  1. It has been awhile since I went through the forms; however, if I remember the i184 asks for your projected income, so if you move to her country do all the visa stuff and then move back it is what you plan to make in the year. The consulate should recognize that your earning power will change depending what country you live in. Also double check on the bottom amount - if you're working full time you should qualify. Hope that helps :)

  2. Hi all and thanks in advance for your advice on this topic.

Hubby and I are living happily together in Italy after a LONG (and unfinished visa journey) Check out my history if you're interested. Long story short, due to a confusion in his nationality the process was delayed and we were actually in love, so I temporarily moved to Italy to finish up the process. On the date of his interview (or probably the night before) his passport was stolen. All of Italy goes on vacation during the summer so getting a replacement took a couple of months. By the end of all this our lives were such a mess not being able to plan for anything, career, etc. so I just moved there to be together. Now we're both moving to New Zealand for my doctorate studies, so here are the questions:

    1. Can we put the visa app on hold and if so for how long?

    2. Can we transfer the application from the Naples Consulate to Wellington Consulate?

    3. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to keep it active so we don't loose our investment and the chance of actually being able to live in the US again?

As we have both worked for agencies the US gov't is a part of, I thought about that too, but our contracts were less than 3 months. Too bad the US doesn't have a "you've been happily married, living abroad for xx years so you can apply for citizenship' policy like every other sane country!!!

  3. hey everyone,

I am Canadian Citizen and my husband is US citizen. I received my interview date last year in December for January 28, 2010 but I had to reschedule it because my due date was January 29, 2010. We sent them an email regarding the situation and got the reply in February from the Visa department that they will reschedule the date and it will take 2-5 months. It has been almost 6 months and we haven't heard anything from them. I called the Visa department in US and they told me that your file is in the US embassy in Montreal and they haven't reschedule your interview date yet and they are very busy so just wait. Please let me know what should i do? its very difficult situation for us because we are living separately from last 6 months. how long does it take to reschedule the interview date? we didn't have any choice except reschedule the date :(

    thanks

Have hubby immigrate to Canada!!! Or have your husband contact his senator and ask for help - it helped our case along, until my husband got mugged (passport stolen) on his way to interview. :)

  4. Guys,

for the education question on Ds-230: do we need to make sure we don't leave any time unaccounted for? for my mom, I wrote about her grammar school and high school, but I only posted the dates for the academic year. i know that for the residence and employment questions, we were not supposed to leave out any period of time. i made sure to do this for residence and employment, but i did not think that this concept also applied to the education question

i am getting an RFE for this! the RFE also states that i did not fill out the question about my mom's military history. i did! she has never been in the military. and i made sure to put N/A where appropriate.

If your mom stopped after highschool that info should suffice. And who know why you would have military RFE if there was a N/A in the blank. Call and speak to a supervisor about it.

  5. Print out or copy photos - not in excess just enough to show you've been together. We put about 25 photos on 7 pages with a description of each. Also include chat/skype records and you can also add letters from friends "approving" or congratulating you on the relationship. No DVDs - all paper at this point. Not sure on the K-1, but for CR-1 "mingling of finances" is suggested. I added my husband to my Geico and credit card accounts - it worked fine.

  6. Thank you jeromebinh and Bernie for your input and knowledge. Awesome that you did this as well Bernie, and that is basicaly what I am looking at doing (not registering the wedding). However should I report the "unregistered ceremony" at all?

Looks good on the 2 visas, I am going to go with the K-1 first then CR-1 if all else fails, however I'm sure I"ll be approved, we've been dating for about 8 months and engaged as well, been there 6 times already :) Thanks guys again!

One thing to consider between K-1 and CR-1 is the working permits/green card. If working is not an issue K-1 is good, but if future spouse wants to work immediately CR-1 has more benefits. We were married legally outside of the US and are finishing up CR-1. Either way it's an arduous process, and I had to go to there to be with my husband since he cannot yet enter the states. We'll probably have a re-wedding sometime soon since one of our witnesses was a stranger :)

  7. Police reports that aren't available unless you're in the country to go and get them! The frustrating thing is I wrote a detailed letter with supporting evidence that there was no way to get the PCC's unless we physically went there which is not possible! I will call and talk to a supervisor on Monday. Wish me luck!

And shouldn't you be partying Sach? LOL!

It's worth calling the police dept. - somehow after at least 30 phone calls we managed to get one from Maldives. You can try the embassy (Nigerian) too. Lots of luck!!!

Just saw you sent in it already, never mind :)

  8. Just collected our RFE packet from DHL after realizing it hadn't been entered into the system. UPS is coming first thing Monday morning. DHL guy said they don't come on Saturday, to which we replied, well that shouldn't have been a problem since we dropped it to you on FRIDAY!!!!!

The post system in Italy is not as good as the pasta.

Sachinky - congrats on the interview and getting some action at the same time! ...

if the RFE packet is received May 19th is there any hope for a June interview?

(Now that we have the whole my husband is Italian and not Libyan situation cleared up)????

    A miracle maybe?

  9. :crying: My case is still under review?! At least, the NVC operator said so. Cannot imagine that, NVC received my case on MAY 6th. How long I should wait? another 1 week, or 2-4 weeks? I predict a JUNE Interview, possible?!

    ---------------------------------------------------------

How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways ...

It's only been 6 working days - not to be a buzzkill, but give it another week at least. Just keep calling the AVR - was it received on May 6 or inputted into system. Sometimes it takes a few days before it's opened.

  10. That;s crazy. How to get a certificate from Libya when his certificate was transcribed in Italy?

Did the supervisor actually tell you to use one of those reasons to explain why they dont have the paper copy of the Maldives PCC? Very weird.

Exactly - they had my husband documented as a Libyan National!!! He is Italian born overseas in Tripoli to two Italian parents!!!

The supervisor said to explain why I was including only a scanned copy of the PCC from Maldives.

I'm guessing now that they have realized he's not a Libyan national, the PCC from the Maldives will not be as critical.

    Boo NVC.

  11. just got off the phone with NVC... they somehow have my Italian husband confused for a Libyan national?

I think they finally understand why we cannot obtain a Libyan birth record for a birth transcribed in ITALY!!! I even have a letter from Italian consulate in Tripoli!!!!!

On our way to DHL packet for 3 RFE's - pulease let this be over already!!

Also per supervisor's advice - sending in scanned version of Maldives police report with explanation including all the reasons why Maldives hasn't mailed the report:

    I am at a conference

    the printer is broken

    I already sent it

the next day: maybe i will send it tomorrow

I am the only one hear

I don't know maybe next week.

    ...seriously.

  12. Don't hesitate... but I confess, I made myself wait until after 10. I don't know why, but I did. LOL

Yes, I know I want to speak with an operator when I call, I want to hear those words from a real person!

    CONGRATS!!! Finally!!

We got a scanned copy of the police certificate from Maldives today, the lady said maybe she'll send the real one today (hahaha) still awaiting birth cert and UK PCC!!!!

  13. Soooo.... Today sucks.

I woke up to a text message that my best friend and her husband want the phone number to call to revoke their sponsorship. Because I didn't go out with them last night so now they feel I'm using them to get Husby here. I'm sorry.... WHAT THE FACK?! We've been friends for years. Before I even considered the possibility of Husby and I spending our lives together. And now this?! Already I wasn't wanting to have them be joint sponsors, but now they want to cut all ties to me.

So, needless to say, they're pulling their sponsorship. Mother isn't feeling "right" about being joint sponsor. Dad has already said flat out that he will not put his finances on the line, but he will help provide Husby with employment once he gets here. Monday I'm applying for a part-time job at a hospital. Nights, every other week if I can get it. I can quit later, right, as long as Husby doesn't become a burden on society?

I remember reading somewhere that the income amount for personal sponsorship is what you project you will make. You can also use personal assets.

  14. Cixelsyd,

Great info! You sure have done your research. So you mentioned about proving that you have seen each other in the past year, well what happens when hubby & I havent seen each other in a year due to my pregnancy, our daughter being born almost 3mo early, etc. How will they interpet that? Should we be worried or?

Medical reasons should suffice, are you going to interview? And you'll have chat records; I would add any correspondence between you and parents-in-law, exchanging pics of the baby, etc.

Medical reasons are recognized - My senator's office said that the only reasons to expedite a case were medical and military (they have no love for love).

  15. Some Wednesday humor...

I am the USC and my husband is going through the Nasty NVC, while I'm sailing smoothly through the Italian Immigration system. Just a month after arriving in Italy, I went for my follow up biometrics appointment. Thus far I have a fiscale code (SS #), social healthcare and a permit to stay/work/play. Here's the best part, they have documented me as being a blond, green-eyed girl from the nation "Isle of Hawaii."

I have brown hair and hazel eyes  and though many Hawaiians fight for sovereignty, it's just not quite there.

As for the NVC, we're waiting on the Libyan birth certificate, PCC from Maldives and UK and considering living in Italy instead!

  16. Morning everyone, its very possible to get an interview for this week, I know Egypt does them at the end of the month. My g/f case was complete at NVC on March 18th and she got her interview email on March 28th. She tracked the only package going to Egypt and it left a day after completion. I tracked on the DHL site there were only 3 that were sent and they all arrived this morning 10am Egypt time, there is a 7 hour difference from me to them. So my case was complete on April 19th only one day after my g/f so maybe I will get my date end of the week. We shall see. It will be for June though as my friends was for May so we for sure missed that month.

    Fingers Crossed - good luck!

  17. Yeah, I suppose that's true as well.

Maybe it would give me a heads up as to what's missing as well if it's not a false RFE.

But thinking it's false is too wishful, I'm sure I've angered the gods of RFE somehow. Now I'll have to head to the store to buy a chicken for tonight's sacrifice.

On another note: do they only have 1 phone line? That thing is insanely busy almost all hours.

Every time I try to picture the NVC, I see this place with the greatest technology the 1970's has to offer, with computers that take up entire rooms, stacks of folders reaching the ceiling, random papers blowing around like tumble weed and all of it run by 2 people and 1 intern.

It was 4 biz days before we received the email - each time I called (at least once a day) the lady said they are preparing the email... Just call, but double check multiple times. As I posted earlier, if I had gone with what the first operator I would have had to resubmit!
