  1. Visa approved!!! We are so happy   It was great being back in Kenya for a few days, too! Sifa will be coming at the end of February or beginning of March once he settles things with his job, visits family, etc. Yayayayay! I can't wait!!

As for the interview, it was really pretty easy - we were surprised how easy it was! We had a 7:00 appointment and got there before 6:00 am. We were 2nd in line, but they let us in first because I am a USC. They allowed me to go up to every window with him. First you go to one window to turn in paperwork, then to another for fingerprinting (the fingerprint machines were broken for a few hours while we were there - I think it took them close to 3 hours to fix them...but if they had been working I feel we would have been in and out in less than an hour considering how short everything else was!) We were called up for the interview almost immediately after fingerprinting. The guy who interviewed us was very nice.

He asked Sifa 3 questions: How did we meet? What kind of work does he want to do in the US? (Sifa said he wasn't sure yet, and the guy didn't have a problem with that) and what kind of work does he do in Kenya? Then he asked to see pictures of us together (I brought 10) and flipped through those quickly, then he said "everything looks good here" and to come back in a week to pick up the passport!

It is SUCH a relief to have this part of the journey ending and knowing that we will be living in the same country again soon! Thanks for your support everyone :)

Congratulations!! I am soooo happy for the both of you! Itsa nice to hear it was fairly easy! You guys give me hope!!! :) Cant wait till he is here!!

  2. Yes this is true! And that what i meant. Surely people know the conditions in Africa. I sent $40 and that was like soooooooo helpful to him because our dollar is strong. I just cant watch someone I love struggle so bad...

  3. Hello

I am new to VJ and so excited to have found this forum!! The information here is great! My fiance lives in Nairobi and I will be out there to see him in May!! I cant wait. We wont be filing until next year after I return from my trip but I am loving reading the exeriences!! I had a question about the medical... is it possible to do the medical stuff when i am there in May even though we havent even filed the K-1 yet? i want to get everything we can out the way when I am there so everything can be smooth sailing. Thanks again Sub Saharan family!!

Welcome Cherish! Glad to see you here and thanks for taking time to look through the thread. I don't believe you can do the medical before you have even filed. They need a case number and they also ask you when your interview is. Of course I am not 100% but I wouldn't bet on it. You can always call the medical center and ask. How did you meet your fiance? I met my husband while I was volunteering as an artist/counselor in Uganda in 2007. Wow, that seems like ages ago!!! I agree with Lovehasnoborders--what a journey it has been, it all seems like such a breeze looking back but the waiting was torture!

Right now we are living in Salem, MA, I am working as a therapist and my husband is going to school and refereeing soccer games. He got is 2-year green card in August.

I am also happy to see this thread alive and well!

  5. I hope this isnt a porblem either... I have only sent him money once but this whole process is super expensive and the money there is nothing compared to the money here....not that I have much!! But I can see myself having to send money for the whole visa process... Are they just concerned about money being sent for non visa expenses? <_<

  6. Hello!!

So I am quite new here but have been looking at the information on the site for sometime. Unfortunately I am still a little confused. My boyfriend lives in Kenya and we are going to begin the process once we get officially engaged on my trip there next May. The information I have seen is telling me this is an expensive process!! My gosh!

I understand the K1 and gathering evidence but the affadavit for support has me questioning some things. Is it 100% of the poverty line or 120%? I have seen both on here. Also I work almost full time but I am a student right now and get financial aid and loans. Will this count towards the income guidelines? I have two kids so we would be considered a family of 4 as far as the poverty limits are concerned, right? Also, if i needed a co signer, do i have to live with them? And how many would their income be based off of?

Once thats all said and done and he gets here, and we get married can he start working? I have gotten so many mixed answers here! I see some things saying that once you file the AOS the price $1010, includes the AP and EAD for working. Then others are saying you can file for the EAD and start working when you receive that. Help??

And the last thing is, when do we apply for the social security card? Once he arrives and after we marry?

Well I thank you for any help! I know how some people can get irritated with giving answers to others so if you could just point me to the forum if you feel that way, i would appreciate it too!!

    Thanks in advance!!
