Another simple Consulate pre interview question.
Does the sealed medical results envelope get handed over at the Consulate interview or the POE?
Thanks
-
Ours took a while too and wthout knowing why it was hard waitin while many others were moved along.
Then it popped out and things move a lot faster. Hang on it could be any day now.
At month 5 you can start really asking WHY?

We are getting close to our Consulate interview and checking over all our paperwork and noticed a requirement on the DS-156K.
THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS MUST BE ATTACHED IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR A FIANCE(E) NONIMMIGRANT VISA.
Evidence of Engagement to Your Fiancé(e)
Any feedback on what exactly this document might be?
Has anyone ever been asked for such a document?
We will both have recently dated and signed copies of the "Fiance letter of intent" as well as photo, email, phone call, postmarked letter envelopes evidence of our ongoing relationship.
We just don't want to miss anything...
Thanks

My fiancee called the Vermont DMV today and they said I can drive with my UK license for 60 days then I have to get a permit and go through the test all over again. That sucks as I had a Vermont driving license when I was a student, it expired 2 years ago so I guess that's why but I think it's stupid I have to go through everything all over again including logging my "learning hours" Oh well. And yeah it's stupid that we can't drive or can for a certain amount of time when visitors can drive I believe for up to a year. Oh well.
What a hassle!!
My fiancee will be here next month from BC Canada so I better call California DMV as well and see what exactly they want.
Pretty sure it's a total re-test. The whole thing is silly... just another price to pay to be with our loved one!
Well Good Luck anyway!

Are we not allowed to drive on a K1 visa then? How does it work? I assumed we would be able to drive for 90 days or something? Anyone have any idea? or are we not allowed to drive at all until we've got a license? I had a US license but it expired 2 years ago when my student visa expired. Now I just have my UK license and I really need to be able to drive my family about when they get here.
Thanks
For sure the K1 or any other visa is not a driving permit. It's weird because a tourist can drive for quite a while with their existing license. But a new non immigrant with no real US identification is required to acquire a local driving permit somehow It's sort of a disconnect in the system. Well if your almost forced to drive on another permit while pursuing the steps to get the correct one then be real careful as you drive.

DS-230 Part II is not required for the K-1 visa applicants as it is a non-immigrant visa, and the Part II is used for immigrant applicants. If you want, you might take that section along with you at the interview but they won't ask for it.
Hope this helps!

Thanks!! You know I figured it out right after I posted!
Now I'm wondering if we do the DS-156 OR the new DS-160?
-
We are doing our Packet 3 for the Vancouver consulate. Might be a silly question but what happens with Part II of the DS-230?
-
So COOOOOL MeggyMo your goin!!!!!!
-
Oh I am so happy to hear Van got your case finally!
They will be sending you packet 3 real soon! Do you have all the stuff ready to send back?
I wish we would have been more on the ball. Oh well I will have everything next week and I will be faxing the checklist to them. I am hoping for an interview on the 15th of June!!
We got most of it together I think. I hope you get the 15th that will be 3 or 4 weeks after you fax them the checklist.
That will come FAST

Yea, that's what I was planning to do. I just want to know how I say I am not going to stay "permanently" when I apply for the TN1 as the job offer is full-time permanent? Do I just say I am taking the offer for job experience and plan to come back to Canada?
At this point it seems like your going to work with a temporary (up to 3yrs) visa on a job that is classified by the the employer full time permanent. Obviously because they need your skills right now. How long did they say the job is for? Won't you officially be a temporary worker doing a permanent job?
So it's a foot in the door while your in Texas you might be approached by a company that needs your skills that will jump on the permanent immigration bandwagon with you since the state won't.
If something does not change while you're there you will be coming back to Canada with some job experience from Texas.
just my 2 cents worth...
-
So exciting you get to interview soon!
I think those are the only two things to pay for interview, but I'll be watchin your post because our case made it to VAN and we will be following you soon!
-
If you take the temporary 3 year visa that will give you lot's of time to find an employer who will offer you a job and hold it for you while you go through an immigration process probably a Labor Certification for a permanent green card.
I did it in 1989 maybe it's changed some so retaining a competent immigration lawyer to help you might be an idea.
Lot's of rust free cars left in the US that's what I like!

Canadians save.

One other thing the vehicle has to have a clear title and be paid for.

Thanks everyone for the info I will get on it Monday it will really help me to do my part to get us back on track!
CHEERS!!
-
No Vancouver is still processing k-1s. That is super odd though Bricar did you call the NVC and ask whats up?
Yea I called NVC twice tonight and 2 different people gave me the same answer!
I see you are going to Vancouver so that's good.
Just read in VJ WIKI everyone west of Manitoba go to Vancouver and those in Ontario and east go to Montreal.
Hope it doesn't take too long to fix...
-
Yes Thanks! That's what we thought!
I wonder what will happen when they see it in Montreal or how to do I go about getting it fixed?
NVC assigned us a MTL prefix on our case number. Do all the K1's have that or is the prefix different for Vancouver?
-
Just was informed by the NVC our case has been sent to the Montreal consulate. We have been assuming all along that we would be going to the Vancouver for the medical and then down the street to the Vancouver consulate for our interview since I live in California and my Fiance lives in BC.
I called NVC twice and they said Vancouver only processes non immigrant visiting type visas?
Have I been missing something here or did NVC send our case to the wrong consulate?
-
Good Info!
-
Approved yesterday!!
WOW what a relief!!
-
Wait, really? They will send it to me in the U.S.? I left Canada at 31, and have been here 15 years. I still would qualify?
Not only that but I was just reading on the CPP website there seems to be a Canada/USA agreement to combine or share pension credits with the either CPP and/or US Social Security.
I'm going to call them ... very interesting...
