In Many countries you need good security because locals will try their best to take advantage, and may beg you to death if you look too prosperous.

  5. Nevertheless, still that man could have been pouring anthrax out of a pouch. Any suspicious activity should be investigated though.

Mercury on the otherhand is in about 90% of our mouths, ingested in tuna fish, and people have been know to ingest mercury from broken thermometers and swallowed tooth fillings.

  6. mercury is relatively harmless. and can be touched. I think it would do more harm to the trains or electrical system than to people just walking and cracking it around the subway.

  7. I wanted to post this earlier, but apparently a kid did the following. (what not listed here is that the boy evaded police in a high-speed chase, he ditched the car blew its engine, and somehow ended up in an airport and was ready to board a plane)

9-year-old boy talks way onto flights

Items compiled from Tribune news services

    Published January 18, 2007

LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON -- A 9-year-old boy with a history of stealing cars and running away sneaked onto a plane bound for Texas, getting caught after flubbing an airport connection, officials said.

Semaj Booker apparently obtained a Southwest Airlines boarding card and made it through airport security Monday, hopping two flights but landing in San Antonio--short of his Dallas destination, police said. The 4th grader had been trying to get to his grandfather in Dallas, where he used to live.

Airline employees in San Antonio stopped Semaj from boarding another flight when he couldn't explain why he didn't have a boarding pass for that flight.

  8. Well, China Yuan has been gaining much strength since it was de-pegged to the US$.

Before the Yuan (Chinese Dollar) was at 8.12 to $1US today its 7.76 to the $1US

Hong Kong had largely been valued more than the Yuan, HKD is about 7.79 to $1US

Macau is only but slightly less than the HKD. Hencewise the Japan Yen has been loosing ground to the major currencies now at 122 JPY to $1US

China Yuan is about at neck with the GBP

I don't know if there are any capital investors here on VJ. but recently I sold off my interest in asia companies because too shaky and will now just focus on the currency in China. Even with double digit YOY growth in China economy, the scary part is what goes up fast usually (in Americas case) falls even faster.

  9. When minimum wages are increased suddenly in US cities, then jobs that were paying a bit over minimum wage are then at minimum wage... In HS my first job at a hospital was $6hr 13yrs ago. Newly hired workers are paid $7.25hr an if I continued to work there now I would be paid maybe $8hr. That place never really takes into consideration inflation.

There may and probably will be a reduction in joblessness but the scraping by businesses that hire part-time help (like mom&pop restuarants, and thrift stores) will really suffer.

Home Depot workers will benefit if slum bag CEOs not get quarter-billion dollar going away presents.

  10. A few more...

    1) same person employed at 4 different shops at local mall

    2) only one check-out lane at Aldi store (on check day)

    3) B&FYOB bring and fill your own bag grocery stores

    4) Comission only Best Buy workers

    5) volunteer substitute teachers

  11. thats true, this friend lives in a rather tuff urban area, and lives/works from home... I actually told her that you'd be better off not having the car and hire your own personal taxi; cuz at 2100/yr insurance and car note since new and only logged 20k in 5 years don't add up.

AAA has decent rates, and if over 60 AARP has better rates for older drivers.

  12. It is likely to pass, the US minimum wage will up 2 bux.

So what does that mean to a country that has two millionaires for every one minimum wage worker in America?

    Heres the The top 10:

    10) Well you'll see more 'start up dollar stores'

    9) college tuition will up by 20% next year

    8) $3.50 Big Macs

    7) only 1 CNA on any given floor at a nursing home

    6) More things with 'Made In China' at Target and Walmart

    5) More China made cars with 1.4 liter engines on the roads

    4) more than just Mexicans doing landscaping

    3) more old people doing teenager jobs (like washing cars)

    2) the paper boy delivering in a porsche

    1) The jobless rate will go way down, but the average work week will be less that 20 hrs.

  13. Well I am a believer in that this (these) wars are going to go on for another 19 years (after 9.11.01)

If anyone knows Nostradamus (that medieval propheteer) that some say predicts a war lasting 23 years and will be the war to end all wars for a millennium. Nevertheless its is believeble that fighting and peace keeping on all fronts will go on for time to come.

Funding the wars will be simple later on down the line, just seize and sell the resources of the land i.e. oil gold & diamonds.

  14. the areas I call in western Africa like the oil-rich Niger as in Nigeria, and ares along the Nile River in the east.

If the US can line up enough alies then the US will likely have ground troops in these areas. But with the low approval of the current engagements and Bush admin., I'm doubtful that the alies would back US.

Well lets see what Bush says tomorrow.
