  1. It varies from State to State but the DMVs should recognize and accept the NOA extension letter as a valid extension of the immigration status and issue a Driver's License that expires the same date as the immigration status 'expires'. As I didn't get an NOA extension letter, I got the I-551 stamp 2 weeks prior to my green card expiry. I had to renew my DL the following month and it was renewed to the same date as my stamp - in my case, for 11 months.

When i went to take my son to get his DL they would not accept a NOA extension letter we had to go and get his passport stamped.

  4. I sent my application to lift my conditions via certified mail and checked the tracking and this is what it said

We attempted to deliver your item at 2:58 PM on March 21, 2008 in MESQUITE, TX 75185 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

Any one know what happens now?

  5. Hi

You have to get married before filing for AOS and you can apply for your Advance parole at the same time as your AOS. I applied for AOS and EAD at the same time. Finger printing can happen any time. I had my finger printing done before my son, but if the child is not here and you get a notice for finger printing just change the date to a date when you know the child will be here, as she does need to have finger printing done before AOS. But having said that when my son and I went for some reason they had lost his biometric info so we had to go and have it done again, but he could not have it done that same day as our AOS interview cause he had just had his lip pierced and they will not take a pic with the ring in his lip and he could not take it out, so they stamped his letter and we just went back when he was able to take the lip ring out.

  6. Hello,

I am a permanent resident in the US, by marriage, and my husband and I are currently filing to have the conditions on my residency removed.

I am employed and work a full-time job for State government.

My greencard expires early April. I plan on sending out my packet by Tuesday (Feb. 19)

My question is: what happens to my employment status / eligibility if I don't receive that extension letter before my greencard expires?

Also: what is your preferred method for mailing the packet to Immigration? USPS? FedEX? Express Mail?

    Thank you very much,

    L.

I am in the same situation mine runs out at on the 4th May so I am sending mine in around the first week of March, just waiting for my letters from my friends to confirm they know us and we are still together + getting all the money together!

I was wondering myself about if to send it UPS or registered mail?

As for work situation you will be ok as once you get your extention letter that extends your current card for one year.

  7. Yikes this got heated. I'm not in the US yet, but I have say that my UK pension is something i've given thought to, and if someone wants to give advice on the best way to make the most of this money, I dont see why it should be a problem....

Good idea to start now, you only get what you pay for, you need to have a paid consultation with an IFA who is familiar with the needs of expats.

Everybodys individual circumstances vary, no single cookie cutter answer.

For money forums, you can have a look at:

    www.fool.com

    www.fool.co.uk

Yes that is exactly I have, I did not get this for free I did have to pay a fee but it was nothing compared to what I will make! This company I am dealing with are in the UK with representatives here in the US which I feel more comfortable dealing with someone who is local to where i live and understand UK pensions and know all the rules.

  8. If your advisor sic wants to advertise he should contact owners of this web site. I am sure they would be more than happy to assist.

If you think you are set for life with 22 years pension contributions, you need a new calculator.

Sorry but I have never had some one be so mean to me on here as you are!

You have no idea about my situation so please just be a nice person!! so no need for a new calculator i have taken good advice thank you!

After all we are all here to help each YES?

That is the last I will say on this subject to you.

  9. Excuse me i dont know what your problem is!!! I have been on this board a very long time and never been spoken to like this Boiler.

I am not miss selling as I am NOT selling silly!!!!

My pension in the UK was frozen and only going up at the rate of inflation ie 1.2 % so I had some guy arrange and did all the paper work to re invest it so now it went up last year by 10%.

I have got lots opinions from ppl who have done this do you think i would risk my very large pension which i have been paying into since I was 17 for 22 years !!!!!

I also have my protected funds in a private bank account which in the UK it is the law that half of your pension put into a company pension has to be protected the other half is invested in a choice of what risk investment you want to do.

For others I have not transferred this to the USA as you cannot do that, it will go up steadily and my protected funds are protected, I am under the UK laws for pensions not doing any thing wrong just looking after my investment there in the UK

I thought we were on this board to pass on info to help each other and that is exactly what i was trying to do.

I feel quite upset by your reaction Boiler, I feel that maybe I should not share my help with others and believe me this is difficult moving from the UK to the USA and every bit of info i know and have experienced I personally am a helping person.

    Thank you Crazy Brit

    :crying:

  10. no, i am female LOL, been on here a long while and thought it would be a very good idea for people to know that you can sort your pension here in the USA with a minimum of fuss. Honestly i am so glad I did this as i feel more at ease about my pension making some money for me.

  11. Don't forget you need a Social Security number to get a DL, i came here in May 2005 and took my text Oct 2005 but I also if I remember rightly had to show them my EAD or some proof that I was here legally.

  12. Hi all

I am an expat now living in the USA and have a contact here in Atlanta who can help you re-invest your frozen pension in the UK. I re-invested mine, I had been paying to my pension in the UK since I was 17 years old and when i left in 2005 it was frozen and just going up at the rate of inflation, now I have done something about it so it will make more money and it is working!!!! This person is totally trust worthy and knows his stuff, he took care of all the paperwork and keeps me fully informed all the time. Believe me he is worth talking to now i don't have to worry about my retirement as it is all taken care of and i will have plenty of money to retire to a good life.

If you have a pension you want to do something about, don't wait around, send me a message and I will give you the details of the bloke I am dealing with. By the way he is British too and working here in the US for a British company.

  13. wow that was fast i am getting ready to send mine at the end of Feb, hoping it will be as fast. My son graduates from school at the end of May and wants to join the airforce which he cannot do until he has his 10 year green card. The recruiting officer said to write a letter with the packet stating this fact to try and hurry it up, giving his name and address as a point of contact.

Well end of feb will be here soon.

  14. Hi all,

It has been so long since i was last obsessed with Visa Journey. I am back as i am going to send off my application to remove my conditions, plan to send it the end of Feb.

    I have some questions

    1) I came on K1 with my son K2 removing conditions for him on the same application as he still lives at home he is 18 i assume that is ok any red flags do you think? I have read and see none so far.

    2) son's passport expires Oct this year, need to renew i know but what happens if his biometrics appointment comes in when he is waiting for a new passport?

    3) Also son graduates school this year and planning to join the American Airforce we are going on Monday to see about this but i assume he will have to do his ciztizenship to join what would happen with his application then? Any ideas.

    4) How long approx before you get your NOA1?

    5) When do you get your letter to extend your current green Card?

    Thanks all in advance.

    Sharon

PS I see that some of the people I went through my K1 visa are still on the visajourney!!!

3 - you can only apply for citizenship if you have been a permanent resident for at least 3 years... conditional or not...

4 & 5 - they are one in the same and it can take up to a month or longer to get the NOA/Extension letter....

    Thanks everyone for your help.

it is funny getting back into visa journey!

  15. I am waiting to remove conditions on myself and my son. I am waiting till April because that starts the 90 days for my son's Green Card to expire. Mine expires on May 25, his expires on July 19th. I want to send them in together. Do you know how much it costs for two people to remove conditions?

We will be sending them both into Texas I see. Hope the NOA comes not long after sending it in. I have to renew my lisence on May 17th.

Good to see you back on VJ.

It costs a lot of money LOL like it always does it is around $645 i have it written down some where my runs out on the 5/8 so that is why i am sending mine off at the end of feb to be sure i am within the 90 days.

i feel like i have never left VJ
