Maybe this reply is too late, but you can just mail the same packet with the green letter on top as instructed. They've already processed it and found a problem, so you need to just mail it back with the correction.

The simplest answer - no, the passport doesn't need to be valid. Just take it with you during the interview. My passport was expired for 4 years when I did my naturalization, no problems, no questions, nothing...
-
yes! Me!
check my timeline below in signature....
-
If you are applying based on 3 years, then you put the past 3 years... otherwise 5 years. The instructions are not accurate so they generalize to 5 years. I've applied based on 3 years and I know many people who applied based on 3 years, and we entered information for the 3 years only.

Just don't miss any appointments. That's all there is to it.
In addition, make sure you still meet physical present and continuous residence after the trip.
Don't forget to tell your interviewing officer about the trip...
As long as the three statements above are true, there should be no problems taking as many trips as you wish...

Ceremony was awesome, they were very cool and the judge was nice and cool!!!!
I'm really happy!!!
They stated in the letter we should be there at 1:15pm and the ceremony was gonna be at 2pm (my letter had that information because I got it when I went to my inopass after missing the other ceremony. lol).
We got there before 1pm, checked in, gave the green card back (I gave them my old green card and employment authorization too).
The ceremony started a few minutes late but it was beautiful!!!
Then hubby, brother in law and I went for dinner. yay!
I will do the updates another day because it was over 3pm and we would have to go to different places, so, my husband will be on vacation soon and we will use one day to do all the updates.
I had this wonderful event today and I offer it in honor of my father in law who passed away in Dec 2010
and he was supposed to go out for dinner with us today.
Thank you God for staying with me during all my journey.
Thank you visajourney.com and VJ friends for all the help.
Thank you USCIS for allowing us with such honor.
Congratulations!!!

he can travel as long as he doesn't miss the fingerprint appointment or not reschedule it.
Make sure you keep records (if passport stamps) to update the N-400 during the interview...
-
No worries - others are correct. The expired passport is not an issue!
-
My suggestion - which is what I also did - is to be over prepared than under prepared. Take originals and copies of items you've already submitted. In addition, go over the application and remember the dates on it (travel, marraige, birthdays, etc...)
They may not ask for anything or they may ask for many things - no one understands their behavior.
Greencard, DL, passport, children birth certificates(if you have children)...
That should do it
Congrats!

Hi,
1- for part 3 (information about you)
question F: are either of your parents US citizen?
My father was a US citizen but he passed away, do I have to still answer yes or no?
Read the instructions as they requested.
2- for part 4 (addresses and telephone numbers)
question B : should I write my address again if it is the same as my home address in question A?
Yes, write the same information
3- for part 7 (time outside the US)
question C : I took a trip outside the US that lasted for exactly 180 days(from 1/30/11 to 7/29/11) the question asks if my trip took 6 or more months? should my answer be yes or no given the fact that 180 counts for 6 months if we consider every month to be 30 days but few few months were 31 days?
Tough one - technically, your trip was not 6 months as some would consider 1/30 to 7/30 6 months... however, you need to enter the number of days and the IO will probably determine that. Try to go through the Naturalization guide as I remember a form to fillout that will assist you with that.
Thank you very much

I doubt they will ask as the signature on the application is not the "official" one. When they complete your interview, they will ask you to sign it again and that's the official signature.
I agree with the previous posters that the travel dates, certain anniversaries are more likely to be asked. I remember in my interview that the IO asked me about if I still live at the address I listed as current and if I work at the company that I listed current. No address, just verified it they are still valid.

Sometimes USCIS decides to skip FPs. Why? Who knows except that most of us are aware that the FPs are valid for 12 months (?)...
Have you signed up online for notifications? For N400, they are actually pretty good...
-
You're sending more than needed...
if something else is required, they will ask you to bring it on your interview day - don't worry about it and just mail it in...
-
The fastest way is to wait 2 years and 9 months... then you can apply, just like everyone else.
I just want to know info about this details
If you marry someone you will have permenant resident card. After 6 month usually. But after it what is the best way to get citizenship?
And how long it take to get it at least?
Regards,

The questions are asking for one answer, so only memorize one (or two if you want to feel confident).
The civics exam is way easier than we expect. Just stay calm... it will go by so far that you won't even realize it.
It is good you are prepared for the N-400 answers. They sometimes like to ask questions from it and other times they don't - but if you are prepared and know what you've answered, then you are in good shape.
When you are reviewing your civics - have someone ask you questions randomly
Good luck!

All this information is on your N400 application/instructions or the USCIS website.
I recommend you send it in priority mail with delivery confirmation.
-
copies, copies, copies... everything except the N400
If you send originals, they will not return them
-
Yes - it takes time. when I went to get my SS updated, my service person was a rude guy telling me that he knows his job as he's been doing it for many years since I went there "early".

You are splitting hairs here. One thing I do want to recommend is that since you are applying right when you are eligible, I would wait until you come back... Ree presents a good comment that you are traveling and how will you fill your application on trips? You can enter when you return but what if something happens and you extend/shorten your trip...
Since there is no deadline, you can wait until you come back and get things taken care of.
That being said, the answer to your question is yes, you can apply since you are eligible, but the little wrinkle mentioned above should not be overlooked.
I was eligible for several months when I applied for citizenship, but I decided to take a conservative route and wait until all the possible issues were taken care of in my case - I moved twice (knowing that I will) so I waited around 6 months so all my paperwork is filed at the same residence and not rely on USPS and USCIS to forward mail and change address.... that's just me, but everything went smooth and I never had to think back and wonder why I couldn't wait. Sometimes "cutting corners" could intorduce delays at USCIS that take much longer than the couple of weeks you are trying to eliminate at the beginning.
my 2 cents!

Do you not have copies of your returns? THis is like the first rule of filing taxes... keep copies! If not, just do as all others advised and see how that goes.
-
There is nothing to worry about... you are just required to show up on the day they specificed and you'll be done!
Congratulations!
-
Make an appointment first - some offices require it and no walk-ins are accepted.
Also, take with you your ticket or itinerary to prove that you are actually travelling.
-
5 year residency will be much easier for you...
also, July 2010 is after you removed conditions, so doesn't really matter anymore....
You've waited this long, just wait another month and apply based on 5 years, much less supporting documents to submit...
-
They will probably look at your DL for a second photo ID type of thing.. your GC and the N-400 is what matters at this point

It is highly recommended to send a personal check. This way, you can tell when they cashed it, which is an indication that they accepted your application. In addition, you can always prove you have paid (in case something happens)
