

It wasn't in my packet 3 either, so I'm not 100% sure that it needs to be filled out, any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks guys!

  3. I just went on to the us embassy website and it says:

*Important Notice for All Visa Applicants*

All applicants applying for nonimmigrant visas must use the new DS-160 application form.

After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be provided with a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to their interview.

The DS160 visa application must be completed a minimum of three business days before your scheduled appointment. Failure to comply will result in a delay of your interview and your appointment will be re-scheduled for a later date.

NOTE: If the online application has not been completed fully and properly the applicant's case cannot be processed and a new interview appointment will be required.

This first pilot version of the DS-160 will only be available in English. Future versions will allow the user to see translations of the site in other languages, including French.

My interview is this coming tuesday which will only be 2 business days. When I received my packet #3 it never said anything about filling out the DS-160, does anyone know anything about this, I'm really concerned, If anyone can give me any feed back it is greatly appreciated,

    Please help!

  5. Hi,

I have just been given an interview date of July 20th in Vancouver, and I need to book my medical. My issue is I just renewed my passport on June 28th, and it'll be in my hands by July 13th at the earliest. I need my new passport number in order to book my medical, so I can't book it yet. I'm wondering should I book my medical with my old passport number even though it has been canceled (expires Jan 2011), and just hope that my new passport comes in by the time I get my medical? I have called the passport Canada office and there is no way that they can speed up the passports arrival, it's already in production and they can't do anything about it. From what I have read they only do your medicals on Wednesdays, so that would only leave me July 14th for a medical date, is this true that they are only open Wednesdays?

Please, if anyone can help, I appreciate all responses!

    Thanks!

  6. Hey everyone,

I just sent in my packet 3 with the check list, I was told that even if you don't have everything complete on the check list you can send it in as long as you have it all done by the time of your interview. I will be going to the Vancouver consulate for my interview, I was wondering what I should do about booking my physical, do I book it right away? do I wait till I have my interview date? I am wondering because I don't live that close to Van so I would prefer only making one trip there.....Any suggestions?

Also curious if anyone knows how long once the packet 3 is sent in is the wait for the interview in Vancouver on average? as well as is there a long wait for getting a medical in Vancouver?

    Thanks, I appreciate all responses

  7. Hey guys,

I just received a confirmation letter from the US embassy in Vancouver that told me to fill out the Packet #3. I am filling out the DS-230 and wondering what exactly needs to be sent in with part 1? Just part 1? or part 2 as well? Do I need to send in my birth certificate, police records, passport pics also? Any information will be very helpful! Thanks! I appreciate all responses!

  8. Hey guys,

Once I pass the interview and get married, I'm going to be applying for the I-765 (employment authorization) among other things. I was just wondering once we apply for employment authorization, which can take up to 3 months from what I've read, would I be able to apply for EI or UI? (unemployment insurance) and collect EI while I'm waiting for employment authorization?

    Thanks, appreciate all responses!

  9. Hey guys,

We have applied for the K1 visa, our I-129f has been approved and we are now playing the waiting game. I was looking over the medical vaccination list and I have most of them I think except for Hep A & B. From what I have read I can get both of them if I get the vaccine Twinrix over a 6 month period. Has anyone recently had a Hep A and/or B vaccine? and if it does take 6 months to get it, is that going to push back my medical exam and final interview?

    Thanks, we appreciate all responses!

  10. Our I-129f petition has just been approved according to the USCIS website but we haven't received the NOA2 yet. We just want to know what to expect and what we should be doing in the meantime? My fiance needs to start filling out the I-134, the only issue is she just graduated from college and is waiting to hear if she has been accepted into grad school. She is currently not working and has not had a job in the last 4 years. She doesn't really know what to put on the I-134 since she is not currently employed. We have a Co-sponsor, who is filling out a I-134 as well, do you think her not being employed will be a huge issue?

    Appreciate all responses, thanks!

  11. Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen from BC and my fiance is an American citizen from Iowa. We are thinking about filing a K-1 visa over this coming holiday, but first I had a couple questions.....

Once we've filed the k-1 visa will I as a Canadian be able to leave the country? I won't be traveling through the US at all, but I was thinking about heading over to the Bahamas, anyone know if I am allowed to do this?

After my fiance files the k-1 visa is there anything that I as the Canadian need to do immediately after up in Canada? I understand that I will eventually need to go to an interview, just curious if there is anything else that I need to do right after it has been filed?

I've also heard that in some cases the k-1 visa can go through and be accepted in 60 days, has anyone ever heard of if going through this fast?

Thank you, I look forward to reading what you have to say

From start to finish? Absolutely not. I don't even know where you would've 'heard' that. Not even expedited ones (which are expedited for VERY good reason usually, which you have to prove) are rarely that fast. Get ready to settle in for a few months.

Please, please read the guides. I don't know where you would've had the impression that you can't leave Canada.

Have you heard of the Packet 3 yet?? And all of the other documents you will need to obtain such as the long form birth certificate, and police certificate... and the medical?.... anyone?? Bueller?

I heard that it possibly could be processed that quickly from a immigration lawyer, but I guess she's wrong.

I haven't heard of packet 3 yet, I'm still new to all of this, I have no idea what our first steps should be, we are hopefully going to be applying for the K-1 visa over this coming holiday.

I'm going to spend some time this evening reading the guides....

  12. Hi,

Filing for the K1 visa in no way restricts your travel to other countries - i'm not sure why you would think that?

Not much for you to do except get any documents you may need, like your long form birth certificate.

Do you mean accepted as in ready for an interview - or waiting for the interview in Vancouver? Not sure what timeline you are actually speaking of?

yeah I guess I mean accepted as in ready for an interview.....I've heard that Vancouver is actually a fairly quick place, when it comes to getting an interview.

  13. Hi,

  14. Oh trailmix, always saving the day and keeping the peace.

So, given the fact you live in BC and you want to move to the US as soon as possible the K-1 seems better suited to you, as long as not being able to work and travel for the first couple months is not a major problem. Going through Vancouver will speed up your processing time by quite a bit, compared to the long waiting list Montreal currently has. We did the K-1 and are very happy we made that decision, despite the AOS process we had to go through later. It may be expensive, but its not very long or complicated for most.

So, if we do decide to go the K-1 route, how can she prove that she can support me while I am there for the 3-6 mo? Are there guidelines on this? She is an undergraduate student right now and graduates in May (she's college-student broke). She will then move on to graduate school, and she doesn't have time to hold a job.

  15. If you get married in Canada especially Montreal she will not get your last name.

    I would do option 2.

I even think they process k1 faster.

Actually what mstangie posted is accurate.

But I guess it's more fun to ridicule someone who probably has english as a a second language and is quite new to these boards.

I'm from BC, does this mean that she won't get my last name? I don't understand why she wouldn't?? But I'm new to all of this, I have no clue.

  16. Some questions I have for you before answering:

    - Where do you live. The reason I ask is, depending on which province you live in you will either interview in Montreal or Vancouver, for a K (fiancee visa). Vancouver is faster at scheduling appointments than Montreal.

    Manitoba and West: Vancouver

    Ontario and East: Montreal

    - What are your priorities? If getting to the States as fast as possible is your number 1 priority - that's one thing - if money and boredom are also issues, then you may want to consider the CR1 visa as you will be able to work as soon as you arrive, you won't be able to with a K visa.

As for getting married in Canada, overall it's the same as getting married in the U.S. - you apply for a marriage license, find someone to marry you - that's about it. If you want area specific information (like how long it will take to get the official marriage certificate from the registry office so you can file your U.S. immigration paperwork) - we need to know where you live.

So a few more details please - and welcome to VJ :)

I live in BC, and we just want to be together. From what I've gathered the K-1 takes 6-9months and then you have to apply to work which can take 3 months. Or we do the Cr-1 which takes roughly a year, but you can work soon as I get to the States. Do you have to wait until the visa (k-1 or Cr-1) goes through before you schedule an interview?
