  1. So I've been patiently checking my AOS case status for weeks on the USCIS website and today I finally got an update. I'm excited, but at the same time a little confused... The update states that an interview has been set up for us at NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER on such and such a date. I'm wondering why it says NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER and not our local office. I haven't received the paper copy of the notice yet, and perhaps this will be clarified on the actual notice, but is this common practice? Do I have anything to worry about?

  2. So I have all my paperwork together and was going through it, double and triple checking. And I got to my birth certificate. It's a long form birth certificate that I had ordered a few years back because I had needed it for something else and only had the little wallet card. Anyway, so it's the original copy that I received from the vital statistic people a few years ago, lists all my info, my parents info, and the date it was issued to me, etc. The reason I'm freaking out a bit is I'm wondering if this is ok to submit or if they will want a certified copy of my original birth certificate. The one I have is on fancy paper and has watermarks and the whole nine yards, but there is no "raised" seal or stamp on it. It looks like this: http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/births/certificate_lg.html

Is this what there looking for? I'm sorry for freaking out and if this is a totally stupid question, but I think the pressure has gotten to me!! THANKS!

PS - I realize that I spelled long form incorrectly in my topic header but I can't figure out how to edit it!!Oh man, I really have lost it. :D

  3. On that thread it says that you do not require it. Also I was wondering about this as well I emailed the Vancouver consulate and asked if I needed this. They told me no since they already had a copy with of that in our petition

Hey MeggyMo - Thanks for the info! Did you happen to notice on their website that it says all non-immigrant visa applications require a DS-160. It wasn't on my K1 checklist so I've asked the Consultate if I need to complete it.

Also, now that the new fee has been implemented,do you know if we need to pay that? My interview is the after the 4th, but I've already paid the $131 fee. I've sent the Consulate an email about this asking if I'll need to pay an additonal fee.

  4. OK, so my interview is in less than 2 weeks. Nervous? Yes, slightly :) I'm trying to get everything in order and although I've checked the list on the Vancouver Consulate link on VJ, I can't figure out in what order I should put some of my forms (some forms/items aren't listed on the preferred order list). I think what I'll do is put my package together with a cover letter and order my forms like this:

    - Cover Letter

    - Letters of intent

    - DS-230 (there was no note of where this should go, so I've placed it here...)

    - Passport + copy of info page

    - 2 Bank deposit slips showing fee deposit made

    - 2 passport photos with name on back

    - 2 copies DS-156

    - 2 copies DS-156K

    - Original long form birth ccertificate + copy

    - My original divorce decree + copy

    - My partner's original divorce decree + copy

    - My police certificates + copies

    - Affadavit of Support + supporting docs

    - My medical results

How does this look? Am I missing anything? Any tips I should know? Wow, I'm surprised at how nervous I am!

Thanks very much for any advice!!

  5. Hi everyone,

To make a long story short, my fiance's income was below the poverty line last year. He now has a good job and earns more then the required 125% above the poverty line. We've got our K-1 interview coming up and have prepared the following:

    - Letter of employment stating salary and position

    - Paystubs from the last 3 months (can supply up to 6 months, if necessary, but didn't want to go overboard)

    - 2009 tax return (although the info shows below the poverty line!)

    - Letter from bank regarding his account in good standing, showing the account balance, etc.

Will we run into issues because of his low income last year, even though this year's is more than sufficient? Should we get a co-sponsor or will we be fine on our own? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. :)

  6. Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are hoping to send off our initial I-129F package tomorrow. We've compiled our package and double checked everything. However, we do have one issue - the address on my fiance's personal cheque reflects his PO Box address, not his home address. We've listed his home address on all our package paperwork - Will this be a problem?

    Thanks very much!

  7. Hi everyone,

My fiance and I are getting ready to submit our initial I-129F petition for a K1 Visa and I've run across a question that I'm just not sure how to answer. I've searched VJ, but can't seem to find an answer (apologies if it's been asked before).

I'm divorced, but while I was married, I used my my ex-husband's last name. I did not legally change my name, although I did have the married surname added as an observation in my passport.

The I-129F directions asks for proof of any previous name change. I assume I would handle this question as if I had legally changed my name, showing supporting evidence (copy of previous marriage certificate, copy of previous married last name observation in passport) accompanied by a letter of explantion - something to the effect that although I did not legally change my last name, I did use my ex-husband's surname while I was married to him.

Note, my divorce documents list me with my maiden name (no reference made to me using my ex-husband's last name), so no confusion there, I hope.

Am I going about adressing this issue correctly? Anyone else dealt with this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
