  1. Well, we didn't apply for a driver license, just an ID card. But it's not a high priority item on our list. We'll try again after she got her SNN.

I also went yesterday to get an ID for my wife. We lived here in Illinois, they required 2 forms of IDs and a SNN . We got her valid passport (1 form of IDs ) and her SNN. They refused us at first, but i told them, she just got here in the US. Those were the only 2 we got. then they made me filled out a form called "Certificate of Residence" which fulfilled their needs. Hope this help

  2. Hi,

Does anyone know of a cheap place to get documents notarized in HCMC? I heard the US consulate in HCMC will notarize for $50. A bank in the US does it for $5-$10. Will US banks in HCMC notarize documents?

    --jc

Justice Department ( So Tu Phap) in HCM will do it for around 200 nga`n (10 bucks) . Here is the address

141-143 Pasteur, phường 6, quận 3, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh

    Số điện thoại: 08.8290230

  3. Be Sure your unlocked phone is a tri-Band GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 or Quad-Band, GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900, then you have no problem use them in Vietnam. But if you have the tri-band phones which running on gsm 850,1800,1900, those phones will have a pretty low signal or no signal at all. Cellphones are from these provider will not work in Vietnam such as Verizon, Sprint and US cellular as they run on CDMA network.

  4. Thanks for the congrats. Packet 3 & 4 contain forms and instructions for what you must do. Read everything very carefully and you should not have a problem! Packet 4 does have your interview appointment letter in it. Check my signature above and you will see that we waited almost 3 months between P3 & P4.

You can find what exactly is in those packets on this site or the one from the consulate. It is good to look at them ahead of time to get an idea of what you must do.Also more time to prepare. I hope this helps you.

Let me just edit one more info. Once you submited Packet 3 to the Consulate. According to Scott's reminder, you might need to call Department of State to see if they have scheduled an appointment for you @ 202-663-1225 when the message starts.. press 1, when the next message starts, press 0.. you may wait 5 to 15 minutes for a CSR..

  5. HI there.

Where can I get my marriage certificate translates to English in the US?

    or anywhere in Saigon??

Price would be great if you includes.

I want to get my birth certificate translate too.

Justice Department (So Tu Phap) in HCM city

141-143 Pasteur, phường 6, quận 3, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh

I would go to this place and translate my documents rather than a local place. It's a government service, so your translation will be true and accurate, plus it also comes with a government stamp and officer's signature. Then you wouldn't have any problems submit them

  6. I was thrilled when my fiancee called me 3:00 am this morning and told me she just received a PINK slip. i couldn't express how happy i am after a seven months. We also like to express our gratitude to all VJers , thank you guys for helping us through

Re: Timeline of relationship with my fiancée, Vi Phuong Le (DOB: Month/day/year- Case number HCM XXXXXXXXXX)

I, Zachary Huy-Thong Vu, a citizen of the United States, am the fiancé of Vi Phuong Le. The following is a sworn affidavit documenting the timeline of our relationship from April of 2008 to the present.

About two and half years ago, probably around the end of March 2008, I’d called my aunt, Binh Vu and talked to her. She is one of my closest aunts with whom I contacted frequently to talk when I have problems. Then I asked her if she knew anyone that I could be friend with, a companion. I also told her that I wasn’t looking for a relationship yet, because I just got out of a six-year relationship. Her answer was yes, but requested me to call her back in a few days. After couple days passed, I called her again. She gave me a telephone number and her name is Vi. And that was how I knew Vi.

Beginning of April 2008, while driving home alone from a dinner buffet with my family, I remembered my aunt, Binh, had given me Vi’s cell phone number, so I’d contact Vi and we introduced ourselves. We talked for about half an hour, and I arrived home, then I said goodbye to her, and promised that I would call her in the near future.

On my way to work in the next morning, I couldn’t help myself, I had called her again. I asked her if she knew how to chat via Yahoo Messenger. I told her we could see each other via our webcams. She agreed but we could only chat on Sundays when she was not working.

April 05, 2008 was Vi’s birthday, I contacted my friend, Duong Nguyen who came back to Vietnam visiting his wife, to send ninety-nine roses and a teddy bear to Vi. Then Vi and I kept in touch with each other via phone calls as the telephone records showed.

By the end of the year, I was ready to make a big step that I told her I would come back to Vietnam and meet her in person. She happily agreed and I just couldn’t wait a moment longer.

On Dec 18th 2008, I traveled back to Vietnam. After an exhausting fly, I finally arrived to Ho Chi Minh City. I tried to leave the airport as fast as I was able to because I knew that Vi and my aunt, Binh were waiting patiently for me. During my first trip back visit Vi, we had travelled to Ham Tan, Binh Thuan to visit my aunt and uncle who lived there. We also went to the beach, sightseeing. We also went to Nha Trang along with my cousin Dung and his wife, Phuong, and did some shopping around Ben Thanh Market. We also spent time together on Christmas & New Year, we went to an outdoor restaurant, picked by Vi’s older brother, Cuong to celebrate Vi’s mother birthday on Jan 7th . Our precious time together had been cutting short because I had to return home in the States on Jan 8th 2009. Saying goodbye to Vi was the hardest thing for we’d unexpectedly developed a deeper connection beyond a platonic friendship. And I promised Vi that I would see her again very soon.

Back in the States, I missed Vi very much and wished I was still there in Vietnam. I called her and we talked on the phone for hours. I expressed my feelings to her and how I missed those days with her by my side. She also told me she felt the same way.

A few months passed by our feelings for each other grew stronger, and I couldn’t wait to see her again, this time I would stay a little longer as I told her. We continued talk with each other over telephone, Yahoo’s Video Messenger and Skype’s Video Messenger.

In August 2009, 2010, I’d made my second trip to Vietnam. My trip lasted for one month. I was there from Aug 24th to Sep 26th. I was thrilled and anxious to see Vi again after months being apart. However, I was still nervous and didn’t know what to say when I saw her. We went onto the taxi that took us to Hoang Gia Huy Hotel where I stayed for my second trip.

During my second trip visit Vi, we made plans that we will travel to Malaysia and Singapore for seven days using Saigon Tourist as our tour guide. While travel to Malaysia and Singapore we met Quang and Nga, a lovely young couple who were in our tour group. We have lot of funs together, we visited lots of attractions such as: the temple, museums, the Petroleum Twin Tower in Malaysia, and in Singapore we visited Botanical Garden, Sentosa Island, Musical Dorm and many more.

Unfortunately, my four weeks in Vietnam finally came to an end. It was time for me to come back to the States. I couldn’t even utter a word goodbye to Vi. I’d held her in my arms and told her how much I love her and again promised to be back with her.

After leaving Vietnam, I was sad, not wanting to do anything except talking to Vi on the phones. Our feelings for one another grew stronger with each passing day. I have told her that I love her very much and wished she would be my wife.

Around March 2010, I expressed my desires to marry Vi to my parents and they had called Vi’s mother to discuss our engagement. Then on Mar 18th , 2010 I took my third trip back to Vietnam, this trip was three weeks. We mostly stayed in Ho Chi Minh City, we also visited Ho Tram Osaka for 1 day and hang out with her brother, Cuong and his friend in Vung Tau. During my third trip here in Vietnam, we had obtained necessary documents so I could return to the States and file K1 Visa Application for Vi.

Back here in the States, I started gathering all my documents together and spent time at visajourney.com where people around the world lending supports and helping each other with their loves one still left behind overseas. Then I finally sent out our application on April 14th, 2010 .

Back in Vietnam, I had asked Vi’s mother to visit one of the town’s elders to pick out a perfect day for us to have our engagement party, according to the Vietnamese traditions. Within a few days, she’d personally called my parents and confirmed the day which would be November 21, 2010. Hence, this coming November, I, accompany by my parents, sister, and nephew, will travel to Vietnam for my engagement ceremony and party.

Meanwhile, Vi and I still remain in contact when we’re apart from each other. We also intend to marry and look forward to starting our lives together as husband and wife when she arrives here in the U.S.

  8. Many thanks for this. Most here will not help out others but are glad to come in here and soak up all we can give but not give us the courtesy of doing the same. They are leeches in life.

It seemed her questions were pretty normal run of the mill that just knowing someone well should be able to answer. I am glad they didn't try with any trick questions and anything really stupid. Was wondering if she can describe more of who did the interview such as male or female and nationality and so on. Again many congrats and God bless you both.

The officer is a white male and pretty handsome she said

  9. First, I would like to thanks all VJers for advices, steps by steps instructions how to made it through. Special thank to Scott for the questions. Although my fiancee did not received PINK but I know that we will receive PINK once submit those requested documents.

According to my fiancée, she interviewed at Window 13. when she got called in for the interview, the translator lady and the officer was treated her very professionally. They were pretty nice to her. Below are the questions being asked.

    1) What is your fiance's name?

    2) Where does your fiance live?

    3) How long has he being in the US?

    4) Who does your fiance live with?

    5) What kind of work did he do?

    6) Does your fiance have brothers and sisters?

    7) What are their names?

    8) What is his Mother's name?

    9) What does she do for work?

    10) What is his father's name?

    11) What does he do for work?

    12) When did you have Dinh Hon?

Those are the questions which she can remember, i will post more if she'll able to in the near future. To all later comer, be sure your wife or fiancee knows everything about you and your family. All of our questions being asked were related to my family. Good luck to you all.

  10. It sounds prommising, I remember many people here were very critical of you and were already saying you would get a denial and everything else.

If they are requesting those things as the other poster has said, it was probably because you did infact make a mistake, or did not send the correct copies. Get them what they want, they are not asking for other things, so from my point of view it looks good, just hurry and get them there ASAP, you can wait for the date, but I would get the things in as early as possible, and if you do, you might have a nice X-mas present comming by way of airplane!

    Good Luck

    Jerome and Binh

    Thanks Jerome,

I sent back those requested documents to my fiance . Hopefully we will get PINK

  11. We had almost the same situation. They requested documents from us that were different than yours. It sounds like you did not complete all the information on the forms! Remember that on DS-156 you must have 2 additional copies with photos. If you follow the instruction very carefully and turn in when they say, you may get pink! When my fiancee turned in what they asked for, she got pink, no questions.

Since you mentioned , we only submitted one copy of DS-156, and a copy of tax return, not the offical tax transcript from IRS. I have optainted that documents and sent back this morning. Hopefully they will not give us an another blue. Thanks

  12. Hi You guys,

My fiance just came back from an interview they requested her for additional documents which i already prepared

    1) Please submit a complete DS-156

    2) The Petitioner must submint a complete Form-134, signs and records for his income.

And asked my fiance to turn in those documents anytime at Window B between 13:00 - 14:00 during working days.

Can someone tell me is this a good sign or bad one?????????? Thanks

  13. If anyone is coming to Vietnam, let me know. I need a few small things from the US if possible. I need a large bottle of vanilla extract, along with a few other extracts (cherry, mint, grape.) If you are headed to HCMC let me know and I will pay you once you arrive, or I can even order and have them shipped to your US address prior to you leaving.

    Jerome

My family is going back to Vietnam for my wedding, total for 5 people but on Nov 17, let me know if i can help you out

  14. Hi.

On October 15, 2010, I/we just got our interview date scheduled for November 2, 2010. P3 was submitted July 5, 2010. There must have been an estimated 2 weeks mail deliverance delay because we now only have 16 days to prepare. It seems most interviews are scheduled 4-6 weeks from the notification issuance.

That's crazy. Same for me, i called my fiancee , she just received it yesterday, Oct 14. We also have a little more than 2 weeks to prepare. Wish you best of luck ........Wishing for PINK

  15. I'm hoping if someone could help me with this. I just called the DoS and they told me they have scheduled the interview for my fiancee on Nov 4th and letter sent out on Oct 8, but until now she have not received the letter yet. Can someone please tell me what is the average timeframe that you have the letter in hand before the interview? I'm just afraid we wouldn't have enough time to get the medicals done in time. By the way my wedding is on Nov 21 at New World hotel, VJers are welcome to join , please PM me so i can reserve the tables. Thanks in advance.

  16. Hi all,

First and foremost i would like to thank all of VJers in here. You guys did fantastic jobs to help new comer like me with ideas, documents and forms. Before i discovered Visajourney.com, i asked a service guy how much would he charge to fill out the paperwork? $1000.00 that he asked for. But well , guess i don't have to pay him that anymore 'cause of you guys. Thanks again.

Anyway back to my question is i met my fiancee about 2 years , i have been back 2 times visit her. I proposed to her on my 2nd trip. We didn't have a formal engagement ceramony 'cause my ma and pa weren't there. i just wanted to know that if i submit a K1 petition for my fiancee without a ceramony , does it create somekind of "flags" for the consulate in HCM? I knew that US consulate in vietnam is very tough. Or should i wait to file K1 unit we have a ceramony then file? We planning to have a ceramony in April 2010 . Please advice, Thanks guys
