  1. Hey all - just got a rejection notice for ours...grrrr! but at least they say we can re-send - reason: "the application was filed on an outdated version of the form". I've gone through all the forms and none have expired soooo kind of lost. The I-864 we filed expires on 10/31/2010...maybe that's it?

I'm just glad it was "rejected" and not "denied", right? I plan on sending attempt #2 early this week.

Thanks in advance if you guys have any ideas/advice!

nvm just did some more research and did not use the proper 485 form even though it expires next year...silly me

  3. Hi all - just wanted to happily report that we were approved on May 20th, received the visa on May 26th, entered the US on May 30th, and were married last week on June 8th in Hawaii surrounded by my family and friends. Oh how sweet it is to be together - the blood, sweat, and tears were so worth it!! Wishing you all the best! will be back in a few weeks for AOS, but taking a break for now from immigrationtalk for a while...it's nice to just be husband and wife for a while, ya know? :D

    All the best!

  4. Hey all! just wanted to happily report that we passed the interview last Thursday! I guess we switched the Sworn Statement form which (although we were first at the consulate) pushed us to the end of the interview line, but whatevs...we had 5 hours of togetherness with other VJ couples (hey minme :))

We also decided to pay the express TNT fee to get the passport/visa to Bira in Sao Paulo (R$240) this week since our trip to the US is this Sunday!

I can't believe we're at the end of this leg of the journey!

For those of you with interview dates to come, God Bless you...you'll be fine!

  5. Congrats on the interview date!

and good to know that this new form does/may not have anything to do with us.

Another question - my fiance' has no record of his vaccinations for whatever reason, should he just go ahead to the free clinic and get the shots done? or just go ahead and set up a medical consulta with a doctor from the approved list in Sao Paulo?

I was thinking the latter, but what from your experiences would make the most sense?

  6. Hey everyone - still in the final few days of waiting for our NOA2 and looking ahead to what's next...

just checked out the Rio consulate site and saw this notice (not sure if we've already seen this, but):

    http://brasilia.usembassy.gov/index.php?action=materia&id=8787&submenu=2&itemmenu=10

Brasilia, March, 2010 – As of March 15th, the State Department will be using a new form in Brazil for visa applications. DS-160 is completely electronic and will replace the forms DS-156, 157 and 158. The new form, which will be mandatory as of April 5th, will also allow photographs to be uploaded. Even with the implementation of this new form, applicants still need to schedule an interview and pay the fees.

    and this here: http://brasilia.usembassy.gov/index.php?action=materia&id=7213&submenu=riomateria.php&itemmenu=183

    **********************************IMPORTANT NOTICE****************************

    * The application process for U.S. visas will change as of April 5, 2010. Appointments made for April 5 and beyond REQUIRE that you complete the new DS-160, and upload your photo electronically. As of March 15, you may access and fill out the new form found at this link: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

    * For appointments made for April 5, 2010 and beyond, the Consulate will ONLY accept the new DS-160 form. Applicants who do not present the DS-160 form as of April 5,2010 will NOT be interviewed and MUST reschedule their appointments for the next available date.

    * Your DS-160 application must be completed no less than 2 days prior to your appointment date.

    * For additional information about the DS-160, please click here.

Just wanted to post here since it seems to impact all of us as a heads up.

    beijos!

  7. I'm glad someone else got this.. and I hope it put a smile on your face..

It's been a super tough week, more so than usual..

    Maybe I'll watch Dead Poet's Society.. :D

    haha you guys are great!

I just got back from 5 wonderful days in Sao Paulo with Bira...just seeing each other for those few moments was exactly what we needed. Returning to the US and walking through customs/immigration without him is torturous, but knowing that in a few months we'll be skipping through the border together...ahhhhhhh!! I almost started crying when the border officer asked about my visit in brazil and I couldn't help but blurt out that soon and very soon he'll be crossing these borders with the K1!!!! haha officer man looked at me like I was crazy, but whatevs!

keep on smiling, skyping and stay encouraged everyone!

  8. When I visited L for the holidays, I brought him I-134 with my 2008 tax returns and a photocopy of my passport [required supplements to the I-134], as well as originals for our 'proof of having met / proof of relationship' (though we're adding to that portion of things). I don't know if I should have brought more, though. When I fly down to visit him / go to the interview, I'm bringing my 2009 taxes and some other things to add ti the 'proof of relationship' crapola.

awesome - good to know. I plan on going back for the interview with him as well and will hopefully have my entire package together to bring down on that trip. glad to hear we're on the right track!

  9. Oi pessoal!! I would like some advice pleeease...

Bira and I are waiting for the NOA2...I'm the American, He's the Brazilian. I'll be going back to Sao Paulo to visit him in a few weeks (for Carnaval/Valentines/annnd our Anniversary all in the same week!! whoohooo)!! Although I've read through this whole forum (so much GREAT info!), I'm wondering...what types of things should Bira be doing now to prepare for our next steps on the consulate side?

I know he'll need the Police Certs/Medical Appt/etc., but is that stuff we can be doing now without an NOA2? I figured you who have gone through it would best know :)

I just want to be as prepared as possible, especially since we'll be together in 3 short weeks I would like to do my homework ahead of time and prepare any forms we should do together, original signatures needed, etc. He doesn't speak English well enough yet to comprehend the forms so I like to do the paperwork as much as possible.

Any advice, or if there is a step by step guide somewhere else, direction is much appreciated! Brigadao!

  10. whoa - this thread has been such a downer for waayyy too long.

Good news in Bira & Derice land (no, not visa related, but...) just booked my trip to see Bira in Sao Paulo on Feb 13th-18th!

SO excited! We'll be together for Valentines Day, Brazilian Carnaval (!!!!), annnd our 1 [official] year anniversary :) wooohooo!!

Any other positive, optimistic, not so negative, maybe inspirational news out there? ;)

I'm sure this is a community that can share in the joy of others and be practical about our individual timelines at the same time...no need to shove the annoyances of the system in our faces.

I think we could all use a glass of wine right now.

    annnd goodnight!
